This song was used in an episode of the old Hunter TV show. It's the first time I can remember hearing a "real-world" song used as music on a TV show. It's quite a popular practice these days. Hell, even entire show themes are recycled pre-existing songs, and mostly taken out of context as a result. (Yes, I'm looking at you, CSI).
@11twsister Yeah, I suppose you're right. They had that one song "Aqua lung" i think? it's pretty good. They just aren't my cup o tea. Give me your honest opinion. If you were in a club, would you wanna hear a band cover this song?
@11twsister Thanks. We'll do a good job on anything we play or we won't do it. We're as bout a serious cover band as you'll find. Not bragging, it's just a descent outfit. Thanks for your input friend :)
@shaindaman13 Other song(s) of note: Bungle In The Jungle and maybe Cross-Eyed Mary if you lived through the time and listened to albums and not just top 100 radio. Plus, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi played for them for a bit in 1968! That's like being kissed by rock royalty! :)
@pdmfisken that's actually sad that you focus on the people who disliked this video. I'd say, 13 people have a different taste of music. Maybe they are just used to pop. If you had mentioned something about the incredible Flute Solo, that would've been okay. But justin bieber? Shame on you, sir!
I saw this cover fireman band do this yesterday. They were spot on, flute and everything. it was wicked and the last song i heard before i blacked out.
Props to the creator of this video, because i"m a railway buff myself, but the song has nothing to do with trains, that said it's an all time classic!
@TutterTheOne Where is the problem? "Deutsche Reichsbahn" was the name of the railway undertaking of the German Democratic Republic. Reichsbahn-Oberrat Eckart Keller.
@TutterTheOne Where is the problem? "Deutsche Reichsbahn" was the name of the railway undertaking of the German Democratic Republic. Reichsbahn-Oberrat Eckart Keller.
@homelesshannah50 I saw a Jethro Tull cover band at a bar once and thought the exact same thing. Never saw a guy sweat so much in my life though. Singing and fluting has to leave you breathless lol
The analogy between train wrecks and addiction is a little younger than locomotives themselves. Bet you don't even know what a Johnson bar is, eh? Hint: it normally protrudes at the same angle as the penis. One step at a time. We came to admit we were powerless over our addiction (2) and that only a higher power could restore us to sanity. He sees the angels jumping off at the stations one by one, his woman and his best friend, in bed and having fun. What drove Casey Jones do what he did?
@hankbat5149 biology aside, free will? I got sumthin to say...its better to ....no that's not it. Take no thought in sorrow that my life would end, only that it had no begining. Peace.
@hankbat5149 Actually, the song is about man in general and how you must continue in life. To quote Ian Anderson " It's an analogy of the unending train journey of life; you can't stop, you've got to stagger on." But, whatever
Im 16 bassist in a rock band with a drummer and guitarist who tribute old rock like this, i have put so many hours into learning the piano part just so we play it right. Its so worth it
@apocalypsepirate I think the video is very good anyway. The song is so driving it really wouldn't have the impact with photos of people. @skywalk553 Unfortunately, there is less a need for true musicians with true talent. after listening to both versions i have to say i like w.a.s.p.'s version better. but tull's version's still better than everything that's playin today
I remember a radio interview with Ian Anderson where he explained how he came up with the flute. He was in a music instrument store looking for something to play, anything really, and he was about to go with a violin, but then he spotted a flute and went with that instead. I'm glad he chose that. What would it have been like with a violin?
This is one amazing song!! Always loved this one!! Jethro Tull sure put out some great songs!! Takes me back to great days!! This song takes me back to days of true happiness and innocence. I miss those days. My heart just aches for those days. What a time that was! Never to be forgotten! There was a magic in the air back then that you just cant feel today and that is a real shame. This song is pure magic in itself!! Missing those days but hold the memories in my heart forever!! ☺♥
what irony i got to know jethro threw rolling stones... weird that in the stones video had an ultra hot blonde wich he let getting fucked by soneone else to fuck a man and hethro sings that song thats so weird

One of the premier concerts back in the 70s. Ian Anderson was an animal live onstage, leaping from the amplifier towers, never missing a beat! The Pied Piper of Rock n Roll! Oh, fond memories of the Spectrum in Philly! : )
This is my all time favourite song by my all time favourite group - and this is a really great version, thanks! I do like the selection of largely German Locomotives too, a nice touch!
