My dad has cancer and has anywhere from a month to a year to live. I spend as much time in the present as possible. However, sometimes I like to listen to this song while I remember the wonderful times we shared together. It is so soothing. I'm going to miss you dad.
@jimdism I lost my father to cancer when i was 8 years old everyday I take some time to remember a man I never truly got to know, cherish the moments you have and have had you only get one dad and although I barely knew mine I miss the man everyday and just wish I had 5 minutes with him to say goodbye
I saw the cannes cut, no in cannes but in my living room, it was the first time I saw the movie it was on pay tv, since then every time its been on its been the cut version.
CAnnes cut version is much more moving as the best scenes go for heaps long
like wen the rock is driving away from mandy moores house in the thunder and lightening but no rain.
This movie blew me away. I've heard people talk about it and call it insane, and when I finally saw it I had my jaw dropped literally the entire time. I went out and bought it the next day.
I honestly don't know how to feel about Southland Tales. I guess the best way to describe it is I wanted to love it, but it was just a bit to scattered for me to get all the way there. It had some unique ideas and was a really cool ride. But in the end it couldn't bring it all together. This song and Justing Timberlake singing the Killers were definitely the highlights.
@Russbear That's how I felt after the first time I saw it. A few months went by, and I just had the urge to see it again. And after that second viewing I loved it. And today, after having watched it for the fourth time last night, I'm still getting more out of it. It really is a diamond in the rough, and it's so well produced that I think it's accessible to most audiences, if they'd just give it a chance.
It is an absolutely gorgeous song, but Moby could have lent his talents to a better film. This end-of-the-world liberal wet dream called Southland tales is your typical "aren't humans the worst thing ever?" trash. For one, it is based on scientific premises that are absurd, such as the idea that ocean currents have anything to do with the rotation of the earth. What crap...If I watch one more movie about how humans (but never Leftist humans!) will destroy us all, I think I'm going to puke.
I listen to this song everyday on my way to work, Im starting a career. It instills that perfect inspirational mindset. I find days I dont listen to it, the mornings are almost 10 times worst than normal. That is how you know something is truly art.
Last night the world was meant to end (according to some guy, not me!), and I remember having watching the southland tales and the voice over saying that we can be rest assured that nobody rocks the cock like Krista Now…and I mean nobody! The world never ended so I watched southland tales, really moving scene with the memory gospel dancers and Krista and Madeline realising that Jericho was gonna die as were they, it was a point of realization
I see this movie as one of the biggest parodies about Hollywood. Take all the dribble that the Academy and average viewer gobbles up, religion, predictions of an Orwellian future, time travel (Kelly laughing at himself, I think), political conspiracy and more, and toss it into an overly-convoluted film.
I don't think Kelly was saying anything more than, "STOP ALL THIS CRAP". Many think it's a confusing mess, others think it's prophetic and misunderstood genius.
Master Piece. God bless ambitious directors, Kelly, Lynch and others. Insipid Hollywood need them. They won't find a public in USA ( formatted dumb public ) but they'll always touch the heart of the real buffs.
@nicktroppi There is a significance with the movie involving the end of the world - told through the Book of Revelation's in a scientific way. The movie was fantastic and very unique. It too took me a time to figure the plot and meaning behind the film. Overall, Richard Kelly did a suberb job directing/writing this film and should be creditied more for the diversity it shown. Truley a classic in my eyes and a film that couldn't be re-done.
I first heard this on a boat trip on Puget Sound-I think KCMU-out of Seattle. A group of us were soaking up the sun for a bachelor party and it was a great time-never forget it. The song just captured the few hours we had together-what a truly beautiful piece of art.

Kazuya: and wait till she comes back.

This is a Moby song pal :). It was in Ali (2002) the Michael Mann film 5 years before Southland. Michael Mann likes to use Moby as well. So this is actually an older song.
I believe people are forgetting the movie "get carter" a great movie, just the fact this song was used in the beginning. it is amazing how just a soundtrack or song can make something so inspirational
I always tell people the same thing: One of my favorite films, superb in writing, acting, directing, story, atmosphere and soundtrack - The Jacket. It's a stunning movie and it's sadly over looked.
I really believe that one day we will look back at this film if we haven't already and truly appreciate the work and artistic beauty that was instilled into it. Nobody wants to try and understand something unless it has already been understand, given the effort, somebody will inspire others to do so.
@dblue2010 How does sex between two cars rank as artistic beauty? I've watched the film three times and love the concept, but it lacks cohesiveness. It could have been a great movie but it just died in direction.
@japandata Perspective. Cohesiveness, in its purest form is understood in a variety of ways. You see two cars having sex, grantit, I see two cars in this movie and look at it in my own way. Suspension of reality, what you perceive as 'car sex' is a suspension of reality, a metaphor for a more meaningful aspect.
@dblue2010 How does sex between two cars rank as artistic beauty? I've watched the film three times and love the concept, but it lacks cohesiveness. It could have been a great movie but it just died in direction.
@dblue2010 Great comment. I truly believe that, of all the films to come along, this one actually defines the decade. It says SO much about our society and what we went through, from 9/11 on. Makes me so sad that it is so misunderstood and unappreciated.
@dblue2010 it's ultimately a very frustrating film...it felt like someone gave david lynch the wrong acid the whole time i was watching it...it certainly had it's moments.
the end of the world was just around the corner, and i was trying to save it, i had the power of a god, and i was lucid in the dream these begins were trying to destroy the face of the earth by blowing up volcanos to make them active, i was lifting icebergs with my mind to block the exploding volcanos. i danced to this song just like this film before i went to war. lucid dreaming has so much more potential than the so called real world, maybe i'm lost forever

Southland Tales should have won the Oscar for beat Pic, and the Rock for Best Actor, Timberlake for Best Supporting. Timberlake can do anything. The Rock is a great actor!
Are you serious?...Southland Tales was a great film, I agree, but it was great because of certain scenes combine with an outstanding soundtrack. Artistic glimpses shone through, but not nearly enough to win the film such an award. The Rock was mediocre, Timberlake did well, the dark comedy was not so great and some of the scenes were completely unneccessary. However, because of Lou Pucci's AMAZING performance along with Moby's soundtrack - it made the film very entertaining and enjoyable.
The Rock made most of the film for me, he was the perfect stereotypical action hero. Every cliche action hero you can think of was in his persona.........and you know he was a pimp, and pimps do not commit suicide.
Moby wrote it and you can find it on the Southland Tales album, and you can find it all over the internet such as here, and most likly limewire and mp3 rocket hope that helps.
love love love love this movie...if u watch it and REALLLY listen to what they say u will understand. if u dont then ur just fucked hahaha its guna be confusing
Hated the movie the first time I saw it, but couldn't get it out of my head. Then watched it again and again. It's the most underrated, hated, movie that I totally love. If they could have gotten rid of the cars having sex scene then this would be my altime pick.
Saw Southland a little more than a year ago for the first time and just so happened to do so on an eighth of psilocybin mushrooms. The two together created something beyond my explaining, but that experience was beautiful. I'm bummed it gets such a bad rap. This film has a lot of strange deep meaning and it's trying to say a lot, and it'll take forever before it's really appreciated.
it was a kind of odd and 'trippy' movie i guess. i sort of looked at it thinking 'this is shit' but it was incredibly captivating and i never changed channels for the remainder of the movie.
I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!
Hear on the CBC 'Q' radio programme, and much loved.... calming, perfect -- repition is not a bad thing, but rather peaceful. In these troublous times, we need more of this. Less edgy stuff
it was a mess but i agree wit keeping you guessing the whole way through. i kept watched cause i wanted to see how it ends. its one of those movies that your thinking wat the feck is going on and it all makes sense in the end
Couldn't agree more, it was all over the place but oddly riviting so I had to see it through and i thought it was great!..... I got goose bumps during the 'memmory gospel' bit... Ace.
Word. My theory is that it's an indirect sequel to Donnie. msg me if you want to discuss, but it's my own personal opinion.
The film is garnering huge cult following. I had the pleasure of seeing it in theaters with other Kelly fans, and I've never seen perfect strangers have a long conversation after a movie about it's meaning. Something about this film does captivate. To me this makes Richard Kelly quite a unique storyteller.
i loved the film and i love tsi track..best track from the film...i love it when its used at the end when Sarah m geller and the rokcs other wife are dancing together...its adds gfd emotion to the scene...awsome film
Hate me if you want, but for some movies, I watch them for there music. I love the movie Southland Tales though. I like the fact that its from the same guy who wrote/directed Donnie Darko. Great film.
I don't undersdtand why people hated this movie. It was really well written, shot and edited. It kept you guessing the whole way through and had an absoloutly brilliant ending. LOVE DIT!
This song was the only thing keeping me from turning off the movie. That movie was crazily horrible. But then they all got blown up at the end. I laughed.
keepersad is right, it was from an Adidas commercial back in 1999 (not too far off), that's when I fell in love with the song too. The commercial series itself was called "Take"
i love the soundtrack and i love the il. unlike alot of people i do lovve the film ,alot of ppl dont like it, i understand, but watching the film, well for me, just showed me the great potentail richard kelly has, and i felt as if i was cruising or floating by as all these events were happening the film was amazing in my opinion, and the soundtrack is one to put on my ipod, thanks man!
a mind is like a parachute, if it s not open it s not gonna work
you need to understand that before to watch that movie...if you can't
i fell petty for you

Moby wrote it and you can find it on the Southland Tales album, and you can find it all over the internet such as here, and most likly limewire and mp3 rocket hope that helps.

I think the music had a part to play in that.

Southland Tales had such an amazing soundtrack. Rebekah Del Rio did great in the Star Spangled Banner scene, too.
This is, without any doubt, my favorite track from that film.
Beautiful.

LOVE DIT!

*SPOILERS*
This song was the only thing keeping me from turning off the movie. That movie was crazily horrible. But then they all got blown up at the end. I laughed.

keepersad is right, it was from an Adidas commercial back in 1999 (not too far off), that's when I fell in love with the song too. The commercial series itself was called "Take"

This song has been around for awhile. Do a google search for Moby's album 'Play'. You might be suprised.
