I think I've been to this exact Visco...I am nearly certain where it is, too. Unless this is a different one, isn't this in the vicinity of Center Kita/Tama Plaza in Yokohama?
Interesting that "retro" gaming is popular enough to actually have brick n' mortar businesses in Japan! I wonder how much of that merchandise actually moves. Either that, or it's super cheap to own a physical business in Japan.
Nick DeBarres the Japanese correspondent for Play magazine says that when shopping in japan always use the change dish located on the counter instead of passing money hand to hand."NEVER directly hand the clerk money" he say's. Now, I always thought this was due to germ-phobia, but this video shows that any snot-nosed kid off the street can just pick up a controller and try games. Does someone sanatize the controllers after use? or are peolpes idea of modern japan just out-dated. Anyone?
lukemorse1 investigative reporter!Nice vid man.Loved how you snuck that camera in.If I was there right now my wife would end up leaving me from all the money I would spend.
The whole time you were in there, trying not to get caught with the camera, I kept thinking of Monty Python's Life of Brian. "You've been f*cking nicked, me beauty." LOL!
Great video Luke! I've recently been devouring all your videos where you venture into these shops, and Hard Off. It's so interesting checking out how everything is in that part of the world, and Holy Cow does it beat the pants off Game Stop.
I love Eastern stores doesn't matter if they are in Japan,Taiwan wherever they all seem to have that market stall feel.Beats the crap out of the UK and our souless atmosphere free shops
both.I used to follow vids by a biker in Taiwan.Doesn't really matter what country you could add Vietnam into that list as well they all have that same look and feel that you get walking through a market
Loved the Bleach game you pointed the cam on. Why are the shops being stricter with the filming? I though it would be publicity for tourists to visit the mecca of gaming that is Japan.
Not sure how their "dollars and cents" work over there. If one yen is like a penny, then there isn't that much of a difference. However, by what I've seen in some of Luke's videos, I don't think this is the case. I'm guessing 1 yen is their "dollar" I remember the guitar was about 126000 yen and he said it was around 1300 or 1500 bucks. If this is the case, then the dollar is worth much more than the Yen, which is what I think is actually true. I'm not entirely sure though.
Phasing out older games to make room for the newer stuff? Sounds like the Japanese equivalent of GameStop. That does suck that they don't accept cards, although I'm sure that if I'm ever in Japan I'd have to check a lot of these stores out.
lol i really need to take a vacation to japan for 2 weeks and spend all my money on Hard Off and Visco and then i cant get home because my money would be gone. :P
