  • Thank God I'm not one of those 89 people who dislike this smooth jazz gem because it's uplifting, inspiring, and soothing. Thanks so much for this class post! Right now, I'm sketching as I'm listening to this piece of freedom

  • why so many people hate this song?

  • Will forever be connected to the 1980s Televisa series "Tres Generaciones"...Particularly the opening credits. The narrator's intro, his introducing of "Andrea, la joven" (originally Sasha Sokol), "Leota, la madre" (Angelica Maria, of course) and "Carmen (Montejo), la abuela...ellas forman tres generaciones."

  • Nothing like a great spot with someone special and this on.

  • This is what smooth jazz is about !

  • it´s perfect...

  • isleoforkney you are so so boring

  • no matter, good music is good music!

  • Smooth and sweet. All you need is a great woman close to your side as you run down the highway to the beach and a hotel where you tell her how much you love her!!.

  • I love this piece so much I could never get tired of it.

  • brilliant two masters at work

  • I wanna hear some Grusin right now, and I can because it's my birthday. Some light studious scales along with that suspension of time that is Dave. Might start with Zappa and work back to the origin......my YT mailbag will be bulging the next time I log on....snigger snort, but you know what I mean. Was that a triple innuendo? Frank would've been proud

  • @Rikk303 triple entendre even

  • @Rikk303 I hate it when I mix up my entendres with my innuendae

  • as much as i love lee on acoustic guitar i stiil think he should have done more rock stuff like on the rit albums and banded together! he expresses himself equally as good on both instruments! not complaining just saying thats all!!

  • @MrTonedeff he was working within the scenario of the Grusin vision

  • @Rikk303 hey rikk i love grusin! mountain dance is superb and early A M attitude! fantastique'!they have great chemistry as do all professional players of similar calibre! they can play in any given musical situation! like the earth run album too!

  • @MrTonedeff I remember watching a film about Glenn Miller....I think James Stewart played him. He sort of shuffled members of the band around until he got "THE sound" Kinda feel Grusin had a similar epiphany when he discovered that stretched sort of timing that is his trademark. Lazy sounding music but you have to sweat like a pig to make it. McLaughlin owes a lot to this guy

  • @Rikk303 hi rikk i gotta say i was a late arrival to dave grusin.i was buying lee,s jazz fusion albums so when i bought Earth Run then i knew grusin,s sound and his songs like Watercolours .both musicians are top drawer in their field no question! i also liked grusin,s playing in the fabulous baker boys with ritenour and sax player ernie watts!

  • @MrTonedeff it's you again Mr. TD!!!!!!

  • @Rikk303 just to add to my other posting,i think this fusion music is lumped in with elevator and canned muzak so it sounds as you said easy listening with no effort required to play it.to people who don,t appreciate good players it may sound that way,but we know different dont we rikk.quality music played by mega talented musicians who learned their craft and practised their asses off and earned the respect and recognition they deserved!

  • @MrTonedeff yeah I was a Johnny-come-lately to the Grusin magic as well. His stuff kept cropping up in films and always caught my attention....maybe a bit what a fish feels like when it gets caught.Nice easy free meal then suddenly you're out of your element, stopping in the new world for a bit and then slung back into your original environment.Bit of a stretched metaphor but I think you'll know what I mean!Billy Cobham does this timing/space economy with complexity thing really well too

  • @Rikk303 well rikk ritenour reckons he and grusin are tied at the hip musically on his collection album for GRP records! all i know is they compliment one another perfectly like ritenour and bob james in fourplay.it sounds good and is interesting even without vocals!

  • @MrTonedeff not sure if you got my mail where I said people of an era with certain tastes can be compartmentalised.Let's try an experiment...I really like a band called Alabama 3.You probably know them from the"Sopranos" theme. If you don't know them,YT them.Pretty sure you'll love 'em.If you do, that will add weight to my thesis of commonality. And that's a GOOD thing!

  • @Rikk303 i think i get your drift rikk ,just because i may be over 40 i just like older music and artists .in effect i would,nt be expected to like current music.well i hate to disappoint you but i really only like old stuff like ritenour, toto, clapton, steely dan,boz scaggs, rod stewart.so i don,t listen to chart music or trendy hip music! in regard to the song you reccomended it suits the programme perfectly.i think it sounds like fun lovin' criminals.but i would,nt buy it just my opinion!!

  • @MrTonedeff well, I've been playing for around 40 years now, albeit in a tuning..nobody can jam with me, but I seem to be able to play the right notes where "normal" musicians are concerned.Never really saw it as "practising my ass off", I just noodled with the guitar every night instead of switching the TV on.When I can bear to play in front of people, they are always very kind and say I should share my playing rather than be selfish.Respect as a guitarist was the last thing ever I sought

  • @Rikk303 well if you get half as good as these guys you're aces in my book Rikk! i don,t think it,s unreasonable to expect respect when you achieve the standards that Rit and Grusin have achieved! i have a lot of respect for these guys and other players of a similar calibre like larry carlton, bob james, dean parks, jeff porcaro and carlos vega to name a few.all these cats are major players!

  • man i had fogotten about this dynamic duo, what awsome talent.

  • This album is one of Grusin/Ritenour's best. It definitely grabbed me early on and turned me into a fan of smooth jazz from that point on!

  • Sublime.........
