I saw them in Atlanta a month ago, and they totally ROCKED! I have met them several times and Mark is cool, only he can't sing. Now that Delain has surpassed them, Mark is planning a new direction for Epica. He didn't say what that was, but he likes Delain and their style. Delain got a real male vocalist Marco Hietala. And the 'chicks' are a lot harder than you think - I bet they can keep the blokes in order (although the blokes in Epica are not typical Metallic Hard Men I think! - they've got soft centres - oh dear -I'll get clobbered for saying that!)

Probably the most Arabic influenced of all their pieces, with use of 'Maqan' and major locrian scales. However the (very) brutal growling is most certainly not Arabic. Infact they're more likely to interpret it as a malevolent Gin invading the set! Mark's obviously been on the 'Hot Chocolate' again (well its hardly substance abuse!!). Simone will get offered a contract as a 'muezzin' if she keeps singing like this! i am less impressed with this 'Eastern' wing of Epica's style.

I like the way Epica chop and change styles. As long as they dont get stuck in any one rut and end up repeating themselves like so many bands. Its what marks them out from other Metal bands.
