2nd As long as it is made "Right" they are very effective.

3rd When made the right way it kills almost instantly.

4th They can be made so that you harvest the game animal alive and unharmed.

@VJakeV Really you should use thin copper wire for rabbits and other small animals. That cord he used in this video would probably do a really good job of slinging a rabbit a few inches up in the air, but it wouldnt catch anything.

Thanks! sweet, One of my favorite snares is weighted snare. It takes some skill to make but its really quick, clean and easy to reset. One of the reason snares are VERY illegal is because if some kid put one in his backyard and snared their neighbors cat or dog, yeah.

As a little legal tip to the boyscout in the video, it's actually perfectly legal. You just need a fur bearers license and to set your traps during the trapping season. Not everyone has money to go out and buy steel jaw leg traps or coil traps so many people use snares or pits. Decent video on snares none the less.

That probably wont work. You have to bait the stick that is tied to the sapling and lay the noose on the ground. So when the animal tries to lick the bait off, it will trigger the stick and hook its leg. You also need a bigger tree bra.

its actually legal in most states. they use wire snares. I do every year in indiana and have great success. However, many states, like mine, require a minimum opening and a certain amount of force that will allow the animals to free themselves. I for one would rather die this way than have my foot in pain for a day until some big scary guy comes and clubs me over the head.

One usefull place to make these kind of snares is in front of a rabbit hole, like you said. From the sides of the rabbit hole, to the snare itself, make a corridor from plants/sticks so that your prey HAS to walk into the snare. Another great video by the way!
