@ReptileGirl621 haha thats what my mom said, now I might be getting my second boa soon =) The max size for these guys is pretty big, 15 feet or so. However that is very very rare, the biggest one ive ever seen in person was about 10 feet. But the average for a male is 6-7 feet while about 8 for a female. And they arent really all that hard to care for when it comes to temps and humidity they are pretty tolerant of change, They can require pretty big cages and food items though, depending on size.
I created a site, showmyreptile com, where you can upload pics, videos, start discussions, chat w/ other members, and start groups. Looking for members, would love for you to join. Thanks!
have you had her all your life ? I have a small female , and she is the nastiest snake i have ever encounterd . lol I handle her with gloves at the moment she gets really stressed if i handle her without , plus she hisses alot when i open her tank but i wont handle her if she does. Any advice on what to do ?
@ReptileRoom1993 Do not let your snake hissing or being defensive prevent you from handling them. If you let them scare you and you hesitate to handle them you are reinforcing that behavior. You must also teach your snake when it is feeding time and when it is handling time. For example, you may tap her with a roll of paper towels or a snake hook, which will alert her to your presence and give you an opportunity to get your hands under her. Most snakes relax once you pick them up.
can someone please view my vids of my snake n lemme kno if shes a BCC/BCI or w/e... i was told she was a Red Tail wen i bought her, but im not sure. she DOES have Bright red in her tail but i cant tell the difference...
I really want a snake. I really would like a large wide in girth snake even for my first one. Do you have any suggestions as to a snake that is gentle and non aggressive, but at the same time will grow to around the size of your snake. Thanks
Thanks for this! It's a wonderful break from the ubiquitous same-ol' same-ol' "snake- strike- already- dead- something- or- other- and- eats- it" video we see so often, here.
Always nice to see a Boa of this size/age in such good condition. And i get the sense that you guys care a lot for her/him. ^_^ Just wanted to say that its good to see.
omg i held a snake like this today at my schools charity carnival! you paid two dollars and you got your picture with the snake i was scared so much! it was so fat and its skin felt weird! no offense to snake lovers because it was my first time! AHHH!!
What a beautiful boa you have.I am starting to become really intrigued by BCIs, but my only concern is will I be able to handle one when they reach over 8 feet. I've been looking into hog island boas.
Nice girl. Ignore the idiots with the shitty comments. Also Ball pythons are NOT good beginner snakes as they can be finicky eaters and shy. Most of the Colubrids make great starter snakes as they are generally hardy, easy to care for and more forgiving.
hey dude great boa, but corn snakes are better ball pythons, a ball python is like a pet rock, the only cool thing about ball pythons are all of the morphs
First he is actually a SHE which if you know anything about snakes are bigger than the male, Second SHE has never been power fed, Third she is already older than 10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you should of listened to your mother as a child an think before you speak !!!!!!!
@peteandvic some male snakes actually do get bigger than females especially Colubrids ive had a couple of rat snakes that were bigger than my females out of the same clutch so you should do research before you tell others to think before they speak when clearly you know nothing either.
Royal pythons are a good snake to start with if you get a young one-- alot of people say corn snakes are a good start off snake. but corn snakes are my least favourite snake so i would not say that !!!!
Garter snakes are the best snakes to start off on because they need hardly any care. They range from all climates from the Equator to near the Arctic Circle so they don't need a heat pad or a heat lamp, except in the winter, they are the most widely-spread snake in the world. Also they don't usually grow over 2 feet, so all you need is a 10 or 20 gallon tank to get set. Just put down some fake moss, a place for them to sleep under, and a water bowl full of feeder guppies and you're set!
@Helicopterpilot16 i would be carefull ive got two royal pythons and one is an angry one and likes to bite so be carefull with them but the other one is fine
Thanks hunny!! My girl is calming down quite a lot now, not so hissy and always wants to say hello when I approach her. She's not too keen on my hubby though! But I told him if you want Pandora to like you your gonna have to start stroking her etc so she gets use to you.

When they're about that size, you'll need about a 6ft viv.
I currently have a boa that is about a year old and is currently in one of those plastic vivs.
It'll be many years before you need a full size viv tho, so forget about it for now! :P
