The "awkwardness" just brings home the old adage about two wrongs not making a right. The question is whether the wrong is in giving you money because of your "race" in reparation for something which wasn't done to you, or whether it's in the face that educational access is a hodgepodge of academics, politics, and economics. I'm not Mr. Socialist, but if you have the ability I think you ought to be able to go to school. On the other hand, rank has its privileges which is why people excel.

All the money that Canadians make is from Native peoples resources, so when they say "give me back my money" just say "give me back my land then". Natives are the ones losing in this set up.

If you are of Russian descent, should you be able to go back to Russia and make native claim? Should I be able to make a race based claim on Scotland because I can prove which land my ancestors owned there? It's absurd, and it's racist to keep up this dated notion of the Amerindian as a housepet of the modern nation which is supposed to stay tribal and put on rain dances and stuff.

My ignorance came from my girlfriends ex and also one of my friends boyfriends telling me i was black... well i'm from sri lanka, i'm pretty much as brown as brown could be, and her ex it turned out was a racist guy who hated black people in general, douche. my friends boyfriend was taken aback when i saide i was tamil and sri lanken and told me i was the only good tamil person he met... douche. they both insulted me and all black people at the same time. wow.

Hey,I'm also native.And yes,I have also taken my share of ignorant people being judgemental once they found out I was aborigional.However,my sister get's the brunt of it because her skin is darker than mine.Which really makes me angry.I mean I can choose to blend in and conform to acting like a white person.But why should I be ashamed.I would rather set and example and show Ignorant people to not judge us by the color's of our skin but by our character and what we are trying to portray.

so I became angry and lost my thoughts in translation to what shouldn't bee. I run into ignorant people all the time, it makes me sad and well frustrated. I was ignorant once I guess, just talked out of my ass and never really sat and gave it a real thought behind it. One recent thing was the Islamic religion, I though "How is it that these people have such an evil God that pursues them to kill everyone?" I thought "let's get rid of these people, who cares if they die".

I was always told Andrew that the money comes from the land. The resources. The Royal Proclamation indicates that money was to be set aside for Natives. Now the gov't of Canada will only say that money is 'public funds' and so it makes me wonder...Where is the money from the land and resources? What have they done with it? When I was younger I was also questioned about my Treaty Card and I didn't know the answers...today it's different. I am informed and now nobody wants to know anymore.

The other day, my uncle was attacked by a gang of punks after trying to help a man they just curb stomped... The police accused my uncle of being drunk. He hadn't drank a drop all day, he was actually up late finishing homework. He's back in school and has majored in indigenous studies and is pursuing a degree in education.
