The officer knew or should have known that tasing the man would cause him to clench up and fall either onto the roof/ledge he was standing on or to the pavement. Is it just me or are cops giving themselves a bad name more and more? A 21 year old Veteran made this judgment call? I'm just an engineering student and I would never order another human being to taser a mentally ill distraught person. WTF? This is common sense to me. They should have place matresses, a dumpster or send a cop in gear down the fire escape while asking the mother to communicate with her son. Fucking stupid cop.

NYPD Lt. Pigott, who ordered the Taser, was so distraught over the victim's death that he committed suicide. Obviously he did not mean to kill the victim. However, a person of reasonable intelligence should have been able to foresee that result. The problem: Lt. Pigott was obviously NOT a very smart man. If "stupid is as stupid does" then Pigott had no business being promoted to supervise anything but a broom and mop. Cops don't have to be smart but maybe supervisors should.

Then he was holding that pole as a weapon. The officer knew or should have known that tasing the man would cause him to clench up and fall either onto the roof/ledge he was standing on or to the pavement. Did the officer take any precautions in case the man fell to the pavement? Obviously not. His use of the taser was reckless and without regard for human life.

I jumped for joy at news of the crash air france flight 447. I love watching the plane sink to its watery grave. I enjoy hearing the passengers screaming for help. The sound of drowning passengers gasping for air is music to my ear. The bottom of atlantic ocean is an awesome place to sleep on. The moment the jet broke up in midair must have been a kodak moment. i knew the guy personally,i am best friends with his little brother danny.they shouldnt have used the tazer without the proper safety. when cops are being trained it is told to them that they are not to use a tazer on a suspect if they are on an elivated level.even iftwo feet or ten.AND they r supposed to have some sort of net or cushion below if they are to use it. the cop who gave the oder to the acting officer was not supposed to send out the order to use the tazer.

the nypd history had shown that police officers would abuse their power. about 20 years ago nypd were issue stun guns these were use for turture purposes by police, they were quickly taken away. now the name has change to taser, the officer that gave the order to use the taser has commited suicide on the morning of oct 2 08, nobody wanted this kind of justice for this officer, but he was going to be charge with murder, so i heard. what a sad end!

Peter,I realty Doubt ANY cop would be charged with Murder,Cops get away with "MURDER" and/or any other form of abuse in between in this Country with a National Police Force. In the "Performance of his/her duty" a cop is fucking exempt from legal reprisal. Even when they go to trial/it's NEVER a jury,it's a judge who is in on the "Action" that is brought before them.Cops are the "Salesmen" for the Show-room(the Courts)and a proscecutor does a flimsy job in court against a Cop,purposefully.

The best part about this, is that there are jr. highschools and highschools in pennsylvania that are trying to allow their dumb ass security guards carry around tasers.
The cop that killed himself more than likely would have been fired or suspended for improper use of the taser, in my opinion.
Cops aren't supposed to use the taser if it may warrant death by falling, or any other means.
