  • Never buy or put in dark color wood floors. Any light smudge is stand out on the floor. Go with lighter or natural brown wood coloring.

  • Thanks for the video. I will stay away from this company as well. Anytime anyone has a problem with a product or service, please make a video of it so you can warn other. Sounds like a manufacturer's defect. The company that installed this product probably got a great deal on this floor and he installed it on your floor. Seems like the installer is at fault. I'd like to see what the installer has to say and what they will do to solve this problem.

  • was there any left over pcs that were not installed ? if so did they have the same marks ? looks to me that this is either a factory defect, or your installer did this putting them in . did you watch the install ? was he banging on them to put them in ? go buy another box and see if they have the same marks. I agree it looks terible its not right thats for sure.

  • I installed Formica Quintessa Hard Maple flooring in my basement. It is well made and very easy to install. I needed no mallets or glue to assemble the floor. Only a good saw blade to cut to length. Also, Quintessa has beveled edges to appear as large individual planks. I don't see any cupping. That is the way it is manufactured. Sorry you don't like how it looks but I love ours.

  • Take responsibility for your decisions. YOU are pathetic!!

  • im from newbrunswick canada to :D , have you heard of a place called perth-andover ?

  • I just bought the same Laminate in lighter color, which is by the way called Quintessa. I saw those (chatter) marks before buying, but decided to buy anyway because I was impressed by the quality ( made in Germany not in China.)

Your floor is a very dark color and the sunlight does not make it look very good ... in a subdued lighting it might look decent...

Also the planks might look better if installed the opposite way...

I installed mine -look good.. wish did not have marks; but ...

  • Is there any way you can get ahold of the sample you're contractor showed you? If the marks aren't evident on the sample, then you've got something to go on.

  • They sell something called Biancoat in Japan which is supposed to work on at least some laminate floors. It's probably hard to find and expensive as hell in North America though and for what it's worth, I'd expect it to void the floor's warranty. Short of that, have you tried any polishes? I'd hope polishing with an electric buffer would make those marks less obvious. Good Luck.

  • I purchased Formica Flooring but it is a lighter color, Quintesse Rosario and I love it. I installed it myself and it was soooo easy. So far nothing wrong with my flooring. It seems as if maybe you just got a bad batch of flooring or a bad install job. I dropped a heavy metal tool on it on accident and it did not scratch at all. I love my flooring.

  • CEU Compass, you had better get on the case and get that floor replaced. By the way, Formica is now owned by Kronotex, the same flooring you can get cheaply at Cosco when available. Also where your boards meet, I see cupping, I bet the connecting tongues are broken that is why I also don't see a clean smooth surface at the joints. Sheesh, could it be from beating excessively on the boards so they will connect? Go to your State Licensing Board

  • Let me define chatter marks, those are marks left on the wood after it goes thru the milling process prior to sanding. Chatter marks are beautiful and give the wood character, some laminate manufacturers add these in to acheive that look, to describe- imperfections in the wood grain itself. Those Smudges you see on the video are not chatter marks they are smudges on the surface that we have seen before. Glue on an installers shoes, a dirty rag when cleaning or rubber mallet marks from pounding.

  • I own a flooring store in Murrieta Ca and we dont carry Formica Laminates because of the way their surfaces mar and scratch easily. We sell and install wood and laminate flooring, and I can tell you most definitely that those are not chatter marks they are smudges from some moron pounding on the planks to instal instead of tapping them in. Those wont come out because they were beaten in, seen it before. Sue those rats!

  • codfish that is an absurd comment on your part. It is very possible that those subtle marks would not show up in a store sample, under their lighting conditions. I find it very hard to believe that those are intended design features.

I am curious if the OP got any further responses from the manufacturer.

  • I feel horrible for you. Those marks do look like shoe scuffs, or residual film or something. My suggestion is to seek out samples of this flooring from other outlets and see if it looks the same. I am incllined to think the batch was flawed. The reflection of light shouldnt cause it to look scuffed and dirty. I wish you luck.

  • Absolutely not. I was under a false impression. Absolutely no dishonesty from my end.

  • I have contacted the manufacturer and there seems to be some confusion. They have not produce formica flooring for some time and a new group has taken over the production. Post an apology for what? For not liking the way my floors look? Never. I am going to get to the bottom of this $10,000.00 + mistake.

  • @CEUCompass 10k$? ouch...for that price u coudl have gotten real wood flooring..high end too laminate flooring can be done for as little as 2k$

  • I did what you suggested and I emailed my video to the North American company and in the last 2 days I have received over 500 identical automated responses!!!! Grrrrr!! This company is pathetic!!

  • It looks as though it could be a wax residue on the floor boards. Chatter marks refers to floor sanding and this should not be done of laminate floors. When using a laminate floor cleaner is there any resistance when cleaning or does this glide over the marks? What kind of finish is the floor?

  • This is the way they are suppose to look like. You can not wax, sand or cover laminate flooring. The company that installed the floors said there is absolutely nothing I can do to change the appearance. The representative for Formica came to my house to look at the floor. He said their is absolutely nothing they can do to make it better. When I asked him if he liked the appearance of the floor and he said "no, it looks horrible, I would never buy this for my own home".

  • wow that is really unfair, you should send this video to formica!

    that cant be right.....

  • Thanks for sharing, I will show this to my installer BEFORE he lays anything.. FYI he reccomended Formica..
