well, ammonium nitrate by itself is a respectable explosive, with a VoD of around 5400 metres per second, but it is incredibly hard to detonate so by mixing it with sentitizers, it gets easier to detonate and may or may not increase the VoD such as nitromethane and ammonium nitrate or acetone peroxide and ammonium nitrate, there are numerous amounts of combos.

@Anarchary101 Hey, ammonium chlorate and perchlorate is a lot easier to get detonated. It will go on a simple blasting cap. And there is also ammonium permanganate: Its so easy to detonate that it is considered a primary explosive!

Havent read about ammonium dichromate or persulphate.

pure NH4NO3 can be set off by detonation, only it's very difficult, and not as powerful as ANFO or watergels etc.

ANFO should not be made to a solid. When they use it in mining it is made to a milkshake like texture that they call a strawberry milkshake because of the red diesel that they use. They then inject into the holes. They use electronic blasting caps because ANFO takes an impact to detonate. The easiest way to set it off is to shoot it with a 22.

A .22 won't do it. Actually a magnum rifle won't do it. You need to add a sensitizer, such as potassium perchlorate. Then it works with large rifles.

Mercury fulminate is actually a very stable primary, but personally I use DDNP. The only two explosives I don't touch are AP and NG.

Do the countless NG manufacturing plants that blew up a century or two ago demonstrate nothing about it's unpredictability? Nobel himself lost his brother that way IIRC. These were experts that made the stuff. It's also extremely sensitive if it freezes and not nice to store unless stabilized. Not to say it can't be manufactured saftely, but considering the alternatives (PGDN, ETN, PETN) it's an unnecessary risk.

well the MEKP was not dehydrated in a dsicator so it had moister in it. i had socked 3 ml of MEKP in the AN and then after a minut or two detonated it

i putted it in a plastic tube but i hadnt squeezed it so i guess that just 5 + - grams had been detonated
