  • This girl is a fine banjo player ,wish I could play like that you are born with a talent such as that . only advice to Angelina is to acquire the rawness of Bronagh Graham ...Now theres a fine female banjo player.

  • Fine playing ...nice and bright and bouncy ...Knew this ladys great relations Pete and Kevin...the times they are a passing!

  • As far as I'm aware music is for the ears. And It sounds superb to my ears... So there should be no complaints unless your tone deaf.

  • The best of the best............cheers

  • Somebody makin coments is a pint shy, and bein born wid no fingers robs me of the enjoyment ov dem what;s ben blessed thats not to say I myself wid no fingers has any problem tappin me foot and histen a pint wid the stumps the war left behind. Safe Harbor Cap'n Rick

  • Angelina is a babe!

  • angelina's my auntie.:).

  • Just a noise - little melody even !! After 30 seconds I'm sick and irritated by this. Eeewe !!

  • fantastic stuff. I'd recommend any of their albums also.

love what Martin manages to get out of the basses.

    watch and learn!

  • Name the song please :D ?? ..

    great!..

  • The crowd are dead as Dodos they should wake up

  • well done

  • Absolutely brilliant. These two are the best!! I saw them in person in Baltimore where there are so many great American Irish players and was blown away by the performance. Such a pleasure to hear this music played so effortlessly. You just can't get any better than Angelina on the banjo. She is small in stature but a giant player. Love them both!

  • this would be so much better if they smiled more! they look so depressed, music's that much more enjoyable when the people playing it look like they're enjoying it too!

  • @Thornyfy fake smiles as a skill for talented musicians: nul points.

  • @Thornyfy

It's just the custom in Irish music for the players to have a neutral expression ... the music itself is intense and doesn't need any visual additions - you'll get used to it after a while and then when you see people grinning as they play, you'll notice the distraction

  • @Thornyfy yeah and maybe if they wore shiny costumes and had a smoke machine it would be better too, give me a break. that focused look on their faces is not one of depression but rather one of the type of relaxed concentration it takes to play incredible music like this....

  • Fair play lads Eireann go Brach

  • Up Angelina !

  • That's a great video!

And as far as all these crazy comments go, I think that one of the beautiful things about playing music is that the first rule is: Don't tell someone else how to play.

I know that there's "techniques" I've been to music school, but how do you think we got a technique? some guy came up with it!!!

I say whatever works for you...as long as your not doing something to hurt yourself(carpel tunnel or something) Let the music speak for itself-how does it sound, not how it looks.

  • Bravissimi!! ottima tenuta del tempo ed esecuzione perfetta, complimenti!

  • That was / is excellant!

  • sauknorke

  • Did ou ever hear Noel Strange?

  • Fantastic, fabulous players ! ! ! 5 *****, Christian, from France

  • I love these guys. I often feel that the younger generation don't quite have the depth of feeling that the players I used to hear in the 70's, but not with these two! As good in their own way as the fabled combo of Liam Farrell and Raymond Roland.

As for this blather about technique, what is this, a damn dog show or something? Look at the size of this woman's hands and ask yourself how she's going to stretch her ring finger anywhere at all. It's a wonder she doesn't fall into the banjo!

  • How the music appeals to the wee lass yawning at 45 secs. Very much enjoyed the posting thanks.

  • need more cowbells

  • For those of you who dont know what type of accordion this is this is a hohner which had been specially modified. I know this because i was ata workshop with marting quinn :)

The accordion is a two reed, but is very powerful indeed all the standard basses have been changed which, if you listen carefully you may hear the changes. and box has been fitted with a new keybooard.

    Martin does repair/sell/modify accordions.

at a cheap price is well.

  • @kingkong0100 i inherited a hohner erica modell from my grandfather. and i really want to learn this instrument, but i think there is a difference between both models even though the buttons are optically the same. is it a different tuning perhaps?

  • @krimskrams yes yours likely has two rows tuned a fifth apart (D/G perhaps) while the irish style button accordions like the one he is playing here usually have two rows tuned a semi-tone apart (B/C)

  • That is why I play music and one of these days please god, i'll catch up to you both, but until then as long as I have my mind and my fingers I will be reaching for your perfection. Awesome stuff.

  • cool

  • God Angelina is Incredible

  • that is a melodion not accordion

  • It's not a melodeon. It's a 2-row accordion.

    A melodeon has one row.

  • @Morris4beer First off, when speaking in terms of irish traditional music, a melodeon tends to be single row, not double like Martin's, and second, it's a type of accordion. The accordion isn't a single instrument, it's a family of instruments like this one, piano accordions, concertinas, bandoneons etc. Do your homework.

  • go hiontach!

  • bravo toll gemacht

    LG Bert

  • its a good tune but the accordian tends to drown out the great sound of the banjo

  • does any1 no wat accordion he is using???

  • A Bb/B or B/C 2-row accordion

  • thnks 4 da info, but i woz wonderin what make it is............any idea???

  • Please, write in common English. I'm French and this is what I am trying to do, in order to be understandable by everyone.

The box is probably a Hohner that has been transformed. (the decorations has been removed). I guess that the reeds are different too (at least, the tuning is special, I don't think that Bb/B is a standard tuning by Hohner).

But on this video, Martin is using a more standard B/C box.

  • great life in that music, love to hear ye playing with the kane sisters, pop down to Letterfrack some time

  • ye sound brilliant together well done best duet I heard

  • complimenti

  • ye i have noticed the majority of

    gerry oconner, eamon coyne

  • Merveilleux ! Fantastique

  • great performance!

It looked like she had 6 fingers for a second!

  • Lovely hurling. great music ♥ *****

  • I think the people of northeastern Brazil tried this with the sound of Irish immigrants in 1826 and based this musical sound was the northeastern XAXADO

  • Woo! Lovely!

  • Amazing- we are huge fans of angelina. Cheers from Brooklyn.

  • Great tunes and playing . . but her technique is wrong she uses her baby finger where her ring finger should be. .

  • I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Are you just adding comments to be annoying?

  • what are you on about richie?

  • there's nothing wrong with her "technique", this is trad music, not bleedin classical - cop onto yourself. Jaysus, the next time I'm in Custy's I must keep me eye's peeled for that well known trad CD "richiem95's Correct Techniques for the Tenor Banjo..." Oh, hang on, you don't have any CD's out, whereas Angelina has recorded THREE CD's...

    Angelina's baby finger 3 - richiem95 nil!

  • are you stupid i have many CD's produced but not under richiem95 obviously so think before you speak. The proper technique of the left hand is the same as the fidle if you knew anything about banjo madramaith!

  • Um, if I'm not mistaken Gerry O'Connor advocates for using the wee finger when playing as well, but sure who is he compared to the notorious richiem95? If you're such a high flyer in trad, lets be having you mate - give up your real name, you know, the one you've produced all those CD's with. It doesn't matter what technique Angelina uses - she's still a mighty banjo player, whereas you're just some troll on the internet. Oh, and don't call me stupid, you old tosser..

  • I agree about her being a good banjo player. It's just people then pick up the banjo and think that it's correct... whereas they should be following banjo players like the flanagan brothers....

  • It's just THAT people ...

Or maybe "banjo p;ayers THAT like the (CapitalF) Flanigan bros." ?

  • No its not, using the pinkie for the 5th fret is easier than leaping around the fretboard with 3 fingers. Gerry O Connor calls it finger fret assignment, its a good technique and widely used by the better banjo players.

  • so the flanagan brothers who sold more singles than the beatles did albums are wrong?....

  • With a short neck (17 frets) you can use the mandolin fingering on most cases. With a 19 frets, well, it depends on your constitution ... It is that difficult to understand ?

  • its not hard to understand but its wrong sorry...

  • Apostrophe required in "its" i.e. it's not hard to do

  • Do you want to say "IN most cases.."

and "is that difficult to understand ?"

The "it" makes sense only if you are making a statement about how sifficult it is. Since there is a "?" it is likely meant as a question, and so the "it" is an appendage that makes ambiguous nonsense of the phrase I hope that helps Ok ?! (you're not Bulgarian by any chance ? - I need a teacher)

  • i play the banjo and i use this technique???!? :/ its not wrong...

  • If yo can do it, it's OK. Not everybody have fingers long enough for it.

  • @richiem95 its not about how you do it, its about how it sounds! get over yourself

  • @madramaith Just because its its trad doesnt mean you dont need technique... like are you retarded?

  • @richiem95 - Why yes richiem, I AM retarded! And you sir, are a psychopath - one of the hallmarks of a psychopath is the inability to let go of a perceived slight. TWO YEARS later you're still trolling here? Get a bloody life man. Oh and I recall challenging you to post video of your "superior" technique here for us all to fawn over, and surprise surprise, as Cilla Black would say, there's no such video forthcoming. Put up or shut up you charlatan.

  • @madramaith I obviously wasnt thinkin of it for 2 years hahaha i was reading my comments so feck off

  • On the banjo, you do what is comfortable to you. Period.

  • there reels.

  • Fabulous playing! A real inspiration,

however..........if Angelina continues to contort her body like that she is going to end up deformed - it is ugly to look at and there's no need for such a competent player to be looking at her strings. Put your head up, Angelina, and smile at your audience, or at least at your fellow musician - you're a wonderful player and a beautiful girl!

  • Good grief! Patronising git.

  • banduraplayer, you are an eedjit.

  • GEEE! Gotta give it to the IRISH ..GREAT Talent- I'm from Newfoundland, Canada.. LOVE the IRISH JIGS

  • Actually, they played 3 reels...

  • Excellent stuff!

  • Vraiment excellent, quel swing ! et tout ça avec un bon vieil hohner erica déshabillé... plus un banjo, bien sur ;-)

  • Ha! Banjo girls, ya gotta love 'em. :D These two are great together...

  • Absolutely brilliant, this makes my heart flutter and my feet itch and it is absolutely lovely

  • incredible playing with 3 very good reels
