  • The Truth,,The Whole Truth,,& Nothing But The Truth!!.....Good on ya mate!!

  • Cooksontrains first of all his name isn't Joe dumbass it's Billie Joe Armstrong and second of all he didn't butcher anything he knows how to play it and he rocks. That's why he's famous and ur not... PERIOD!

  • good job

  • aun recuerdo cuando te dije que hicieras tutoriales! haha ahora no los necesito pero es un gran aporte para todos aquellos que entran en el mundo de la musica :DD

  • Good job dude, you would think anyone who has the balls to post a video saying "how to play Blitzkrieg Bop" would get the rudimentary knowledge correct (Barre chords, downstrokes). A little while ago I cae across a kid who posted a video with that title who proudly displayed his power chord ability, so I posted a coment politely telling him that was for metal, not Ramones. Then I came across a grown man (an "expert") who said to "use a lot of alternate picking"! I was a bit ruder to him, lol.

  • @LetsGoMetsGo33

Thanks a lot for your comment! Yeah, sometimes those "how-to" videos can be pretty annoying lol!

  • @LetsGoMetsGo33 Arrrgh ! Je sais jouer tous les morceaux des Ramones avec les "power chords" parce que j'ai appris sur des tablatures en ligne. Quelqu'un peut me dire où je peux apprendre ces morceaux en accords barrés ?

  • @SpaceAce2704 Hows it goin Frenchy? I had to use Google translator to catch what you wrote. So, you're on the right video. Woody lays it out there, how to play barre chords. Try to learn to play the "A" and "D" barre chords from this video. If you can get it down, then you don't need new tabs, just read the ones you have, but substitute these newly learned chords for the power chords. 95% of Ramones guitar is a matter of playing these 2 shapes up and down the guitar neck.

  • Yes, most of the other tourentals are trash! Thx!

  • Nicely done. Thanks. Keep'em coming.

  • @SMMAB

    Thank you!

  • BRAVO!!!! WELL DONE!!! I'm so tired of seeing and hearing the majority of guitar players, playing these songs wrong. Ive never understood why people choose to take an already simple song and try to play them in what they believe to be a more simple style, while making the song sound like crap. GREAT JOB!

  • @sleeler69

Thanks a lot! That was exactly the reason why I made this tutorial. I have played with some very skilled guitar players (way better than me) but no one could do a decent version of this song;)

  • @sleeler69 And that includes green day guitarist joe...Not trying to insult the guy or his fans here. That's not my point. My point is simple. He did a Ramones cover and blew it big time.If you're going to do a cover/tribute.Do it right or don't do it.Period....Woody kicks ass.

  • Get in the CHOPPA!!!!!

  • @dgkallday228

    I'll be back... lol!

  • Am I the only one that heard Joey Ramone singing in my head to this?

  • great job woody!! 25 years later i bought 2 months ago an electric guitar, after my teenage guitars noises. and i enjoy playing your lesson.

    now i need an Eastwood!!!!!!!!

    really great lessons man.

  • @cristinacesaretti8

Thanks for your comment and happy playing:)

  • i have a different guitar but how do u make your guitar sound so perfect?

  • @MrShuffler2000

Must be the sound of the all-tube Orange Tiny Terror amp...

  • what an excellent lesson, I did wonder why it didn't sound right when I used power chords!

  • @jamesjonesrocket

Thank you! I wish I had more time to do more tutorials...

  • @woodyamsterdam How come so many people play the power chords over the barre chords, when the latter is the one that sounds (and is) right? Are the power chords just stripped down barre chords? I was first taught to play this song with only power chords, but with the option to make them barre chords. So I'm wondering why are there two "options" to play a simple song that would only combine the two.

  • @IAWAskater

Many people are taking the easy way and choose for power chords which are indeed stripped down barre chords. Mastering barre chords is somewhat more difficult but in the end they make a song easier to play -you're faster and more precise- and they sound better. At least for Ramones and other old school punk. Power chords are probably the better choice for hardcore and metal.

  • thank you very much ! i've been playing only power chords but with the bar chords it makes much more sense!but please, tell me how much strings you have to hit at the bar chords, cuz if i hit all 6 it sounds kinda messy...

  • @Night94Wolf

You're welcome. In a 6th string barre chord I usually hit the top 4 strings and in a 5th string barre the 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd string. (give or take...)

  • thank you and what guitar do you have? (;

  • @punksnotdead40

You're welcome and the guitar is an Eastwood JR-Elite. (Mosrite copy)

  • Great !

Where are the other tutorials ???

  • @MrFolloni

Time is not on my side unfortunately... But I've done also a tutorial on barre chords.

  • @woodyamsterdam

    I've seen it, it's also great !

Sometimes I see some people that strum the E string while doing 5th string barre (A). Do you know if it's correct ?

  • @MrFolloni

No, formally spoken you should mute the E when you're playing a 5th string barre.

  • Kinda sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger!!!!

  • @thomass7879

    "I'll be back"... lol!

  • great tutorial, now I understand the difference between a barred chohd and a power chord :)

  • I'm so weak in my ringfinger and I can't squeeze several strings at once -.- Is there any other way you can do that chord?

  • @xYum1x

Maybe the strings are too high above the neck because it shouldn't take a lot of force to fret the strings. You can work your way around by using the same shape for your middle, ring finger and pinky as for the 6th string barre, but then all fingers one string down. be careful only to strum the A, D and G string, otherwise you'll be playing a minor chord! But maybe your guitar only needs a good setup.

  • @woodyamsterdam It probably does, thanks a lot! :)

  • what is your settings of your amp??

  • @RafoRamone

Volume 2, tone 9.5, gain 9. (Orange Tiny Terror)

  • @woodyamsterdam great man, and hi mid and bass? please :D

  • @RafoRamone

The Tiny Terror has only one tone knob;)

(it's a VERY basic amp -3 knobs: volume-tone-gain- but it has a great overdrive sound)

  • This is great, really enjoyed it and definately needed to be done, especially by someone who knows what they're talking about (i've seen a few here on youtube, haha)

btw, i've said this before, you speak english better than some english people.

  • @ColonelBuckshot

Thanks! But you don't want to see the outtakes hahaha! Quite a nerve wrecking experience. I wanted to do a barre chords tutorial for about a week now, but every time something comes in between. Hopefully next week.

  • @woodyamsterdam - Haha, yeah that's life, but i'll look forward to the barre chords one.

  • Mart, it's a really good idea to make a tutorial for us.

  • @nikMartyr

Thanks! I was busy recording the next one today and then my neighbor starts working with his pneumatic drill while I was half way... :(

    Maybe Thursday.

  • Thanks for the tutorial Woody! I've had my guitar now for about three weeks but have had to take my amp back twice to be worked on so I haven't been practicing as much as I'd like. After watching your tutorial I now see all the mistakes I've been making with bar chords. I've fixed those mistakes and can't wait to plug in again to hear the results. Also can't wait for a tutorial from you on just bar chords!

  • @MiddleAgeLobotomy

You're welcome! The barre chords tutorial will come next week. I wanted to do it this week but the new Worktones collab came in between;)

  • @woodyamsterdam when you do barre chord tutorial could also talk about stamina, and kind of training we should do, cause when I play barre chords, the flesh under the thumb starts cramping. Really painful

  • @ZDALI14

If your thumb starts cramping, then you squeeze too hard. Possibly your strings are set too high or you just need to relax. If your guitar is setup well, it shouldn't require a lot of force to grab the barre chords.

Try to lower your strings as close as possible to the neck without causing string buzz.

  • Hey Woody. So..you're not doing Stones covers on the drums, but would you be down to cover a stones song on guitar? That would kick ass.

  • @leftoverblake

Not very likely... I did the Ramones version of Street Fighting Man though, does that count? lol!

  • TEACH US "I NEED YOUR LOVE" BY RAMONES PLEASE !

  • Thanks Woody, but where were you 15 yeas ago? :)

  • @MoonBurgle2

Fooling around on a drum kit, doing Stones covers with a friend lol!

  • fuckin legend

  • Nice Job as usual !I go to nobody else but you for the Ramones. Now tutorials are a big bonus! Thanks

  • @conagher29

    My pleasure;)

  • This will be a real step-up in the world of Ramones music in Youtube and your position here! Great!

  • @IJeskeI

    Thanks! I appreciate that.

  • Woody is a punk rocker.

  • Awesome job on the Ramones tutorials...I am a major fan and to find this was too cool for me...keep up the great work

  • @wolfchylde68

    More to come...:)

  • i feel an extreme pain on my index finger. Could you tell me how you avoid the pain of draging you index across the fret or are you even dragging your index when switching chords

  • @ZDALI14

You can not avoid that in the beginning, but after a few weeks your fingers will get used to it and the pain will go away. If I haven't played for a couple of weeks (vacation) I have to go through the same process again.

  • its always amazing that Johnny played all songs with down strokes, i find that so limiting!, cool tut though

  • I have a question, how I can improve my technique buzzsaw?

  • @CarlosThacker

Hard to explain in a few words, but it's a combination of strumming technique, amp settings and of course the guitar. I reckon an important factor is to be able to change chords fast, without breaks. I'll show you in a next tutorial.

  • Fucking great, you should be a guitar teacher!

  • excellent tutorial martin... you make it seem easy enough so even someone at my age might pick up a guitar and try to learn it.. but i know it's not that easy at all! and you have a good idea with these tutorials, everyone can benefit from them!

  • @gkoz791

    Thank you!

  • Barre chords, barre chords.

  • woww.. i'm sure that it will help a lot of people

    great idea man

    thank you

  • One thing I noticed: You don't stroke all the 6 strings that's it? The E string (the thinner) it's not stroked right?

  • @titanix2

That's correct. If I play Ramones I usually only strum the top 4 or 5 strings of the chord because it's fits the sound better. There are exceptions though, and that is what I meant when I said that a barre chord gives you much more tonal options than a powerchord.

  • Muito bom...assim fica fácil aprender

  • Great video, Woody! You took your time, explained what you were doing, AND emphasized proper technique. I wish more tutorials were like that.

Oh and I'd love to hear your thoughts on gear/tone... anything really, from strings to amps to stomp boxes. If you've got any advice/suggestions for a beginner or someone on a budget, that would be fantastic!

  • @superpoopoop

Thanks for your positive comment, so I know that I'm on the right path. I can't make any promises on other tutorials, because the Ramones tutorials are already very time consuming, but I'll certainly keep it in mind.

  • Cool, you are making lessons, Thats pretty sweet ;)

  • a tutorial.. i love the variety your coming up with... can we have a recording setup/tutorial/tips video?

  • @ALIENDOOKIE

I have considered that also but the problem is that it would only be interesting for those who have about the same setup or for those who are willing to spend a few hundred on additional equipment and software. I could make a short video though, just to show the basic principals.

  • I wonder, isn't the song in B?

By the way good job, although it was more than a Blitzkrieg Bop tutorial, cause you kinda forgot it until the fourth minute but it was ok. :)

    Keep doing videos, you're awesome.

  • @adamsmith13real

    Believe me it's in A;)

And the theory always comes before the practice hehehe... Thanks for your comment!

  • thats exactly how i feel, sooo many people play it with power cords not bare cords

  • @ItsAliveRamones

That's the reason that there are so many bad sounding Ramones covers on Youtube...

  • @woodyamsterdam Agreed :)

  • @woodyamsterdam what kind of strap locks do you have for your mosrite

  • @ZDALI14

The strap locks are incorporated in the strap itself, like adjustable clamps, so they fit on the standard strap connection points on your guitar. The brand is 'Planet Waves'.

  • yoohoo everybody rock on

    =)

  • hey hahah good tutorial Martin , you still rock \m/ hehe

  • I have to post again... You did a great job woody. A+ tutorial all the way. Your english was great, the flow of the video was great, and it is by far is the best Ramones tutorial out there! Great job, keep them coming! (If you can afford the time!)

  • @fatboySRK

Thanks for your input. As said, I'm kinda new to doing tutorials, so it's nice to hear that my message came through.

  • NICE WOODY! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GREAT Lesson Martin-BRAVO*****5+

  • great job man! I'm going to try this later today since I don't know the song yet. I'll have to tune my guitar back to standard though, it's currently in Drop B xD

  • @xXBr4ndonDXx

Drop B...:O You better watch the neck of your guitar not getting warped;)

  • I wish I had more lessons like this when I started playing guitar, you explain things really clearly (even though the song is really simple). You should make more :D

  • thats how johnny ramone had such a fat powerful sound , thick rich meaty barred chords from a 100 watt marshall plexi = crank to get johnnys tone , they had one loud fucking show i bet!

  • @ramoniac1951

Exactly! And I can assure you that those shows were very loud indeed. It usually took me 2 days to get rid of the ringing ears...

  • @woodyamsterdam yea man i had a marshall plexi 50 watt and that was way too much to handle , i cant imagine how loud their shows were with all those 100 watt heads johnny used ,, but i had the pleasure to meet arturo vega at warped tour like 5 years back , great times , but your videos are awesome and it seems like me and you are the only ones who play the songs correctly! cheers from minnesota mate!gabbagabba hey ,gabba gabba you!

  • proper lesson man , downstrokes and barred chords = real ramones props

  • awesome tutorial man, really useful, clear and easy to follow, definitely keep them up!

  • great lesson woody...i always thought Johnny just played normal power chords...UNTIL TODAY XD

  • Great Tutorial! What tutorial can be better then the master himself :)

  • Oh god... video added 40 minutes ago...

I started watching your Ramones covers 40 minutes ago...

Sweet. btw Great videos and quality ;)

  • @LangStrife

    Thanks!

  • awesome! i wish this existed when i started playing :) i have never played guitar in any style other than this :)

for the upcoming tutorials, palm-muting a la 'Sedated' and some sort of JR tone tutorial would be nice and helpful for the punkrock beginners.

  • I look forward to more of these tutorials.

  • Really sick!!!!! Great tutorial!
