  • John I can not believe you did not appear in the video where your band members got dress up to like the people from the 60's! You would look good as a a person from the 60's when your hair sick back and all.

  • I'm in 6th grade band and were gonna play this at our concert

  • E A D A = best chord progression ever :)

  • I remember these days well, listening to Cousin Brucy on WABC am radio. The times were simpler, 45's, Drive-In Movies, transistor radios.

  • haha i'm just 15, and im listening this kind of music every day! this music makes me happy every day!

  • @forrealhomeboy, couldn't agree more ! With the SB in America's heartland John is the deserving/logical choice. Madonna ????????????? Undeniably talented but come on. This song would blow the roof off the joint !!!!!!!!!!!

  • U gotta rock to his music

  • This gives me goose bumps when I listen to it. Mellencamp's a Champ!

  • Mr. Mellencamp performed the appropriate tune at the appropriate time. The 80's, to a certain extent, were supposed to be like the 60's, only without the unnecessary drama. Nice job, Mr. Mellencamp

  • I live in Indiana and I am pissed John didn't get picked to do the Super Bowl half time show in Indy. He deserves it more than anyone else.

  • @forrealhomeboy Mellancamp would be such a logical choice for SB halftime show. Let Sandi Patti sing the national anthem.

  • yeah

  • screw "Party in the U.S.A.", this is where it's at.

  • to the 50s to introduce this song

  • Dammit now I have to go find what dgate007 said..

  • you are real lucky john

  • Who's listenin' to John talk? He hit #2 in Billboard, 4-5-86. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • Some good ol' 3-chord goodness. I had the privilege of visiting Morgan Freeman's ground zero blues club a few years back. There was nothing like it: some dirty, rockin blues in an old juke joint in the south after a southern style, pulled pork sandwich and a beer.

  • This song kind of sounds like a mixture between "What I like about you" and "Back in the U.S.S.R"

  • long live R.O.C.K in the U.S.A!

  • Take me back oh take me back

  • I'm R.O.C.K. ing on the T.U.B.E.

  • I would give anything to be able to travel back in time and experience the 60's 70's and 80's.......I'm 26 and i love this music

  • @mugzsta1 hey man im 22 and i feel the same more power to you bro :D

  • @mugzsta1 I'm only 20 and I miss it too...

  • I am 15 and listening to this. timeless.

  • This song is a complete rip off of "What I like About You" By the Romantics. From the same Riff and Melody to the wind instrument solo.

  • @244megan How'd you do? I hope you did well! ROCK ON!

  • Just got back from his concert in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 2 hours ago. All I can say is WOW!

  • I grew up listening to John Mellencamp. He plays some of the best music ever. Rock on, Johnny!

  • Im from the 80's and not afraid to stand up to the goverment

  • Mr Strongarms,......I wish kids today had a reason to believe. In Something.I too, grew up during this time (born 1962) and I HATE the fact that Todays Generation X has nothing from the past to treasure, and guide them. They are all just adrift, in their own little worlds,......WE, had common interests, and musical direction. WE came together in a feild in NY state, and did not kill each other. You ROCK, Strongarm.

  • My dad was a fan of Frankie Valli in The 60's; Too bad Mr. Mellencamp didn't include him in this tune for it would have rocked.

  • My favorite song of JOHN COUGAR....Excellent song and video!!! 1985 What a year!!!

  • FUCK VEVO

  • I grew up in the 60's too but it burns me to hear these constant references to Iraq and Afghanistan comparing them to Vietnam. Just this week, new signs of progress in Iraq when they formed a coalition government rather than just going back into a civil war. Go Iraq. I plan on investing in Iraq since I want to make sure that nation succeeds because so many of my fellow military members lost their lives their.

  • This song rips off that 60s hit ''That's What I Like About You''

  • Billboard's #66 song of '86. John hit #2 pop, #6 rock, #36 AC, in Billboard. God bless, and, Merry Christmas!

  • Sorry to say all the VEVO advertisements before his awesome songs.....thank you you dick youtube and VEVO!!

  • Back when cigarettes were still cool.

  • Great song. The influence of 60's music is clearly heard throughout. Interesting though that the writer of the musical riff underpinning the song, Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry, is not acknowledged at all.

  • @clongownian1 You are right---that DOES sound like Cherry Cherry!! as do so many other tunes. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • The Romantics - What I Like About You (which is older),.. is kinda the same. And both have stupid lyrics if you'd ask me.

  • @CaptainVolrath

You're comparing those two songs lyrically, are you mad? This one speaks of a 60's musical collage and one that broke racial boundaries. In a time of a very segregated America, it gives people like me: born at the end of the 60's and later, something else to reflect about that time other than Vietnam. While the other song is little more than pubescent crooning....but great to dance to.

  • @CaptainVolrath , It's closer to the song, Cherry by Neil Diamond.

  • this is why i wish i'd grown up in the 60's

  • girl at 0:30 just made me jizz

  • @nstrikefromnerfhaven she looks very hot....

  • @stoneroses13 Yeah man, I wonder who she is...

  • cool video,great song

  • GREAT SONG 4EVER!!!!*****5+

  • @Urankar3 See you my guitar version for this great song!! THANKS!! :-)

  • Real music!

  • YEAAAA U>S>A!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE MY COUNTRY!!

  • "All you need is love" I am proud to have come of age in the 60's.

  • my favorite song of his...

  • Hallejuah Rock in the USA

  • great song

  • i love this song!! wish i grew up in the 60's

  • Happy birthday USA love ya

  • WOOOO HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!!!

  • for the next worldcup in Brazil 2014 this song should represent the U.S. team and soccer(futbol) games!!!!!!it's awesome ..!!!

  • John Mellencamp and R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A.: His tribute of radio and television merging into music videos. A hot time, in the USA from the 1950s to the 1980s. A good beat.

  • @dgate007 ........Such a hater.....and using the N word and all........you should be ashamed!!!

  • @dgate007 JUST A SWINGIN!!!

  • @dgate007 you know what a tool like you needs? Me and Jackie boy to give you a biker nightmare!!!

  • @dgate007 yeah, you're cool

  • @dgate007 wtf is wrong with u?

  • Hit #2 pop, #6 rock, #36 AC in Billboard. God bless!

  • keaster what kind of drugs are you still. Its still war and our heros are brought home in caskets as well as airlines seats. same place different time. Oh and I suppose drilling of the coast of Louisiana is a good thing too. John sings reality, your in a coma.

  • this video has 0 dislikes!!!!!!!!!!

  • wery good

  • this was in my dance recital when i was 4

  • "Keep on whispering in my ear. Tell me all the things that i wanna hear, cause it's true..."

  • John Mellancamp is pretty unique, he doesn't even appear in his own hit video. Thats what you call a man in control of his artistic ego.

  • @KMK7355 I had no idea he wasn't in this video. Takes me by surprise!

  • THIS. NAILS. IT.

When music was cool and talented.

Good picks, John... Bobby Fuller and Mitch Ryder were beyond awesome.

  • Great tune!!!

  • Good song....

  • what a great song

  • John was definitely rockin' with this 1. Hit #2 in Billboard.

  • I grew up in the 60's also and feel lucky like him to hear that great music. It was the best of times and the worst of times, with all the assasinations. The younger generation in the 60's changed our world, got the government to stop the war. I just wish the kids today had the guts to stand up to the government like we did.

We won, we got out of Vietnam, and it didn't hurt our nation, as they think today. So let's get out of Iraq (a stupid war, like Vietnam) and Afghanistan..

  • @keaster55 Absolutely. I have exactly the same experience as Mellancamp. FM wasn't a factor and the 60s baffled radio programmers. So you got The Beatles, The Four Tops, Frank Sinatra and Johnny Cash all on the same station. Today, it's too segregated.

  • @gmartinz01 Way too segregated, no variety.

  • @keaster55 You think YOU hippies ended Vietnam? C'mon

  • @jdd323 We were a large part of it. In 1970, after the Kent State shootings, 100,000 protesters surrounded the White House & other Memorials. Nixon went out to speak to them. After that, napalm was banned, the Gulf of Tonkin Act was repealed, & Nixon began withdrawing troops. Nixon reacted to the anti-war sentiment. By then 60% of our troops were on drugs. Yes, he kept on taking more troops out of Nam. So we did have something to do with it! Just googled it!

  • @jdd323 The people ended Vietnam, but the Hippies started the revolution.

  • @keaster55 right on!!!! i feel sorry for the kids these days

  • @windymeadows2 My grand nieces and nephew came over yesterday. Played some of their favorite songs. They all sounded the same. The twins were raised on 80's music and love Bon Jovi. At least I can relate to that. I liked music from the 60's to the mid 2000's. A lot of diverse music on my channel. Feel free to subscribe!

  • @keaster55 I disagree with you about the hippies ending Vietnam, but I agree with you about the music and stupid wars.

  • @jdd323 That's OK. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I thought I had commented to you saying this, but it's not showing up. Then tomorrow it will be there 2 times. Frustrating YouTube!

  • @keaster55 Actually what got hurt in vietnam is the allies we left behind they were tortured and murdered. And we just watched it happen even though the peace accord signed stated if it happened we would help them out. So thanks for that

  • @keaster55 rito barchat

  • @keaster55 I don't want to start a fight by you're wrong about the war.

  • @BestMattBeast i'll agree with you on not starting the fight.......so since were not fighting let's end the war.

  • @keaster55 er there literally are terrorists all in Afghan But they should pull out of Iraq

  • @ASTER11345 Quite right we have gotten rid of Saddam but on the other hand terrorism is rampant, the Christian community is in the process of being driven from their homes where they had lived as Christians while most of us were still pagans, it has garnerned even more resentment against America and caused Saudi Arabia to order all US and allied troops out of the country, one of Osama Bin Laden's primary aims, and above all else is costing America blood and treasure and at what gain?

  • @keaster55 I don't think we're pulling out until its over once and for all. People in the military don't want another 9/11 to happen so we're keeping the fight over there to make it harder for them to come over here

  • @tdubsthirdwheel You got to admit that while we had to go into Afghanistan the rationale for invading Iraq was a lie, the only basis was Saddam's numerous violations of the armistice but the government knew that would not have enough public support If we had felt Saddam has to go we should have done it during Desert Storm, the charges that Saddam had WMD and was in collusion with Al Qaeda were obviously false to any informed thinking person as the facts bore out I support our troops 100%

  • @keaster55 Im sorry but you didn't "win". You bitched and moaned about a lot of things and created a nation based off of social programs. The government was able to get rid of groups like the Black Panthers which while radical in nature educated and help African Americans gain work instead of sitting at home collecting a welfare check. The US didn't leave Vietnam until 75 and soon after Vietnam fell long after big companies had made their money in Vietnam.

  • @CMsurvive11 YOUUUUUUUUUUUU don't know what the hell you're talking about so SHUT-UP!!!

  • @PopCulture20 um yea i do, if you actually took a decent college history course on the 60 & 70's, urban renewal its effects good & bad, or black history itself you'd see the damage

  • @keaster55 Urban Renewal destroyed rust belt citys while you kept pumping money into programs to support inner cities that had no chance to survive. Today my generation is trying to figure out how to fix the problems the 60's and 70's created, how to get rid of social security and still support a nation, how to fix decaying city's all over the US, and how to educate a nation which has taken second to China. Yes you really "won"

  • @keaster55 I totally agree. Even if we lost the war in Iraq, so be it. Winning doesn't always have to mean killing the whole damn country. That seems to be what we're doing in the Middle East. I grew up listening to John Mellencamp. He played some of the best music I've ever heard.

  • @keaster55 Yeah, I notice all the war protest are a bunch of geriatrics. Nothing more pathetic than an aging hippie trying to relive their youth.

BTW - what happened to all the anti-war protest? I haven't seen any since 2009. Are we pretending we aren't still at war, with a new one added to the list (Libya), since Obama was elected? You hippies are slacking. It's as if you are all politics and no principles.

  • @ramrants We'll be out of Iraq by the end of year, and we're drawing down in Afghanistan. Yes, people should still protest the pointless imperial wars bankrupting America, but giving the resurgence of dipshit Republicans in the form of the Tea Party it's important not to give them ammo.

  • @keaster55 Thumbs up Sweetie and down to the ignorant ones! xo

  • @derailedpoet BTW, for some reason I cannot post to this person, so here ya go. xo >>>>@ramrants You are SO wrong, you might check worldwide hippies DOT com
