  • Quake 1 just isn't the same with a cross hair

Quake 2? that is practically impossible without a crosshair

  • u werent fighting the strogg in quake 1. u were in hell

  • no i am right. it even says on the site that was on a long time ago. u were not in space quake 1 has nothing at all to do with 2.

  • wetears is right mate, don't go saying shit you don't really know aye. Quake 1 was based in hell, and had nothing to do with the strogg or whatever you call them. Quake was the evil force in quake 1, so by making quake 2, 3 and 4, they have just used the franchise name rather than what it actually is. The sequels have nothing to do with "quake".

I agree that quake 1 didn't have the biggest storyline, however they could've made it a lot bigger with sequels that made sense, not change in setting.

  • yeah and didnt quake turn out to be that dragon in dissolution of eterinty? (mission pack 2) and they shouldnt call quake 2 3 and 4 quake, they should call it strogg.

  • ahahah yeah, it would be a more suitable name... i guess they just wanted to milk the name without caring about their original fan base. I honestly had no idea what was going on with the mission packs. I never understood them, then again, i was pretty young at the time. I loved scourge of armagon though... loved the proximity mines!

  • haha yeah. i was too young and i havent played it in such a long time but i just hooked up my old computer in the basment and went back and started playing again.

  • i've always wanted more in quake 1. It frustrates me that they did not continue with the "hell" setting because it was so interesting. Every quake 1 fan would agree with me on that one

  • Absolutely. If I had more time and some mapping/modding skill I would gather some people and try to build a spiritual successor to Quake. Maybe as a Crysis-TC, I bet all those Lovecraftian settings would look great on the CryEngine 2 :D

  • oh god... i just jizzed i think. haha.

A more spiritual sequel would be awesome. If you think about it, the artwork and writing on the walls surrounding the quake 1 environment were very unworldly and actually scary.

I think they stepped back a bit and made quake 2 a bit more "childish" with simple monsters on mars.

Like in quake 1, you were actually interested in finding out how he got there (Through the REAL slipgates - made for hell).

Even the castle architecture was incredible

  • Also, the "minions" were very well designed. They weren't just 2 headed aliens, there were fiends, shamblers... even those fucken knights that shot flames from their swords - very out of this world creatures.

When you looked out the windows, and saw the purple skies blending into eachother, i would just sit there and stare straight into them. Seriously, i would stare out the windows until i got attacked.

I really loved the dark fantasy levels too - like the monasteries and citadels.

  • Oh yeah, the style and setting of Quake 1 was absolutely amazing (though I like the brutal scifi setting of Quake 2 and 4).

I would love to have a little more story and background about those slipgates, Quake and his lovecraftian army.

I think that the mindbending architecture Lovecraft wrote about would be possible to build, as it is possible to render a four dimensional hypercube and I think I saw a custom level once that had a hallway with more than four 90° turns :D

  • @fredmachine Really? i absolutely hated the setting of quake 2 and onwards - totally killed it with a very unoriginal storyline.

and about the four dimensional hyper-cube - if it exists, it can be created on a computer. Remember, computers just do what you tell them to do.

They kind of went through the storyline of slipgates a bit in the first one... but it could've been expanded on a bit more

  • Yeah, they had a little background in the first one, but it was more like an alibi, just to have something. The gamemaking process of Quake was pretty troubled, so I guess they had to make a lot of compromises to get the game done on time.

  • incredable video really cool quake1 is the greatest game ever made

  • the music is cool... this is a good way to show what quake is to 1st timers, love the humor...

  • yes it is

  • ya its the 1st ever quake

  • this isn't the actual quake ggame? is it?

  • yes it is you idiot!
