Damn BBC America needs to bring this show to the USA!!!! He is an amazing performer and this looks F%&king incredible. We need to do a writing campaign or something to get it on. You can write them on their website.
I am an American and a solid Tennant fan, partly because of his work not related to a certain TV show. As a widow, I can tell you his performance was as real as it gets. I watched him carefully. *That* is the face of real grief. I loved every minute of it and cannot recommend it enough. As of this show if was not convinced in the pat he is a genius (and I was!) ...I am now.
Thanks for not mentioning that other show. Kick-ass though it may be, it's time to move on. That being said, it looks good. I'd love to see this in America, mainly because I'd love to see David Tennant in something other the other show that shall remain nameless.
@ZOINKSation They had all voted for their favourite name to call their new dog. Lucy had voted for 'Buster' and after the decided name was announced she asked "How many votes did Buster get", one of her brothers replied "One", but the other cut in and said "No, zero point five, half sister only gets half a vote". So understandably she gets upset :)
hey man i am a huge david tennant fan, and i am wondering if i can watch the T.V show on BBC america?? im in america and i have no problem watching it online but its better for me to watch it on the tv :) thanks
@theman8699 Hmmm, well i'm not the best person to ask but all i can say is wait for BBC America to show it. I'm sorry i can't be more help, but i really don't know =\
I don't intend to do anything cruel but Single Father is half as good as Davids previous project I am sorry to say that but its good because of the children except for the end of Episode 2
Suranne looks different in SJA and Single Father and I didn't know she would appearing let alone STARRING in the next series of! When I saw David Tennant in SF my brain did something weird - it immediately recognised , got me into watching it and put a subliminal "YOU WILL NOT THINK OF (THAT THING!)" in my system! LOL IANTO CRYING!!! I can't help but think sometimes Torchwood uses a bit too much blood sometimes but I haven't seen enough episodes (1 and Children Of Earth) to make that judgement
But where is the TARDIS in this episode? Could it be that the Blue Box maybe used later to save him from his grief? Only time will tell people ;) Perhaps the Rani will appear in Single Father at the season's finale...yeap, exciting stuff.
@GrayGhost2020 She is their step-sister. They were voting for what to call their pet dog. Her name got 1 vote, but her brother said "0.5 [votes] Half-Sisters only get half a vote"
Thanks for the review, and I do agree, they attempt to do "real" family dynamics. David praised the kiddies' acting abilities as well, and as far as camera work. He felt the crew attempted to be unintrusive so they could capture scenes like Dave making breakfast.
Tuned in 'cos i really like DT; staying because the programme has promise!
Your opening statement is completely unnecessary. Everyone who watched Tennant in more than three roles knows how brilliant he is.
I agree about the kids and Lucy. They are brilliant. And the family life is so very real... bitchy aunt, casual cruelty between siblings, imperfect parents.
Read a review where someone complained about Rita's body flying. I saw someone fly through the air *just* like that a few month ago. And in my mind it happened in slow motion, too. Enough said.
I'll be open here and admit that I never thought David Tennant was right for the part of Doctor Who, yes i loved the stories but because of the writing not the acting, David played the Doctor as a normal human being and rather well too so now thyat he is back playing normal human beings in normal situations he is clearly pitch perfect
@DalekBlade I will do a review of 'Death of the Doctor' but Sarah Jane Adventures isn't made for someone of my age, so i can't give it a fair review. Also, i have enough videos to make. So thats a no i'm afraid =\
This is seriously down-to-earth heartwrenching drama. David Tennant was so believable in the role that I also didn't think once about Doct - I mean, any of his previous works, because I was so absorbed. I think David Tennant is probably typecast-proof (at least from my point of view, anyway). I wonder where the story will go from here.
I kind of wish the mother had left rather than been killed. It wouldn't have been as tragic, granted, but it's a steriotype that whenever you hear "single father" it means the mother has died. Wheras a single mum is usually the result of the dad being a dick and left. It would have been interesting to see the roles reversed because I know from experience it does happen. Also, it's pretty clear where this thing with Lucy's real dad is going to lead (cont.)...
@RoseNoir90 Her dad's going to end up being an arse who breaks her heart and she continues calling DT's character "Dad". I hope I'm wrong because it's such a cliche - but then I can live with that as long as it's well performed, the same with the first episode. Like you said, we've seen it before, but it was done so brilliant and realistic, I can't really fault it on anything. And yes! Decent child actors are vital and these kids were great.
I didn't watch Single Father as it isn't my sort of program, but considering other similar dramas that I have seen with David Tennant, I prefer him as an actor in those than in Doctor Who. I apologise as this is making a comparison. :D
This may seem like an odd question, but do you watch Escape to the Movies on the Escapist?
I'm noticing a lot of quotes in there and other videos you've done that have been used by MovieBob before, like the 'old joke' thing. I'm not complaining or anything, I'm just curious.
I do have to say though, some people do burst out in tears upon finding a loved one dead, and keep in mind Dave was told she was dead, Ianto could see her dead body covered in blood.
@LeonSKennedy828 I appreciate that the Ianto clip wasn't the best one i could have shown because the context was different, but i meant just his sobbing reaction.
@MrTARDISreviews Still, I don't find it at all hard to believe personally, I know people who've reacted like that on just hearing news of such an occurrence, nevermind what happened with Ianto.
Something I thought a bit odd was how huge and shiny their house was. After all, he was just a photographer and she was a primary school assistant, hardly high paying jobs. Anyway, I enjoyed the show and looking forward to the next one, Tennant was just superb.
I'm watching Dexter Series 5 atm, and a very similar plotline is taking place. I do think that Tennat will do well, as people like him for being himself just as much as they like on... that show.
Also, the first thing that pops into my head when I here 'Single Father' is 'Single Female Lawyer'... think i've been watching too much Futurama.

You have to admit, when playing a character like The Doctor, type casting is inevitable, similar to any actor who's ever played 007.
