It is a state of the art F1 style shifter tranny. Like they use now on the ferraris and lambos only built up to withstand more power. You can get a sports compact with the shift-tronic gearbox which in a way is the same thing only alot slower and more fragile.

Not sure about the valve body part but it is a manual transmission either air or electricly shifted. 1000hp would be about 850whp and if it weighs say 1200kg he's actually running good mph, just needs to get away a bit harder.

The car has an air shifter, which means you press the button and it does full power gear changes for you, no need to press the clutch or throttle off. The reason it's raced like that is because it's quicker than changing gear by using your hands and feet, also the boost doesn't drop as much, which means quicker ET's and higher Terminals.
