People are far too vague when referring to their favorite guitar players. Jimi Hendrix was not technical, Slash is hardly technical, they are stylistic players, and so are people like Michael Romeo/Yngwie/etc. but they are also technical players. Technical players are usually far ahead of players like Slash or Hendrix in the physical ability to play the guitar. To say Slash/Hendrix could do something like this is like saying you didn't go to Harvard because you wanted to go to community schoo

Here's part of what I like about this. It's a got a quite a blend of "speeds" the controled picking in the first 55 seconds is just hard. It's a lot "easier" at times to just go fast. Great controle. But then there's the crazy speed too. Just good stuff.

Michael Romeo is one of the best guitarists in metal because he not only has a ton of technical chops, but actually knows how to make songs that equal the greatness of his technical prowess.

Guitarists like Yngwie Malmsteen may have all of the technical chops in the world, but their songs are terrible and only serve as vehicles for their guitar work. With Symphony X, you get jaw-dropping guitar wizardry AND great songs to bang your head to.
