  • Thumbs up for traditional grip!

  • Don't talk shyt! show us a kit that sounds good then!

  • fools..

  • what are those colored cymbals for

  • @cpmeeter2 they're just electrnic cymbals. not sure what they actually sound like though.

  • Well for one, I like this sound: It's new and different. Surely not suitable for every situation but imo no reason to trash it like most people are doing here.

Angelo06938457 Saying that Mr Calhoun needs more practice is very funny, as in: snow is black, garbage smells nice, things like that.

Dietmarkkohler Open your ears and learn that some garbagecans actualy sound very nice, same as trafficsigns, pots, sheets, tubes or pieces of metal. Percussion => beating on stuff; ANY kind of stuff.

  • mein mülleimer klingt besser als diese toms!!

  • doesn't sound very good at all. this guy needs a lot more pratice, his drums sound way out of tune. i am not very impressed at all. i my self am a drummer and i can tell when a drum kit sounds good and when it sounds very much out of tune, and this one in my opinion didn't sound like it should.

  • @angelo062367 "i my self am a drummer and i can tell when a drum kit sounds good and when it sounds very much out of tune"

Well, aren't you just a speshul widdle snowfwake.

  • is that Carl Albrecht at 1:27?

  • He was Great in Living Colour.....However this is very er em er S--T

  • I want to think north indian when I see and hear this; but the rhythm wouldn't match up with that.

  • @JazzieIQ This rhythm feels more like a half time calypso or just a caribbean type vibe.

  • This kit is amazing for the essence that Will wanted to pass through..don't be so close minded persons! Not only the tight Kit sounds good!See other videos..Not the same tuning..He WANTED to get that kind of sound ;)

  • I like the sound of the kit! Thank you!

  • haha that was fun! I've liked WC since first time I heard "cult of personality". There is always something happening when he does his voodoo!

  • That kit sounds like shit

  • @godzillafireman i actually really liked the way his kit sounds. it does have sort of a tribal, goatskin sound.

  • He customize his kit influenced by weed

  • his drum kit was inspired on a shade of weed

  • What the HELL is the padded drum? I think I saw a guitar ad for something that looked like it that mentioned he uses it.. Gonna look that up soon. Anyone know anything about the fluorescent pink and green cymbals?

  • @dabestmaygn Solo at the begining is on an original Korg Wavedrum with DigiTech looping gear for real time compositions.

The colored Cymbals are Pintech Visulites, used to trigger different sounds adn samples.

The pink pad to his right is a Mandala pad by Synesthesia...Danny Carey uses these as well.

Caught Living Colour last year at a sweet small venue and they were killer! Will's solo was astounding...the last 8 minutes were played in complete darkness with a pair of Vic Firth Lite Stix.

  • I think that music is the utimate weapon for torture in vietnam

  • those drums were sounding ultra old school jazz...but I dug it

  • HORRIBLE TOMS!!

  • where can i buy one of those practice whua pad?

  • @efvio It's called the Korg Wavedrum. Google it, I'm sure you can find it.

  • Brilliant. Out there shooting the curl ,LOVE it.

  • looks like vater to me

  • thats not an evans logo dudes

  • /watch?v=PCIOhtVsGmg

  • calhoun wins.

  • Very unique, I'll give it that, but this is really not my cup of tea. I don't like how this guy has to make the drums just random noises.

  • Check out SoulDrummers . com

  • Very unique performance...PERSONALLY i think the drums sound like ass...especially the snare...it must be intentional, it's got a trigger on it! At least he's thinking outside the box. I wonder how good those double bass pedals are

  • @Vicfirth7b

thats a mic, not a trigger

  • @DrumCoalitionWithWar No Sir, That's a Roland Trigger. He's got Shure's on the rack toms and I saw possibly an Audix D2 some the lower toms. The trigger kinda looks like an Audix D1 but you can definetly see the Roland mark on it, plus its square. Also, how often do you see ANYTHING else on a snare other than a sm57?

  • @Vicfirth7b

    your right my bad haha

  • will made a cd , ´homework`in 1994 . still one of my faves . from art blakey to african tribe & even unknown instruments he shows a wide range of his skills. (loved living colour , too !)

  • jungle beats are well nice...

  • I want to hear those neon things!

  • Sci-Fi Jamaica!

He came from the future to make weird things, smoke spliffs and plays really good drums.

  • i love how it looks black heads in yellow drums

  • His kick drums might as well be floor toms XD But This guy is really unique and flat out awesome!

  • thats so sick the way he had the whammy or wah, whatever it was, it was friggen awesome

  • was the first thing he was using a theremin?

  • finally , something original and musical at a modern drummer fest..not just blinding speed and chops and boring technique..wil is the man..great drummer, but most importantly, great MUSICIAN !..you hear that kids ?..not JUST drummer, but M-u-s-i-c-i-a-n

  • awful, awful tom sound

  • i like his double pedal

  • that sound on that tom is the mic lying on the head itself. thats the techs fault for letting that happen.

  • that second rack tom sounds funny to me....

  • I love this instrument.

  • I may be wrong, but are those heads being covered by those muffler things? Ive seen em in my loacl music store. Theyre black covers you place over your drum heads to greatly muffle the sound so its not too loud in your house or something. Maybe thats what they are?

  • Naw man those are the new heads by remo.....it like the ebony head but different a flat color. on his toms and kick he got on the remo suede and on his snare he got on the black x the same one i got sounds great and last longer.

  • it's just a very think piece of rubber kind skin that silence your kit. not good. totally kills the sound.

  • i kinda liked the sound of it

the deep thud kind of made it seem more.... native?

i dont think thats what im trying to say but whatever

  • the black skin he is using is just painted black. that's all.

  • theyre remo ebony heads. they come black and are meant for jazz

  • There the type of head he uses, prob. Remo Black Suede Ambassador heads... if they were mufflers they wouldn't make the sound they do.

  • that green is a little plexiglass splash?!?!?!?!

  • alien disc. Will's own model by sabian

  • that's not an alien disc. those bright pink and bright green things are definitely something else. the alien discs are all stacked up vertically on the very right of his kit

if anyone knows what those acrylic/plexiglass looking things are, i'd love to know

  • @SW1 I think they are triggers of some sort, I was wondering myself, he seems to be using a lot of triggered drum sounds, those green & pink cymbals are prolly just triggers, I didn't see them on the Nord site though..

  • @SW1 The coloured discs are triggers/samplers. Saw them live a few months ago and found out :D

He uses them for the Cult of Personality stuff, etc. So cool!

  • Very "Living Color-ish"!

  • hippy

  • ...maybe triggerin' something...

  • heads looks like the mesh (practice) heads...sounds like them anyway .) great drummer!!!

  • what are those cymbals? the green and the red, looks like a electronic drum cymbal.i never seen things like these before,

excuse me for my bad english

  • you are correct regarding the red and green cymbal triggers. i don't remember their brand, though. and your english is just fine, my man!

  • awesome drummer and I love living color but the drums are tuned weird or something. hollow. don't like it. very original musician though, great.

  • yeah they sound really strange :S

  • who the hell is this guy he is sick

  • I only like the snare and the cymbals. But he has such great hand speed and skill. impressive.

  • toms sounds horrific thats my opinion lol

  • will has always wanted to be different i think thoe whole drumming thing for him is being unique and just doin wacky things hes good though hes got good technique just the kit is kinda wierd but ehh everybody is unique

  • this guy right here is trying to be the jonny greenwood of drumming with that whammy. and yeah i do think his toms sound like a they belong on a display children's kit in the type of little music store that smells like incence and sells neon green dean guitars. you know what kind i'm talking about.

  • his toms sound like a moaning donkey

  • @patman173 and what do yours sound like ?. a cat in a garbage disposal ?

  • @blica1 not at all

  • @patman173 u r so right that sound is hilarious

  • @patman173

    cause there evans

  • @Jabarichonicles Evans makes great heads, including heads that are extremely hard to tell apart from the best remo's. This sound has more to do with the way he's got the toms tuned as well as the mic placement/mix.

  • @Proghead88

well that too...im not a big evans fan as u can prably guess...

  • @patman173 But his technique is a little bit better than the sound, isnt it? :-)

  • @oskarveliky well of course everything is good, except the drums sound a bit nasty.

  • @patman173 It's more loose than Katy Perry's vajayjay!

  • JAAAH RASTAFARII:-DDDD

  • JAAAAAH RASTAFARI:-DDD

  • What are his bass pedals? they are like... crooked? thats kinda weird

  • Sleishman pedals =)

  • @lambheartslayer They my sir are called Sleishman Twin Pedals. They, Surprisingly were the first twin pedals invented :)

  • I think its quite chatchy don't you tink

  • ive got his drum sticks :D:D amazing drummer exp when watched live

  • His set sounds shit

  • Awesome drumming! Horrible sound! Wow! How did Will agree to play w/that crappy sound?

  • because he want it that it sounds like this !!

  • Part of it is the pedals and other electronics he has connected to the drums through mics. Later in the night for his performances, they sound normal.

  • Anyone know what he's playing on in the beginning, to establish the loop?

  • it is called a wavedrum. it is basically a roland pad that goes through a drummodule and a wah wah pedal. you can bend the pitch

  • Thx QB

  • well, it's not a wah pedal, it's a digitech whammy that's changing the pitch

  • oh, well i am not a guitarist. thanks for correcting me. it is a cool device.

  • i think the toms sound cool to this kind of music in the background...

  • yeah hes an amazing drummer... but i dont know about those toms...

  • I was this live , the toms sounded fine at the show

  • his toms sound like shit

  • rare pedals

  • Pretty unique. What is the neon green thing?

  • I have no idea?!?!

  • Might just be an electronic drum cymbal, like in a traditional electronic drum set, but made of coloured plastic..

  • It is a trigger. just like a gum pad. It just looks flashy. That is because he uses it ;)

  • a elecyronic cymbal color means sound

  • @GaryCancer and the red one lol

  • @GaryCancer i'm pretty sure there cymbal trigger pads

  • @GaryCancer i think its a trigger. the neon is just for looks.

  • @GaryCancer A trigger!

  • @GaryCancer some kind of electronic disk. i think. but it just sounded like plastic. so i dunno

  • @GaryCancer

    I think it's a trigger

  • @GaryCancer its his signature cymbal... sounds like dick lol

    he is amazing though lol

  • This is a great drummer

  • anyone else notice that he's playing remos? and hes sponsored by evans. poopity poopity on him

  • Anyone notice that this toms sound like crap? Excellent playing, but whoever tuned his toms needs his head examined.

  • I think that's HIS sound of toms, but for me it's crappy too..

  • he's using some sort of effect to make his toms sound shitty like that. at first they sounded sick. but, i agree, they do sound like shit with the effect.

  • yeah, the heads on it are not good. Remo has not done a good job on the ebony suede series.

  • As far as I can tell, it's less to do with the heads and more to do with the tuning. They seem very high and brittle. I imagine the Black Suedes can sound clear and punchy if you tune them right. Having never tried them, I can't say for sure.

  • Just had a watch of the rehearsals on here and the toms don't sound that bad there, it must have something to do with post production

  • hes also endorsed by Sabian and if im not mistaken one of the cymbals at his right is a Hammerax

  • Dude's freaking amazing!
