I have to agree with the other posters here, if that had thrown a rod, it could have showered the spectators with red hot debris moving at very high speed. I've seen engines blow up and it really is like a grenade, and there really is no way of knowing which way the parts will go. Just standing perpendicular to the axis of rotation is no guarantee you won't get hit by flying shards of hot metal. Really stupid.

For those of you that see no point in this... Most of these are money makers for local charities or outreach programs... a ticket with a time on it cost a dollar... you draw your time tickets out of a hat... they are numbered every 1 second..I have seen some of these motors go for 8-10 minutes before giving up. most last about 5-6 minutes .... the engine is usually donated from a local salvage yard out of a good running but damaged vehicle.. winner get $100. and the rest goes to the charity.

That's just wrong. Not wrong for an import but wrong for a good ol V8. Ther's nothing wrong with a crate motor.. My 65 Chevy truck has a GM Goodwrench 350 motor in it that runs great.
