I swimm and because of that i respect them all, they're monsters. but i engaged in a rather blind faith in biedermann without considering the evidence. when we analyse the times with or wo suit, it's clear that wo he is around 1:46. I sense you suggest that he wasnt rested for Berlin and Budapest, am i right?
@sirdelrio Yes that is what I was trying to get at. But I will say this about the suits, they dont help you as much physically as they do mentally. My guess it that the suit gave biedermann confidence to take now the so called mighty phelps. I would know this from experienced swimming with and with out the suit.
Seems kinda odd that he suddenly shaved four seconds in less than a year and was not in the discussion to win anything, yet won two races. Also odd that he placed fifth in the 200 Free, after the fancy suits were banned. And although he won fair and square, there is no doubt that these suits helped significantly, hence the huge amounts of world records broken at the 2009 WC. If they didn't help, swimmers wouldn't be admitting to "more than two seconds" of improvement.

@sirdelrio The records broken in the LZR were over a much longer period of time, and were not as drastic, considering that suits were slowly developing until the full polyurethane suits. and you have to consider how long the LZR was around for. And if you remember, Jaked also made the suit. For BIedermann to shave four seconds off of his personal best and a HUGE 8 tenths from the WR in a matter of months, is absolutely impossible, especially since he has come nowhere close to that time since.

@sirdelrio That was a short course event., where times are faster because the pools are shorter. The world record in that is 1:39, so for him to swim a 1:42 in qualifications is not very good. That right there proves that the suit helped Paul considerably. You forget that in swimming, three seconds is an absolutely massive amount of time. And he has come nowhere near his 200m freestyle, long course record, since the suits were banned.

They all had the top tech suits of that time on. They all had the same advantage. They guy over in lane 8 could have won, and it wouldn't have been because of the suit. Phelps is human, he's beatable. Anyone could have won that race, it's up to who swims the best.

phelps and biedermann are great, but u forget the 3rd place with 17 yrs old , izotov, hee have exactly the same times as thorpe in the same age, and thorpe retired with the wr,and i think izotov will not retire as young as thorpe but only time would say it to us
@Alainjorge1 you can use the new Speedo lzr racer Elite. phelps, coughlin and so many swimmers from the USA team are using it. i got it too . it,s a good suit, better than the 2007 fast skin suits (those no plastic products suits) but it is only till the knees. 160 dolars.
everybody is complaining about the difference in swimsuits, but at the Olympics. Phelps wore a LZR and Biederman reached the final with an 'old-fashioned' Nike legger, than nobody was complaining about it.

Level playing field? Suit wise, I don't think it would matter. Biedermann beat him. Regardless, suits are all what you like better. Phelps said in an interview that he liked the LZR best because of it's compression.
I'm an American too, but ChenChen713 needs to shut the hell up and learn to be a humble loser. Biedermann had a fantastic swim, and Phelps did too, but Biedermann came on top. It's sports.

...if you notice at the race the underwater by phelps is the about the same as paul's...He usu pulls AHEAD in the underwater..here phelps is about dead even. Notice the last turn, it seems shorter then when he first broke the 200m Free in '07....to say that it was entirly the suit would be a lie b/c paul had a very good swim...and phelps said he was still "out of shape"

He beat Milorad Cavic when Phelps was wearing an inferior suit, and set an unprecedented world record. Like a lane coach said when he saw Cavic staring down Phelps at the Olympics, "Don't poke the tiger with the stick."

Phelps explains everything in an intervieu, so cup that crap your saying about him. He explains that, after bejing, he stoped training for 6 months ! And the suit, who also helped the german a bit. Michael will come back in 2012 and proove to everyone he's the best
the suit alone didn't make Biedermann win, but it helped a hell of a lot. those suits really do make a big difference, especially in these longer races

Considering FINA banned full-body polyurethane suits I wouldn't say its too crazy to say he won because of the suit. The extra buoyancy the suit provides does make a very big difference.
But let the Germans have their winner, everyone knows they need it.

I got the 2 suits so i know it.. it,s not a stupid discussion...in 100 free style i got 52:77 with the Arena suit and 53:58 with the lzr racer..biderman 1:42:00 in 2009, biderman 1:48:09 in 2007..but you got the reason in one thing: in this race phelps had not a great performance so biderman would have won with the same suit of phelps. another thing: biderman in 2010 got only 1:45:7 without the suit of last year

Phelps got beat. He would've lost anyway. Almost every member of team USA used the same suit to break world records and swim personal best. However, when Phelps loses they want to blame it on the suit. Phelps, Bowman, Rowdy Gaines, and Dan Hicks should all stop making excuses.
Maybe the suit helped him, Michael Phelps is still a fantastic swimmer wearing the most effective suit or not. I think its the suit, cause scientifically it has more rubber, and with that it has more buoyancy. But it doesn't matter, Michael Phelps is still a better swimmer, even if he lost one race, its not a complete tragedy

lol biedermann hat nur gewonnen weil er den speziellen anzug aus der raumfahrt anhatte, un phelps nich. mit dem anzug is man schneller als mit den anderen darum is der auch ab nächstes jahr verboten. da bin ich nich stolz drauf wenn er phelps nich durch muskelkraft un fair, sondern mit son tricks wie den anzug geschlagen hat, auch wenn der noch erlaubt is. gehört sich nich sowas sonst wär der nich ma unter der ersten 3 gekommen -.-

most of these guys are doped, like in every other comparable sports - i believe it is even more doped then in the tour de frace, cause the tests there are 10 times harder and more often then @ swimming.

...if you notice at the race the underwater by phelps is the about the same as paul's...He usu pulls AHEAD in the underwater..here phelps is about dead even. Notice the last turn, it seems shorter then when he first broke the 200m Free in '07....to say that it was entirly the suit would be a lie b/c paul had a very good swim...and phelps said he was still "out of shape"

Beidermann got six seconds faster in one year. By the way, remember what happened in Phelpes last race. He beat Milorad Cavic when Phelps was wearing an inferior suit, and set an unprecedented world record. Like a lane coach said when he saw Cavic staring down Phelps at the Olympics, "Don't poke the tiger with the stick."

Phelps took the silver graciously, but coach Bob Bowman, threatened to withdraw Phelps from international competition because Bowman claimed Biedermann had an unfair advantage because he was wearing a full polyurethane swim suit, specifically an Arena X-Glide. Bowman said, "It took me five years to get Michael from 1:46 to 1:42 and this guy has done it in 11 months. That's an amazing training performance. I'd like to know how to do that."

Considering FINA banned full-body polyurethane suits I wouldn't say its too crazy to say he won because of the suit. The extra buoyancy the suit provides does make a very big difference.
But let the Germans have their winner, everyone knows they need it.

@RogerF99 the Arena fast skin suit 2009 is faster than the Speedo LZR racer 2008 . I got the 2 suits so i know it.. it,s not a stupid discussion...in 100 free style i got 52:77 with the Arena suit and 53:58 with the lzr racer..biderman 1:42:00 in 2009, biderman 1:48:09 in 2007..but you got the reason in one thing: in this race phelps had not a great performance so biderman would have won with the same suit of phelps. another thing: biderman in 2010 got only 1:45:7 without the suit of last year

It's easier for ignoramuses to focus on non-swimming aspects and reduce the result of a race to wearing or not wearing a suit. i would love to see those who say the suit makes it all, wear it, and try to beat a world record. not even a great swimmer, just by wearing a magic suit, is going to shatter a world record if he is not in world record pace witout it.

Phelps got beat. He would've lost anyway. Almost every member of team USA used the same suit to break world records and swim personal best. However, when Phelps loses they want to blame it on the suit. Phelps, Bowman, Rowdy Gaines, and Dan Hicks should all stop making excuses.

Maybe the suit helped him, Michael Phelps is still a fantastic swimmer wearing the most effective suit or not. I think its the suit, cause scientifically it has more rubber, and with that it has more buoyancy. But it doesn't matter, Michael Phelps is still a better swimmer, even if he lost one race, its not a complete tragedy

denk du bitte auch erstmal nach, phelps hatte bei olympia den mit abstand besten anzug, ohne diesen hätte er deiner logik nach nicht eine goldmedaille gewonnen. und so eine vernichtung über 200m (über eine sekunde vorsprung) ist nicht alleine durch einen anzug zu erklären, zumal biedermann diese leistung ja bestätigt hat in der staffel, als er phelps ein weiteres mal hat stehen lassen. biedermann ist der freistil-könig bei dieser wm, auch wenn phelps das nicht wahrhaben möchte.

lol biedermann hat nur gewonnen weil er den speziellen anzug aus der raumfahrt anhatte, un phelps nich. mit dem anzug is man schneller als mit den anderen darum is der auch ab nächstes jahr verboten. da bin ich nich stolz drauf wenn er phelps nich durch muskelkraft un fair, sondern mit son tricks wie den anzug geschlagen hat, auch wenn der noch erlaubt is. gehört sich nich sowas sonst wär der nich ma unter der ersten 3 gekommen -.-

most of these guys are doped, like in every other comparable sports - i believe it is even more doped then in the tour de frace, cause the tests there are 10 times harder and more often then @ swimming.
still: the best swimmer mostly wins and this was a great performance.

Es ist absolut lächerlich das auf den Schwimmanzug zu schieben und Phelps als als besten Schwimmer aller Zeiten hinzustellen. ;-)
Der SV Halle ist schon seit Jahrzenten eine feste Größe im deutschen Schwimmsport und hat immer wieder Spitzensportler hervorgebracht und Biedermann ist keineswegs nur ein Durchschnittsschwimmer wie die Washington Post schön arrogant schreibt.
