Upon further research it appears this song was performed during the aforementioned Lulu programme on 29 July 1972. I would love to see the actual performance as it sounds sublime!
OMG! and she was struggling without a hit in the early 70's? This would have been a blowout SMASH if she had recorded it in the studio and it had been released.
according to Paul Howe's book "The Complete Dusty Springfield", Dusty performed this on Lulu's BBC TV special, "It's Lulu, Not to mention Dudley Moore" which aired in July of 1972.
I never tire of hearing this- she really was one of the greatest singers of her generation, definitely one of the most unique, and one of VERY few white singers who could hold their own with the great R&B voices of that time...
Many thanks for that info! I wonder if there is a video of this performance in a vault somewhere waiting to be dusted off and shared with Dusty fans? Would love to see/hear this in higher quality. P.S. I need to order that Paul Howe's book STAT : )
What is a true shame is that Springfield's performance only remains in audio; as far as Paul Howes and other Dusty devoutees are aware. Much of Britain's live Television catalogs were wiped after airing. According to Howes, this audio source came from an avid fan who recorded the show as it was broadcasting.
@acshore86 What a shame indeed! I can't believe BBC, ITV, etc. didn't consider the potential (whether historic, profit, etc.) of saving these now classic performances. Did Paul Howes mention this information on a Dusty forum somewhere? He is such a valuable resource of all things Dusty.
PLEASE let me know where can I download or can you send me??? PRETTY PLEASE!

This song was covered by Zulema, too. Great song, all versions.

Agreed! What a missed opportunity. I would love to know where Dusty performed this song—she is owning the vocal here!
