These guys were excellent at passing guard and sweeps.
Buuuut they weren't good at setting someone up for a submission. In fact they sucked at doing that. I could've told him he wasn't going to get that arm bar.
These seem to be the better practitioners that I've seen in the military most of the ground work is reprehensible(that goes for the Marine corp and the Army). These guys are good and since they are young they have alot of time during their military careers to get better. Keep up the good work.
I'm new to Brazilian Jujitsu, but these guys are using their strength more than their heads. Either one of them could have won this match in the first 2 minutes if they had actually been using jujitsu.
This is a sport jiu jitsu match. Thats why there is no striking. There are many just BJJ events such as the Pan Ams, Abu dhabi. Their technique didn't look any worse than any other novice. I was in the Army and now train at gracie academy. The military doesn't train hand to hand often enough for muscle mem. thats why their technique sucked. Still its good to see the military taking hand to hand serious.
First of all, great video. Thanks for sharing. I don't know where all the negativity comes from below, but I thought both showed great skill (great sweeps, but sloppy sub attempts). They looked like white belt 2-3 stripers. As for the comments about BJJ and striking, yes BJJ involves striking, but only for self defense purposes. This is more of sport no-gi BJJ. And no, this is not wrestling, they are playing a guard game (backs to the mat). So please everybody, think before you make judgment.

Ju-jitsu or Ju-jutsu isn't Brazilian Jiu-Jitsui. The first its an ancient japanese martial art used by samurais, and it cover all the aspects of the fight. It was the origin of Karate, Kendo, Aikido, Judo, etc.
Brazilian Jui-jitsui its a derivation of Judo, towards an specialization in Katame-waza (ground techniques), formed by Osaekomi-waza (ground control), Kansetsu-waza (articulation locks) and Shime-waza (shokes).
you are all idiots! of course its ju jitsu. as for hitting on the ground bjj has none and its stricktly ileagl in comps. this is just a no gi grappling match. and fuck are they talented. look at those sweeps man!
Ju Jitsu does involve kicking and hitting, out on the streets. This was a fight about control. The idea is to get a submission, not beat the crap out of the other person. BJJ is a different style of JJ. Oh and Judo came from Ju Jitsu...
looks more like russian Sambo(!!!), in between jujitsu ground fight and Graeco-Roman. I practice Jujitsu and my father is Greco Roman and Sambo international instructor.
If this is jujitsu where are the kicks, the punches and the Judo? if it's BJJ were are the punches on the ground and the chokes?
fat lotta good this is gonna do these yankee FUKKWITTS in IRAQ fully armed and uniformed, with a SNIPERS cross hair LOCKED on there temple...B-A-N-G...and it's goodnight from corporal FUKKWITT...LOL!
I've never lost in a jiu itsu match, in about 35-40 matches, and the one thing they need to work on is sweep defense, i counted around 14 successful sweeps... and the whole shoe thing, i go bare foot, i don't do much guard stacking and i feel it's easier to get hooks in barefoot, and easy to get out of leg locks, heel hooks (<---owy) etc... so no shoes, work on sweep defense... nice fight I'd like to see who won it though!!
In the beginning, I was pretty sure Juan was going to win. But then I noticed how poor his escaping that front scissor (guard) was. Obvious they can both sweep but what's the point if you don't know what to do after that. Looks like these two had 1-6 months of mat time. Good potential but they need TONS more training before they compete again imho.
That's exactly how you get better. You have to fight in tournaments & competitions. The whacky thing about no-gi (imho) is that there are no clear divisions. You can have a brown belt grapping against a blue belt. It's tough.
Great attempts at the triangle at the end there I really thought he had it. As well as the fake to get out and attempting the guillotine choke.
Were you not allowed to strike in that competition? Because breaking the guard would have been fairly easy even if you just rubbed your elbow into the antteral femoral nerve for whoever was in the guard
Man, he shouldn't have given up on that choke. Looked like his body wasn't positioned right but still probably would have eventually gotten it. Good entertaining match.
i hope they are not black belts very weak sprawl at begginning very weak side mounts half the time shoe guy was locking arms and not concentrating on opponents legs or on using momentum to force the choke several times i saw a knee lock could be done weak triangle didnt even pull his leg with open arm.....
technique was bad seen 9 year old girl grapple better but she was quite good anyway.. :P
but yes you guys moved very fast but no real control of the sitsuation.. little knowledge of pinning techniques and positions the fight would have gone in another direction..
novices ...he had the choke then moved to side mount...novices..not bad for novices though.

this is supposed to be jiu jitsu?
it looks like everything jiu has been taken out.
- no finger grabs
- no chokes with the hands
- no pressure point manipulation
- the list goes on.
what is left is no more than wrestling, which is great, just NOT JIU JITSU.

It's probably the US army groundfighting system.

this is not jujitsu, it's greek-roman fight, I don't know if in the U.S.A. thoose things are the same...
Xebege 4 years ago
What do you mean? Greek-Roman has no attacks below the waist. This is submission Ju-Jitsu.
Maybe you were expecting to see the Judo gi, which is the traditional white uniform?
But trust me, this is a no gi jujitsu match.
It's not judo, not wrestling, not Greek Roman, its BJJ ~Brasilain Ju Jitsu~

You can't touch these men, you vulgar stupid shit!
Yes it does alot of good. These guys can kill with their bare hands because they are absorbing realistic hand to hand combat skills.
Pukes like you would not last one minute on the mat, or one week in their academics.
Which side are you on?

shoes r good for traction , while barefoot is great for moving ur legs while close to ur opponents body
angelesxxx 4 years ago
Shoes are good for getting caught in ankle/leglocks. I don't fight in shoes, I would rather have a nice sweaty foot to squeeze out of ankle lock.
I HATE HATE HATE getting submitted by ankle locks!
I would rather have my elbow destroyed in an armlock, then tap to an ankle lock.
I wonder why that is??

Nick, The fighter can wear whatever they want on feet. They don't have to wear any shoes at all, or some of them choose to wear wrestling shoes.
