  • HA! so the Stig does live in Australia! Never seen a car driven sooo hard and well. Nice work-

  • have a listen to the VN go off its tits!! love it!!

  • Was this when Holden wouldn't let Peter adjust the settings of the car or near the engine?

  • see from 1:53 check out how close he was to the wall !

  • Abd to think thay used a H pattern

  • this was the last real touring car. the VN Group A.

  • if only the v8 supercars were like this now ahaha

  • 5:17 is music to my ears. can anyone tell me the cam, head & exhaust primary specs of perkins car? i'd love to build a 5ltr to sound like that.

  • @teeroynz You know what he means Mr Gook pack, The Gookline was a high tech sportscar, not a touring car. it shouldnt have been included.

And pushrods engines and ohc engines were invented like 5 years apart from each other so cant say one is more advanced.

What car industry does NZ have again? anything?

  • @teeroynz They were ok, they just didnt have V8's at the time, fords board were anti performance then, later ford brought back the V8.

  • THE GREAT MAN! Australia, Steve Irwin, PETER BROCK, Bathurst, I need to go grab a VB and FEW MATES AND SING OUR aNTHEM!

  • @BMJSpectre1962 thats the way mate. the only difference is that i would grab a stubby of jack daniels.

  • guess what the nissan GTR won the 1991 Tooheys 1000 and to this day holds the Mount Panorama record so a 1991 jap crap car is still faster than a new V8 supercar... p0wned lol

  • @08yannch it wasnt a gtr it was a bluebird and it was broken many times after that, so stfu

  • @dmied1 im talking about the actual race not hot laps. 161 laps 6h 19m Mount Panorama (1,000 Kilometres) Bathurst 1000

  • @08yannch yeah thats what im talking about, it was broken many time past that

  • @08yannch

You neglect to say that in the race that year they had a lot fewer pace car slowages than any other year. Unless we have a race with a similar number of slowages that record will probably stand for many years to come. Godzilla was awesome but you also have to consider it (and the Sierras) under the rules allowed to be 250KG lighter than the dunnydores minimum weight.

  • brocky in a 308! now that makes sense!

  • Brock & bathurst!! Nothing better & Mike Raymond commentating well thats pure heaven.

  • That one lap was more exciting then a whole season of todays v8 supercars!

Ok maybe not but it shows what is missing from todays racecars.

I would prefer cars like that doing 2:14's then v8 slotcars doing 2:06's

  • @spadgm Totally agree with you. These guys wrestled with the cars to make them fast & with proper h pattern gear shifts not sequential shit like now.Proper race car driver back then.

  • unfotunatly we will never see anything like that again! 2 much downforce, to much grip & to much boredom these days! bathurst is always good, but v8 supercars, I prefer watching other forms of motor sport these days days. muscle car masters is my fav now!

  • if you go there you might here his hooting ghost as well ....

"'ooooOOOoooh I'm coming to get you ..... "

  • thats our forever legend.....

  • i wanna race there ONE DAY

  • Even after all these years, this is just fantastic, the Legenday Brocky at his best, KING OF THE MOUNTAIN and the mighty VN. Just love the backside stepping out at mcPhilamy, in complete control, Brock Style.

  • @Brocky1969 This is 2nd to the VL in "87 sideways in the wet

  • thats pretty fast for a tank taxi cab.

  • only brock could make a shitbox look so fast

  • Only someone who sells out their race to the Jap crap would say something like that Travis.

The Commodores beat the cheating Ricelines the year before.

  • those 2 slipups cost him at least 3 places on the grid. where did he start on the grid? 7th? he probably would have started 4th or 5th if he didnt have those 2 slipups.

  • that looks so fucking much quicker than the new cars of 06-09 i mean look at it fucking rip the the turns and slam down the straights its fucking mental!

    brocky! WHAT A FUCKING LEGEND!

  • no downforce on the old cars so pretty loose under brakes and into mc philimy

  • @VortexNeurofunk Yep, a FUCKING LEGEND.. seems only a few short years ago yet the cars look so spartan and raw as opposed to what we're seeing today. Considering they were the last of the true production based homologation specials, a 2:16 is an awesome time around there!!

  • @VortexNeurofunk - Top Ten shootout lap. Of course it looks faster. Times don't reflect it, though.

  • now this is the real V8s i remember way back when i was a lil kid back in Research i used to watch brocky with my dad(who went to Eltham High too) this is racing and real skill at its finest Brock was a freak behind the wheel he was a natural with real talent and real experience in a car i appreciate the older cars simply because technology didnt play a major role it was just machine and man a true bond of knowledge and feel the way driving is supposed to be FUCK TCS and technology

    JUST DRIVE!!!

  • Ha Ha Larry always the politician. Get a jab in at the Nissan's while you can.

  • if that does not give you wood then you are just not a male

  • I think Brockies lap has to be the most exciting lap i have ever seen anyone do around the mountain! That was awesome!

  • all u lot that are fighting, bugger off to some other vid, and stop being a bunch of fucking key board warriors!

    get a life tossers.

  • fucking AMAZING

  • wonderpuppet i think you're the one who has issues, taking other peoples comments so seriously.

  • thats what you call havin a fucking go!!!!

  • will you just do yourself a favour and fuck off to another vid if you wanna argue with fromis, because neither i nor anyone else wants to listen to yous 2 whinge and moan, jeez.

  • This shows a lot, same cars different driving style tipping larry would be there at the end if brocky drove like that flat like he did in the VK snapped the single row timing chain.

FORD pulled out of OZ with an V8 Falcon so Serria's where introduced Euro shit not muscle at all. Top fuelers don't need turbo's. Find the clip where Win and Gricey beat 13 Serria's because it got a little hot outside. GTR Spanked everything a year later. 25k commo how much 4 a GTR or RS2000 Cosworth Serria

  • i almost agree with you on some things. top fuelers are the worst comparison to draw a v8 versus turbo debate. as much as i love them, remember this. they have 11.2 litre motors. have psi superchargers cranking excess of 40 psi. use a mixture of %40 nitro/%60 methanol as fuel. and blow up like a grenade at the slightest bit of tuning irregularity. ford should have used xf turbo crossflow sixes as touring cars.

  • Seeing this shit on telly about GM possibly closing and Ford laying off workers pisses me off!!!

I know its time to move on but I hate where we are heading. Holden has stuck in this country and we need them here!

Same goes with Ford. I agree with what you are saying BTW....Tuning anything that needs tolerances sucks! heat fuel air and timing all perfect. Wack a hairdryer and bearings/belts and spools can spin up to god knows! 45,000 + rpm and even much more.

  • ok this isnt to you its just in the area..

ok Turbo Vs N/A: N/A wins simply through response no matter how hard you try Turbos ALWAYS lag due to physics in other words inertia where as an N/A engine has constant power all the time and thats what makes a V8 supercar so awesome 600hp with instant engine response and massive torque you cant argue with power that is instant and all in the foot where as a turbo will normally kick in at 4k+ RPM and N/A power is always there when u want and need it!!!

  • i couldnt agree more.

  • At the end of Brocks run, great to see how him and john Harvey (Slug)get on, best of mates. Was a great day eh....

  • HSV shouldnt have put such a wild bodykit on their Group A cars. although the benifit is more downforce, but the price that it comes with is more drag. so at bathurst, if the commodores had a simular bodykit tothe VK & VL HDT group A cars at bathurst then it probably woulde have been quicker down conrod and as a result, it probably would have been able to keep up.

  • this video is footage of the last time you'll ever see brock put in a flying lap at bathurst in a 100% aussie built commodore powered by a home-grown engine. it is sad to know that GMH chose to homologate the chevrolet shitbox and fucked up ATCC all together.

  • great footage. Brock and Perkins two of the all time great drivers.

I wish it was October already!!!

  • Why the disrespect..Brock was one of the best we have seen,,and in his passing,,just afford the man the dignity and respect,,whether you are a Ford or Holden man,,that he earned..Put the car badges aside,,and remember the joy that he gave the Australian race fans over the years..

  • just pisses me of when people talk shit and correct you on spelling for fucks sake thats what a fag would do but anyway i got way better thing to do than get heated up over that toss this is the last vid i thought someone would bitch and have a cry

  • wonderpuppet your a cocksmoker so fucking what bitch if i spelt WIESEL wrong grow some balls you fucken nerd and i wasn't joking about y mum either she loves it and whats this you'd fuck you own mum you'd love be the meat in you parents sandwich wouldn't ya and whats this about working on my hb torana- wtf...dipshit go work on your mum bitch- she'd love it lol!

  • don't worry about him mate, just ignore the kunt.

  • Yeah, I remember watching this at the time with heart in mouth. Back it in and nail the bastard. Good ol' Brockie.

  • Hey Prozac3261,thanks for posting this clip, the old Holden V8 realy did have a sound all its own.The boys out here in the Old U.S.A can not beleive it either.Love to be able to run one of those old beasts in classic racing out here mate.

  • Shut upa da both of ya!

  • wonderpuppet id like 2 see you race a car a quarter as good as the legend himself you little fuckin pindick wiesel, go fuck y mum

  • you fucking dirty piece of rat shit! if i or any other true Holden fans here knew who the fuck you were mate...

  • fuk, listenin to both of the cars in this video, especially the exhaust note, it just gives me goosebumps.

  • wait, maybe the commodores were specifically homologated more for bathurst than other racesthats probably why. notice the rear wheel was in mid air across the top, maybe they had a different suspension setup on the right hand side of the car. because most corners are mostly right-handers.

  • why is it that the commodore is quicker across the top of the mountain than the sierra, but the sierra just blew it away in a straight line, is there a different suspension setup, off by heart, i always thought commodores used struts. maybe the sierras used double wishbones??

  • what a fuckin legend

  • i wonder about the same thing i think its because maybe he held 5th gear too long up the straight but i think brocky pushed his car alot harder coming down the chase, but in the vid they look the same but thats what i think anyway

  • brock could easily have got pole if not for that slip-up just before skyline and coming out of the chase, he would probably have clocked a 2:15:6 or something like that.

  • SKaifey was doing 12's in the GTR. There is an extra second in that lap though, the mistake at the chase partricularly costly.

  • well thats fukin quick, i guess.

  • Peter Brock really did that lap Aytron Senna-style. Very spectacular and ragged.

Larry Perkins did his Alain Prost style. Calm and calculated.

Brock was a thrill to watch, but the engine sound out of Perkins' car at ~6:30 is great.

  • ey prozac3261, don't worry about tryin to dig up the mezera and perkins dispute, it's the bathurst 1000 1991 race 9 of 14

  • how is larry close to a second quicker than brock to the second sector, and then be about 6 tenths of a second slower than brock at the finish line?? brock clocked 2:16:07, and larry clocked 2:17:01. he must have lost a lot of time coming out of the chase, i guess.

  • i'd like to see a speed comparison between the current cars and this car at bathurst one day, it'll be interesting.

  • About 10 seconds per lap.

  • these days, they use the hollinger gearbox, and they don't even have to use the clutch. but back then, they did. what's the go??

  • I dont know much about the evolution of the hollinger box, but i know they were using the clutch back then. and i know somewhere around the early supercar era they were just lifting of the accel without clutch for upshifts.

I'd say the go is that technology in 1991 just wasnt what it is now.

  • larry's an excellent engineer, and driver. peter brock + larry perkins = two of the best drivers ever to drive an australian built supercar.

  • about the engines in these cars, they are actually 410kw or 530hp and they used a hollinger 6spd gearbox.

  • hang on, was larry using just an ordinary gearbox?? or was he using a hollinger gearbox?? because if there was no flat shifting in thos days, were they even using the hollinger?? i thought they were using it as early as 1987

  • wasn't crompton was driving the no.7 HRT commodore????

  • Yes he was. His car didn't make the top 10, so he commentated the shootout.

  • how can cromply be in commentary when he's racing?

  • It was a shootout, top 10 qualified cars go.

Besides his co-driver, wayne gardner, would of taken the lap if they did.

  • Wow I didn't realise Crompton was in the commentary box that long ago. Lol he's like Ray Warren in NRL - the voice of the sport

  • cars*

  • if some still used the holden block in 96, were the HRT car using them? or was it just the privateer cars using them????

  • sorry it took me til now to realise what you meant by 'in the 15s', i was thinking for some reason you were refering to quarter mile times? but yeah considering the car setup was nowhere near as advanced as today its a pretty good time still.

  • piss off, they standard 165kw executive road car was running 15's, these were running probably 11's maybe even 10's but 460hp sounds right being about 330kw?

  • very nice group a ss

  • 460hp????? is that all???? no wonder thet were still in the 15's, even at their best.

  • Great Vid!!!. R.I.P Peter BRock.

  • whats the hp rating on these cars

  • probably about 520-550 horsepower, but it went up when they started to use the chevy motor

  • It's more like 460bhp. They went up to about 550bhp when they switched to the chev's in 93.

  • na mate some still used the holden block in 96

  • I know mate, im just generalising how much horsepower most front running teams were making from the begining of 93.

  • hey prozac3261, have u got that video up yet?

  • i thought they didn't have to use the clutch to shift in a hollinger gearbox.

  • it deosn't sound like larry is flat shifting, whats going on there?

  • No flat shifting in those days. They couldnt even upshift without the clutch back then.

Drivers these days have it easy.

  • actually, i think it's because not as many people are cheering larry on, that's probably why it sounds louder, there's less cheering from the crowd

  • u guys are confusing, sorry if im bein a smartass

  • actually what maraadam pointed out makes sense coz i cant see them running different exhausts but if u listen larrys car has more drone to it so im buggered if i know

  • i don't understand, y wud the sista car run a different exhaust? hey prozac3261, do you know?

  • I have no idea, all i know is larry was running the race engine during the top 10 while peter was running his practice engine.

  • Thats all i was going to say, have no idea why the engines would sound different, but really no 2 engines are identical

  • dudes, im not getting shitty, its just i know im right, just listen to the commentor to what hes says when larrys going around the corner from mountain straight, even he knows the difference in sound is much tougher.

  • i agree with jam3z07, they both sound the same to me as well. but mate, you don't have to get agro just because someone else disagrees with you.

  • dude if you think both cars sound the same your hearings fucking with your mind, listen to how much louder larrys car is, it has a completely different tone to it...much more lumpier and theyre the same engine so theyre obviously running different exhaust system or something

  • you don't have to get shitty at me.

  • i have to say this again but larrys car sounds so bloody AWESOME!

  • mate, they both sound the same, it's just that they didn't show in-car vision with larry, not even in the race, or did they?

  • i never get tired of this video

  • damn straight!, i cant stop watching it, its so awesome!

  • Simply te best vid on this site...brock @ bathurst awesome

  • hey prozac3261, have you got the video up yet?

  • Not yet, having problems with my dvd recorder, so it might be awhile yet.

  • is it an old 1? if it is, why don't you just get a new one?

  • We're not all made of money bud.

  • ok no worries

  • Still haven't got the vid up yet, but the problem with the engine was a valve spring.

  • i heard that larry had a really bad race that year, can anyone tell me what happened??

  • At the end of Tomas Mezera's stint in the car he brought it in with engine problems. There was a slight altercation between the two drivers and the car was retired.

  • so there was an argument between perkins and mezera?

  • I'll see if i can dig up the footage and post it here, it wasnt much from memery, larry pushed tomas' visor on his helmet up and had a bit of a shout as tomas tried to explain what the problem was.

From memory they lost radio communications before the pitstop, so larry didnt know of the problem until the car came in.

  • ok, but do you know excactly what the problem was with the engine?

  • hey, i work with larry these days as a chassis builder, i'll ask him what it was about, but put the footage up anyway, if you can.

  • don't worry about it, he'll have the vid up soon of larry and tomas

  • awesome video, Brock Rules!!

  • i agree with ya, it's the best video of all!!!

  • mate, this video is about peter brock racing at the bathurst 1000, not about sex tapes of exgirlfriends, soo fuck off, you fucken idiot

  • What a classic piece of Aust. motor sport history depicting one of the defining moments of the real ATCC. The last Aust. factory built homologated racecar in the VN Holden Commodore SS Group A in full song around Bathurst with arguably two of the best drivers who ever sunk their right boot into an Australian built V8. Its a damn shame that the current V8 Supercar series has degenerated into a hyped up, farsical circus of irrelevant homogeneous cars with questionable driver ability.

  • good old peter perfect, those were the good days when he was driving a proper race car in '91' and before, not like the current day V8 supercars, they need all bodykits and for downforce, the cars looked beautiful untill '92'

  • Vastly, vastly, vastly more impressive than current V8's. 2 of the best drivers in Australian racing history, 2 of the best laps.

  • Brocky you insane legend!!

  • Damn talk about pushing the car to the limit. Brocky u are the best long live the king. RIP buddy

  • He certainly did

  • Larry actually carried Castrol sponshorship on the bonnet of his VL in 1990

  • He had castrol on board with his team as early as 1986. before that he was with HDT which had the Mobil sponsership in 85 and castrol in 84 and before.

  • no he had marlboro in 84 and before, didn't he?

  • Yes Marlboro was the major sponser of the HDT but Castrol was also on board with them before 85.

  • was castrol ever the main sponser of HDT?

  • RIPS BROCKY!!!! :( :(

  • thats what i thought when listening to larrys car id love to go cruisin in it.

  • We will all miss the Master THE KING PETER BROCK.

  • Those were the days!

  • Geez that's a rare sight, Larry without Castrol or Dunlop sponsorship on his car.

  • dipshit..Its Peter Brock...bloody ignoramus

  • Mate. I know it was Team Brock/Team Mobil, I'm just saying that I have seen Larry with Castrol and Dunlop sponsorship for most of my life and to see that Larry having Mobil and Bridgestone stickers on a car he is driving is bit of a shock.

  • well that was before he had castrol sponsorship, because he was driving for peter brock, he didn't have castrol sponsorship untill he started his own team lol. speakin of that car, someone else mentioned that they were lookin for brocky's original VN Group A that he drove at bathurst '91'. does ANYone know anything about the were-a-bout's of this car? or has it been ripped apart and thrown away in the tip? if anyone know's, can u please put it up

  • damn that holden v8 sounds so tough

  • does anyone know if a car collector owns this actual car? because im interested in bying it if it goes up 4 sale
