  • Newsflash, Aug.8, 2011:

Remaining dates for 45th Anniv. tour cancelled.

Issued statement reads due to "..irreconciliable differences...We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support of The Monkees."

  • I remember watching this clip.

I love this clip very much! (:

  • Wasn't a different song over this little number in the original episode?

  • Davy Jones co-wrote this song with Bill Chadwick- who released his own version of the song in late1969. That version was produced by Michael Nesmith, who was producing tracks for Dot Records at the time. Speaking of Mike, I read somewhere that he was on a bad trip when they shot the hula-skirt part. I wonder if that was around the time he wrote "Daily Nightly". ;-)

  • Never seen the "syndicated" versions with some of their more obscure songs used instead of their bigger hits... Who was the "Wizard Glick" that chose the tunes, lol?

  • Lmao I love this!

  • thanks 4 posting this

  • Thanks for posting this; it's the better version of the song. The released version has a silly synthesizer solo in it.

  • Poor Mike in the Hula part but its just so funny!

  • Davy's song & dance (vaudville) background shows up in this clip. He's the only one who seems comfortable doing the softshoe shuffle.

  • this is not the video i was looking for at all

  • This video is just weird!! In the good way!=]

  • Mike looks like he is in pain during this video! HA!

  • wow...and i thought i'd seen all the stuff the monkees have done...hmm...but i have seen them in concert 6 times..:)

  • Definitely not the best version of this song

  • Nez min 2:06 to 2:17 hahaha...I'd do the same thing.

  • I remember this song and the footage! Too funny!

  • I thought Tork was gone by '69

  • The songs were dropped onto the "romps" in the 1969 saturday reruns so Yes,by the first if 69 Peter had left the unit and so you're watching early 67 monkees and listening to a 69 song over it...Peter probably wouldnt have liked this song much I doubt if you know his tastes and influences heheh

  • he(peter tork) was gone in 1969, they dubbed over the original footage with newer songs to keep the program fresh and able to promote their latest music even though the show was canceled in March of '68 and the Monkees trio were promoting themselves on various other TV Talk or music shows as guests

The original song here was "I'll be back up on my feet". Find the whole series on Vhs or DVD it's worth it.

  • The song doesn't really mix well with the video

  • Sure sounds like a Nilsson song.

  • i am 13 and loved them for years! ive just decided to look them up on here and wowowow! they are fitter then the pictures of them on my recoreds!!

  • So who wrote this? Sounds a bit like Nillson but I could say Billy Preston. Never heard this before. Interesting.

  • I believe it was written by Bill Chadwick (a friend of Nesmith's) and Davy Jones. I do question Davy's writing credits at times, but Bill Chadwick did release this song as a Nesmith produced single and it's not a bad version in it's own right. Chadwick wrote several other songs for the Monkees as well. Zor and Zam, Time and Time Again, as well as "Talking To the Wall" for Nesmith's 4th solo album.

  • @Antifrodis Oh, you said the same thing that I did. I know that "Talking To The Wall" was the B-side of that 1969 single, and was also produced by Mike. I haven't heard the single, but I'd like to. I like both Monkees versions of this. What a versatile song!

  • @Antifrodis "Take a chance on me". The first two lines are identical as well as the bass and chords throughought. Bet you all didn't know that?

  • haha wow

  • They look super cute in those Hawaiian shirts!

  • woot! Sang right along! Big Monkees fan. Thanks for posting. :D

  • If you have the time...check out my Daydream Believer (tribute) video

  • When the Monkees TV Show ran on Saturday Mornings from 1969-71, the producers added new songs to the musical romps. "If You Have The Time" is from their 1969 LP "Changes."

  • This particular version of "If You Have The Time" used in the CBS repeat of "Dance, Monkee, Dance" was alternate to that which was used on 1987's Missing Links, as it featured no Moog synthesizer mix. 8-B

  • Wow..you are bigger fan than I am! Great! Can you answer a question I have always had about "Zor and Zam? Why was it included on the first "Monkees Greatest Hits" Package? (Colgems COS-115)

  • That's great - the tuxedo dancing scenes are an homage to "Your Mother Should Know" from the "Magical Mystery Tour" video

  • Actually the tuxedo scenes here were shot in 1966, a year before Magical Mystery Tour. This was a 1969 rerun of an episode from 1966. Definite similarities. Maybe the Fab Four saw this and borrowed from the Monkees!

  • The Bill Chadwick tune "If You Have The Time" was originally considered for use in The Monkees' 1968 feature film HEAD.

  • The monkees hardly got credited for being great songwriters as it was/is. Please don't leave David off of this for being co-writer. Actually, it's common knowledge that Dave came up with the concepts/arrangements. Then, Chadwick added additions later on.

  • Oops! You're right; sorry about that! |-P

  • The Monkees are practically my favorite people ever just for their TV show. Like they're music more than some, but what I really love is that they're so rediculous.

  • Wow, is this song originalley what they used? Now a days in this episode, this part always plays ''I'll be back upon my feet'' in the backround.

  • This is the song they used when the show was rerun in the late 60's/early 70's. It was their practice (when the Monkees were STILL a group) to replace the old songs with new ones when episodes were rerun to help sell the Monkees' latest albums. Oddly enough, songs like this one were never released until many years later.

  • Really?? Oh wow well that does explain alot. Hey thanks for the cool info! :D

  • @ardalsgirl no the song "ill be back upon my feet" is the original track. This song was there durring the saturday morning syndication, newer songs were placed over certain episodes footage to promote the latest single the monkees had out this one is likely 1969 after peter tork left the band. The series ended in march 1968

  • @moxie96 Oh yeah I heard that somewhere too cool thanks :)

  • I've just been digging though your videos and I've been surprised by the number of rerun alternates. I'm a second-gen fan -- I inherited my sister's albums when she "grew out of them" and the show was in mid-day reruns all my preschool years, so I used to know the eps backwards and forwards. These are just mindblowing! Is there any record of these alternates, do you know how many there were?

Oh -- and my seven-year-old is a massive Monkees fan too. :D

  • I Have The alternate version

  • Great Video

  • Yeah that is the rare version but this is synched up from some shitty bootleg recording. Now lets see the Apples Peaches Bananas and pears vid.

  • The bootleg recording you're referring to is actually a recording of this episode (audio only). You are correct in that it is synched to the video.

  • I completely forgot about this song; I feel like such a fossil, LOL:-) Loved these guys!!! Thanks for sharing:-0

  • Haven't seen those scenes in a long time - not since my Nickelodeon days. LOL

I never heard that song before. Not bad.

  • I don't know which is worse....Knowing this song, or knowing on sight that it was replaced by "Back On My Feet" in subsequent episodes.

  • Thank you. I couldn't think of what I was used to hearing there.

  • This song was the replacement. I'll be back on my feet was the original song placed. And, I don't understand your comment. Are you a fan of this group, or not?

  • i just love this song and this is my frist time hearing this song think you.

  • jajaja estos locos siempre me hicieron reir, gracias por este video

  • This video always puts a smile on my face. Especially when they're dancing around the hat and Mike just gives up and starts doing jumping-jacks.

Glad to see there are more young Monkees fans around, I'm 22 ;D

  • I'm 19. I have mad mad love for The Monkees

  • @LandofBrokenHearts I am in love with the Monkees also your probaly about 21 years old now but I fell in love with them just about a month and I'm only 13 and I'm in love with them

  • @retroalex1 I'm 14 and I'm a mahoosive fan. YAAAAY!

  • @MillsandDonovan haha!

  • So am I. :) I am 21 and I am one of the biggest fans of The Monkees around. :) I absolutley love them. :D

  • is this a missing link

    or the monkees present

  • A version of this song was available on the "Missing Links" album. This particular version isn't available commercially anywhere. It is missing the synthesizer found on the "ML" version, and has the piano part boosted up. This version is longer than the "ML" version due to a repeated section.

  • also they have Davy singing "Love , Love Love" but on the ML version they have a studio vocalist doing the backing vocal.

  • This is great, thanks for posting it!

  • I love the monkees wow!

  • Hmm. I like this song. Guess I'll have to come here whenever I want to hear it. Not that that's a bad thing!

  • Antifrodis - Great rarity! I have a bunch of episodes on VHS that I taped in '86 when they were aired on MTV, but if I recall correctly (it's been a long time since I watched the VHS tapes now that the series is out on DVD!), some of the MTV-aired episodes have the 1st/2nd season summer rerun song replacements, but none of them had the Saturday morning rerun song formats. Thanks for sharing! I love the other rarities too!

  • Actually, MTV did show a couple of the Saturday morning versions. "Monkees On Tour" featured "Steam Engine" and "The Chaperone" featured "Midnight Train".

  • Yes, I recall seeing both of those in the late '80s on a local Detroit TV station. Great stuff!

  • LOVE this song.

  • Anti fordis, that may be as it may be, I was impling about the refference to " i;ll be back upon my feet whis also has it alternate version but as you know most all if not ebery song done on the show is quite different from the release on LP, which is what I was always intrigged me all the missing links are good to have.

  • Although this is a good song, I prefer to hear the original song which was indeed I'll Be Back Upon My

Feet. It's funny how they dubbed songs in over the years.

  • i'd have to agree with you, ElJefeNLA, i like I'll Be Back Upon My Feet better than this song. don't get me wrong, i love everything the monkees did, and this is no exception. i have this episode on video, it was the first one i ever saw, back in 2000.(i'm only 12, mind you)

  • Don't worry I was 12 when I first saw The Monkees in 1986

  • That aint no rare video , the clip is from the show, and the music is from the instant replay album, the song maybe rare be certainly not the clip

  • "If You Have the Time" was recorded on May 1, 1969. The Instant Replay album was released in February 1969. The song wasn't released until 1987's "Missing Links" lp. If you pay close attention to the clip I posted, you'll note that the synthesizer that appears in the song is nowhere to be found. This is the unique version of the song as broadcast NOVEMBER 27, 1971 during the "Dance, Monkee, Dance", Episode on ABC. (The song featured originally was "I'll Be Back Upon My Feet".)

  • Don't pay the carpers any attention... I really appreciate your postings.

  • @Antifrodis Right airdate, wrong network. The Monkees was still on CBS that season; it would move to ABC the very next year. 8^B

  • @AarHan3 "Dance Monkee Dance" was never rerun on ABC, BTW.

  • @AarHan3 I live in the UK and in 1997 many Monkees episodes were shown on UK tv. I remember recording this episode during the summer of that year. The song used in this clip was 'I'll be back up on my feet'.

  • Hey Odawek, Man you are way off. This is one of the rarest Monkees clips of all. This mix of the OUTTAKE "If You Have The Time" is not the version available on "Missing Links". It was recorded after 1969's "Instant Replay" and didn't make it to "Present" (it should have) nor "Changes". It's from the syndicated version of the show. It's great to finally see this and "I Never Thought It Peculiar". Great stuff Antifrodis! Keep 'em comin'!
