Although the shooting began in 1861, the war, it could be argued, did not start until 1863 because there was that period when Gen. McClellen just sat around and did nothing. Only when you get Gen. Grant in there and unleash Gen. Sherman on Georgia do you get "total war" and a decisive outcome. C'mon now, you know you don't go to war without doing a field training exercise; it's just that McClellen felt the troops needed a 2 year FTX to get ready.

Lincoln would have caused the deaths of all Yankees old enough to carry a weapon to get the South back into the Union. Now, do you still think Lincoln started that war to free slaves. Remember, the Blacks were still fighting in the 1960's over a hundred years later for their freedom. Lincoln didn't do sht for the Black people.

That war was about GREED, MONEY, Government Control over its people. Should be the other way around, go think!!! and lots of it.

The North couldn't exists/survive on tax money's taken from northern industries ETC...

Lincoln's only choice to get tax money's from the South...WAR.

Lincoln maintained troops in Ft. Sumter SC, (foreign Country & Sovereign Nation)made the South fire first shot, To get the Yanks out) starting a useless Civil War.

Lincoln got over 400,000 Yanks killed & 200,000 Confederats killed.

Here's why the war really started: the South didn't like the fact that Lincoln was elected, so instead of trying to compromise and work with Lincoln they threw a hissy fit and started their own country. You are right that it wasn't started over slavery, it was a state's rights issue. The issue of slavery though was at the center of the whole state's rights issue.

Your numbers is inaccurate professor. Problem with pretending is that people who know better will step up.

The north did lose more, but you exaggerate. The north lost 360k and the south lost 258k. Theress some other things to also consider. The north lost a lot because they were often in enemy territory and the wounded had to travel much farther to reach proper care. The south also lacked true census, so there's a lot of families and lives lost on the south side that are not known.

Check your numbers again. Besides, the Constitution stated States Rights to secede. Lincoln and his henchmen had no business killing and pillaging folks of the South. Lincoln should have been impeached, tried for war crimes and punished the moment he refused to get his troops out of Ft. Sumter. This alone was an act of war. He had total war on the South.

Sumter was a military asset, obviously they weren't going to give a hostile nation military assets. Texas also imprisoned and removed officials who refused to vote for secession. And when slavery was put to a vote in Kansas people from the south rushed in to Kansas and pillaged and murdered those who approved abolition. You see, the south isn't as innocent as you play.

Also, to continue my earlier comment, the South really showed themselves to be hypocritical on the whole state's rights issue. They had no problem letting the federal government go into many northern states to allow masters to retrieve runaway slaves, even in states that tried to keep slave owners from coming into their states to retrieve their runaways.
