@InsuperiorTorment - Yeah, I guess everyone wants to defend "their thing", and is focused on what's so special about it. But it shouldn't make you blind to really good dancing in a different style. (Plus all salsa dancing has its roots in Son, I'm pretty sure that's why NY dancers dance on 2 in the first place!)
This is wonderful stuff - I've been a hard core lindy hop/balboa/shag dancer some years back before becoming disillusioned with the swing dancing scene. I've been looking for a new dance to learn, and this looks FANTASTIC.
@InsuperiorTorment - why peculiar? I have a friend who is as experienced in swing as I am - he is a passionate tango dancer as well. Good dancing is good dancing, and if you have an open mind and you like the music, you can get into it. I loathe contemporary salsa music, so I won't go down that road, but trad. Cuban music is delightful to my ear.
the reason i said it is peculiar is because of the whole contemporary salsa music thing... I would figure someone from a swing background (keep in mind I don't know much about swing) would be more drawn to that.
The beauty of this dance as opposed to "NY on2" or "LA style" or whatnot is that these other styles were created in an acamedy, while Son is really the dance of the people, that's the way I see it.
