It's not all that great! When will protools work with 7! Had a pain installing drivers on my old ass computer! Got 7 to work! Then installed protools! No Good! WTF!
Sorry MS, but there's still no improvement over XP Pro x64 Edition. Vista wasn't, W7 isn't either. Fancy graphics can also be installed in XP x64, so why bother?
Why havent' Microsoft ever been sued by users? Could you imagine if Ford released a car, then you went to drive it and it didn't start - because it needed an update, then it worked for a bit and the engine fell out, you fix that, then it only does 20mph top speed, a year later and they recall it and update it and it finally works okay for a week, then it starts drinking fuel and the engine falls out again... Man, they would be shut down by the courts!!
Still no multiple desktops then? That was the one thing I loved about ubuntu was the multiple desktops - extremely useful :) So far, I don't really see anything that useful - I mean a cut down media player? Who uses that shit anyway? New themes - wow! Virtual pc, what a joke, why not just do a dual boot? Or better still, don't install vista or W7. So, in conclusion - what a waste of money! Oh and another thing - touch sensitive screen - it'll just make ur screen greasy :)
u may not see nything but all previous windows were biult on NT kernel but windows 7 has new coding and on testing it has been found that even though it does not have many new features it is faster and more reliable than mac os X and ubuntu etc....all review support this fact...its basically what vista should have been...they have concentrated more on speed and usability rather than features
Sadly, Windows 7 should be a service pack for Vista because all it is, is Vista with bug fixes and optimizations. That's it.
It should DEFINITELY come free to anyone who bought Vista. If not, I am fairly sure that it violates the ruling of the monopoly lawsuit in several ways...
Same shit, different package. Vista Version 2.0, with new whistles and bells. Let me know when Microsoft designs a REAL operating system (or at least something better than WIndows XP).
I'm currently running Windows 7 RC too and I'm very disappointed that they took out the option to switch back to the "Classic Start menu".
I've always hated the "Fisher Price" look of the current style Start menu. With XP and Vista we at least had a choice, but (as far as I can tell) we no longer have that option in Windows 7.
Am I missing something or are we in fact stuck with the "Fisher Price" look with Windows 7?
Getting rid of the classic start menu isn't so bad, but the problem is the lack of user-friendlyness of what they tried to replace it with. It's actually moving backwards, not forwards! This shit takes forever to navigate and is impossible to navigate with the keyboard consistently -- I love how Microsoft gets a bunch of 5 year olds to design their start menu, nobody stops to question the design and they just go ahead and do it.
Vista SP1 is actually a very good system. The only reason people still complain is because they hear bad news about it still, but that's coming from people who don't know.
I just installed Windows 7 a few hours ago. I'm evaluating it in person right now.
So far the enhancements seem minimal. Vista was no quantum leap ahead, and it looks like W7 is nothing more than vista done right. MS should have released this entire OS for free as a service pack for vista.
BTW, I was a vista beta tester, and I used it for almost 2 years before switching back to XP.. and I was hardly alone. Most people would have done the same if MS had given them the option, rather than using VLK to ram it down our throats.
Wrong, Vista is the slowest OS ever (why it won't run in netbooks), still has the registry around to get corrupted and clogged, still has the annoying authentication routines, UAC, etc, etc, etc, I run Vista daily on several machines and there is no way it is "very good". 7 fixes the major problem, which is performance, and adds some nice user interface touches. Plenty of us who know what we are talking about QUITE WELL hate Vista.
I used vista daily for months before I installed windows 7, and quite honestly, I didnt notice that much of a difference in performance. Also, startup and shutdown times for windows vista were actually FASTER than 7. If you know how to keep proper upkeep on a computer, you will have no problems with vista.
I ran a computer support area for a Fortune 500 company for many years, since before Windows existed, and have used Windows from day one. I know how to "keep proper upkeep" on a computer. There are plenty of OS benchmarks online, educate yourself. I installed Vista on FOUR "Vista-capable" machines when it was released, and had to drop back to XP on two of them for performance reasons, and no amount of performance tuning helped.

Basically a bunch of cosmetic changes to Vista, which is probably the worst mainstream OS of all time. Well Microsoft, thanks for all the memories..

Good system? It's a terrible system, slow, unresponcive and annoying.
Go download the Windows 7 beta and see how it compares. You will instantly see how bad vista is in comparison.

Wrong! A good percentage of benchmark tools are gear toward certain video cards! they will give you false readings!
Also, Windows 7 is way over rated!
Also, running Vista SP1 will perform just as well as Windows 7!
Fact, Windows 7 will not run a good percentage of the games on the market without fixes/trouble-shooting!
