Annoying how people want them as pets just because they're cute, THEY BELONG TO THE WILD! By the way, the domestic cats in this vid are supercute also. :) <3
spunkie pie: u think its fai :DDD can u hear that it says its their first day outside they only develop their skills outside, if u think its fail why u watch this video.... i think ur thye big failure in youtube coments....
@XpersiansX Yep it's possible, although this is something we are trying to put an end to. These are wild cats and don't want to live in homes and backyards they want to roam miles and miles of territory in the wild where they belong. They're expensive to feed, need specialist vet care and are dangerous, stick to DOMESTIC cats they want to be your pet :)
i love this series i was looking at cats videos and i saw this and thought wow i must see more its amazeing when i was little my famliy rescued a baby bird cause the momma wasnt coming back and when it learned to fly we let it go and it use to come back to see us everyday day it would let up pet it and give it baths it was so awesome
@kidri0t Well we can't turn them into pets they will ALWAYS be wild and that puts both the owner and cat at risk. But these cats will survive in the wild they are very tough, but there should definitely be more of them out there, too many people not enough room for these cats.
LOL Cougars.. that is seriously that is not cool. As a hunter I respect wild animals (only hunt deer, no carnivores) and cougars and all the above belong in the wild. I dream about seeing a wild cougar in the woods (not shoot) or even a bob cat. Soon enough as in a few years... hell no. 4 thousand years...maybe. But after getting bitten and scratched by a "domestic" cat, you could see why. Even though apparently cougars are great anti theft devices (funny story). They belong in the wild.
but this was posted september...its now 2009!!!! pleeaaasseeee hurry ,surely theres more to tell!!! and i must say what a brilliant mother mum cat has been so far. always a step ahead.
Big Cat rescue how did Hope come to live with these domestic cats in the first place? And how can i know for sure that Big Cat Rescue received my donation of $250Aust ?
We introduced hope to her domestic family at Big Cat Rescue so she would learn to be a cat, jump, pounce, eat etc... Now hope is living on her own in the rehab enclosure and the domestic cats have homes with BCR volunteers!
jjthe11 leaves me thinking that it is legal and common practice for Americans to own bobcats. Could this be true? In australia for obvious reasons you can not own a kangaroo or koala as it is not in the best interest of the animal. I have heard of baby kangaroos being taken against the wishes of the owners. There are tears galore but they are placed withother kangaroos, zoos or wild life reserves.
I love how you care enough about these cats to educate the public on the dangers of owning one. It is a shame that so many big cats are illegally placed in homes.
Your sanctaury is my idea of heaven on earth. I wish I could visit. I don't live close enough. My rescues and I thank you for all you are doing for these beautiful creatures.
well as the saying goes "a cat is a cat is a cat" and as you can see Hopes behaviour is just the same as the domestic cat's behaviour. The difference now that Hope is living on her own and being fed live prey through a tube system is that a domestic cat is just that, they've been domesticated over thousands of years, where as a Bobcat no matter what you do to try and train it is always going to be a WILD cat that won't make a good pet! Thanks for watching.
Once a bobcat or any exotic cat reaches sexual maturity at around 2 years of age, their natural instinct to go and find their own territory and mate comes into effect more. They don't want to be around you and they will let you know! Alot of people get these cats as kittens or cubs and have been brainwashed by the breeder telling them that they make great pets. These cats spray to mark their territory which will include your couch, kitchen bedroom and even YOU! Cost is also an issue.
a bobcats behaviour is almost the same as a regular house cat heres a important hint about bobcats if you have a bobcat and want to make him a house cat before you do make him a house cat take him to the vet so they can see how much parasites the bobcat has bobcat parasites can make people sick and people can even die from it so remember my hint and remember to always take a bobcat to a vet before makeing him an inside cat
Hope the Bobcat episode 11 will be posted early next year, quite a wait but it will be well worth it! You'll see a dramatic difference in Hope physically and personality wise.
I can't wait until the next episode. Little Hope is so adorable and entertaining. I see her scratching the dirt. Is that a bobcat instinct? Almost the way house cats scratch the sofa :O) Thank you for allowing her to stay wild. I see her wild cat ways becoming more apparent with each episode.
dorotwhy, Thank you, we're glad you enjoy the podcasts, Bobcats at this age scratch anything including trees and dirt! It's a way of sharpening their claws as well as marking their territory and spreading scent.
Interesting experiment: Release all four cats together, wherever you're planning to release Hope. Would they stay together? Or would the domestic cats become Hope's prey?
But don't do that!!!!! Mama and her boys deserve to live as pampered house royalty for their roles in raising Hope.
Just watched all 10 in the series...I love what your group does. I do some TNR (trap, neuter, release)I also tame feral kittens,so I was fascinated to see the rehab side of the big cats. Keep up the great work!
Cute family video portrait. Great to see them doing fine, especially Hope. We have bobcats in Sweden also but they don't look the same, are they not the same cat?
Who is going to take care of the normal cats after Hope is all done with them - the kittens, at least, will have lost their chance to be socialized by humans, and the mother cat will have gone without human physical contact for at least a year.
That's good to hear. XD As much as I love wild kitties, domestics are the closest I can get to one. I hope all the kitties (wild and not) adjust well when they go to their final homes.
On a similar note - how will you decide if Hope is wild enough to be returned? Will there be a test, so to speak?
CapNQuack, there have been times the domestics were removed to be held and loved on so they will be fine. Hope gets some foods the domestics do now, so while Hope does her thing, the rest of the family gets human interaction of which they enjoy. They are going to homes that will take extra care and time with them when that time comes. If you watch the Chance the Bobcat videos it will give you an idea of what lies ahead for Hope. THANK YOU for caring!!!

Animals are not novelty toys, and people who imprison wild animals are douchebags.
If you really want a great cat, adopt one from a shelter.

Not if you want some sky high insurance rates! Plus a few stitches......but technically yea.. the morally no. Only in extreme cases.

soon enough bobcats, caracals, servals and even cougers will just be part of the genral group of domestic pets as thats the trend right now

We hope not, hopefully people will realize these cats will never make good "pets" and the suffering will stop for these animals.

Yes we have a few at BCR that do that, also two of our siberian lynx Apoolo and Zeus often do this especially at feeding time!

I had a domestibob mix, she would do that when I wasn't doing what she wanted quick enough for her liking.
Still wondering what it meant exactly.

I had a cat that looked exactly like that Momma Cat, and she had kitten litters every Spring.
After 4 years, my mom decided to give away the cat (she liked dogs better than cats anyway), but the cat died before that could happen.
My mom wouldn't let cats in the house, so all my childhood cats were outdoor kitties.
