This is the best live video of Venom I've ever seen. I've seen them live and the sound was quite muddy. This is a rare find, I would love to own it. What is the source?

'WHY IS THIS VERSION NOT ON CD? This is genius. The devils chainsaw guitar sound, the blast beats, Cronos' balls in a vise vocals, and most of all the Dario Argento lighting. The overly saturated reds and yellows make this video a work of pure horror genius. The effect at 2:14 is just brilliant: Cronos pukes his vocals into the elevated mic while the Argento lighting effects highlight his demonic form. I wonder if Venom were consciously trying to duplicate Argentos lighting style in this.

It is soooooo much better than the studio version....faster, more brutal.....with a much better tone from Jeff Dunn......This guitar sound set the standard for extreme metal. I like to refer to it as Satan's Chainsaw. The tone he gets at the start of the solo makes the hair on my arms stand up. And the extro as well (with the wah wah). Too bad the sound is so muffled. Wish they'd remix it and rlease it on a boxed set.

This isn't off Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. The version of Witching Hour from that video was recorded in 1985 at Hammersmith which can be seen on the VHS Hell at Hammersmith.
This video is just their 1984 tour intro tape + studio recordings of both songs over the top of footage recorded just for the songs. None of this is an actual live concert.
So its actually the studio-version? I knew its a version from a record I have, so I figured it has to be the live thing. Havent listened to records for 15 years now... ;)

The first chorus at the start of the song where Cronos yells: "Hells breaking loose!!" looks like something out of a Dario Argento horror film; absolutely DEMONIC with the light shining up on only his evil looking mug and a faint shadow of Jeff behind him. And that wah wah on the guitar in the extro solo sends shivers up my spine. I'd love to know Jeffs guitar setup on that.

Not only that but Slayer's version is terrible. The voice is all wrong for this song. Tom should have sung the WHOAAA-OHH HELL BREAKS LOOSE!! part in his highest scream. Kreator's version, while not great either, is better than Slayer's hideously bad cover. And I like Slayer.
This is far, FAR from Motorhead. Most of MH's songs were just fast boogies. This is the brith of black/death metal. It may not suit todays standards of what DM/BM is now, but back then this was the most brutal **** anyone had ever heard, and it blew peoples minds.

Man who cares about genres? Its the music that matters. To me personally, Venom is a heavier version of what Misfits were doing in punk, the imagery is about the same except perhaps not as much influenced by horror flicks as by satanic and the occult.
Venom at the heart of it, was a punk rock band that laid the template for thrash metal bands like Metallica and Slayer, who started playing more technical music than Venom. Venom were never meant to be amazing at their instruments.its attitude

Interesting point. I just thought a couple of minutes ago that this is what MC5 probably would have sounded like if they'd had their time ten years later. Just like Motörhead their riffs and harmonies are deeply based in classic 70s R'n'R but they're playing faster and way rawer. Awesome.

I wish this had better production. It is soooooo much better than the studio version....faster, more brutal.....with a much better tone from Jeff Dunn......This guitar sound set the standard for extreme metal. I like to refer to it as Satan's Chainsaw. The tone he gets at the start of the solo makes the hair on my arms stand up. And the extro as well (with the wah wah). Too bad the sound is so muffled. Wish they'd remix it and rlease it on a boxed set.

fleamarket in MD but its not on that one. Their albums are
kinda rare. Ive never come across one in AR where I live.

This isn't off Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. The version of Witching Hour from that video was recorded in 1985 at Hammersmith which can be seen on the VHS Hell at Hammersmith.
This video is just their 1984 tour intro tape + studio recordings of both songs over the top of footage recorded just for the songs. None of this is an actual live concert.

The first chorus at the start of the song where Cronos yells: "Hells breaking loose!!" looks like something out of a Dario Argento horror film; absolutely DEMONIC with the light shining up on only his evil looking mug and a faint shadow of Jeff behind him. And that wah wah on the guitar in the extro solo sends shivers up my spine. I'd love to know Jeffs guitar setup on that.

Not only that but Slayer's version is terrible. The voice is all wrong for this song. Tom should have sung the WHOAAA-OHH HELL BREAKS LOOSE!! part in his highest scream. Kreator's version, while not great either, is better than Slayer's hideously bad cover. And I like Slayer.

This is far, FAR from Motorhead. Most of MH's songs were just fast boogies. This is the brith of black/death metal. It may not suit todays standards of what DM/BM is now, but back then this was the most brutal **** anyone had ever heard, and it blew peoples minds.

No it wasn't. The studio version from Welcome to Hell is slower and much less "heavy" than this version. This version was from this video only. I wish I COULD get this on CD.
