  • Strangely, it is NOT a medaeval song. It's early American poem written in New England in the 18th Century and only set to music in this version by Elizabeth Poston who lived from 1905-1987 so in this setting it's quite modern. There are NUMEROUS era-appropriate Christmas songs that should/could be sung for Madrigal singers.
