It is interesting to see all the different tried-and-true designs used in this new instrument. Besides the Encore/Engelhardt banjo, etc. the roll frame is a copy of Western Electric, while the piano back, bass drum beater, tambourine, and castanets all appear to be Seeburg. The triangle beater looks like Nelson-Wiggen. The snare drum dual-beater action seems inspired by Coinola, while the drum itself (a banjo pot) is close to the original Banjo-Orchestra.
The Ramey Banjo certainly is of a high quality construction. The song "Orange Blossom Special" really sounds super. Who is the arranger of this song? Hope to hear more songs on this great orchestrion in the future.
Colberg110: I would suggest you watch all 8 chapters of "MARVELS OF MECHANICAL MUSIC" on YouTube. I think you will then agree that the MBSI collections in the videos are composed of ALL TYPES OF MECHANICAL MUSIC.
MBSI is devoted to all automatic musical instruments. The focus was originally musical boxes but was soon broadened and MBSI grew into the largest organization of its kind in the world. IMO AMICA is more narrowly focused (on pianos) than MBSI. A recent MBSI magazine had a 25 page article on the Welte firm, and articles on an Imhof & Mukle orchestrion, and a 92 key street organ. MBSI's name is misleading. As the home page at MBSI-dot-org shows, it encompasses all mechanical music-even pianos!
The Ramey Banjos are much more impressive when you hear one live in a mechanical music collection. The Musical Box Society (MBSI) is the organization to join if you would like to enjoy these types of machines in person.
Just another banjo player with no teeth!

Art Reblitz is my great uncle, and he fixes all kinds of music machines, and composes rolls for each one.

Reading my response I don't want to imply that either organization is better than the other. They both deserve to be supported.
