I agree with almost everything you say, however, the score is far from mundane. It actually carries the film. Not too sure on the career mistake comment either.
I also liked the book a lot, was one of the best I read in my life. But now I'm reading another book Angeles and demons of Dan Brown also will get a movie in 2009, will be headed by ROWN Howard and starring our beloved Tom Hanks (Robert Landgon). The Visiting?

i prefered the book too... Dan Brown has a vivid imagination, that's for sure.
