Its a shame really, everytime I hear the Joker's name its always refering to Heath Ledger, but seriously? He wasnt the Joker, he was a guy with makeup on that wasnt even applied properly. and people say that he was perfect? this is against Jack Nicholson portraying a psychotic, crimelord who has a great background who then loses his mind. Overall "Batman" was a much better film then "The Dark Knight" where the Joker commits crimes such as bank robberies? What the hell are people thinking?

@BANNANACENT I would have to argue that there is no 'perfect' version of Joker. He's more of an entity than an actual character, apt to spreading chaos and insanity wherever he goes. Ledger's was just a different take on what we were used to, and if you didn't like it, that's fine. The truth is they were both amazing actors trying to breathe life into a complex and iconic role. They just approached it differently.

@durburgle The Joker from "Killing joke", is the uncontested champion of them all... as for the actors portraying him, it is painfully obvious that it can only biased upon opinion and that no definitive conclusion could be found. That said, I cast my lot in favor of good ol Jack. For the record, I detest "Ledger's" body of work in it's entirety.

A Big Lipped Alligator Moment is when something weird that have NO PURPOSE to the movie shows up for a brief time and than, it passes without changing the story or even mentioned again in it. Just a random and useless thing to the movie.

While I think Ledger's nameless Joker was a good portrayal of "realistic" insanity, Nicholson's Napier turned Joker holds more true to the spirit of how he's supposed to be. Filming his own little psychotic commercial in one of his torture cubbyholes? He's got the dead models there with him, prancing around in a purple zoot suit as he crows to Gotham about their poisoned lipstick. Plus, his Joker is the kind to grab that seagull at 0:47, wad it into a ball and throw it at the ocean backdrop.

This perfectly demonstrates why I prefer this version of the Joker over the Ledger's. He's supposed to put laughter in manslaughter. Ledger did a fine job of portraying the psychopath part of the Joker but he wasn't funny. What makes a good Joker is, at first you laugh and than you're like "Why am I laughing? The people are dead, this is horrible". The Ledger's Joker did only the "The people are dead, this is horrible" part.
