The second song is soul cake, it's an English traditional song. HE used to sing it when he was little in his town Wallsend (near Newcastle). Hope it helped;)
Sting has always impressed me because he basically evolved his own brand of music. I think nothing like the sun is his magnum opus. Listen to "secret marriage" --it is unmatched in pop.
Any artist who tries different sounds, and continues to grow there craft is genious in my opinion, This new album he just released is exactly that an absolute treasure to listen to, not just for the Christmas season but for all of winter. Definitely something I will be listening to all winter for sure :)
Sting's exploration of different musical styles just shows his genious....maybe he was a traveling minstral in a different life...they had to adjust their musical styles to fit in with the current audience.
I love sting, but it's like he's having an identity/ confidence crisis; keeps coming up with those strange styles of music, the lout album then this, it just seems forced and somehow fake!
Sting is calling it "Soul Cakes" - it's a traditional English begging song. From the looks of other performances of this song on YouTube (including a really great one from Peter, Paul & Mary), many folks call it "Soulin". I prefer Sting's title.
