If you remember, it was Reagan who made the case for increased military spending to stem the "soviet military threat". Hollywood even came out with Red Dawn - the Russians invading US from the sky. How on earth did Reagan get credit for ending the cold war? Regan showed up for the speech. He lied about the true military power and the true motivation of the Soviets, who as it turns out, were in no shape to present a danger to the US. The people who got rid of communist party rule in Russia didn't give a tinker's damn about anything Regan said. Reagan was an opportunist - giving a speech on international TV. He did nothing that caused the USSR to fall.
