The word choice in Sam Beam's poetry and lyrics are put together to have an impact on the majority. I feel like so many people can relate to that nostalgia; things like "blooming fruit trees," "sunlight on the water," "flowers on the hillside," and the way those things make you feel. It's emotionally striking the way they're then mixed with darker imagery: "sickness, blood," "birds falling from the sky," "pistols, car crashes." Sometimes it's hard for people to understand beauty in contrast.

I knew they'd find that Iron & Wine tune boring. It's a strong melody but it doesn't go to a chorus or anything -- the changes are all instrumental and bit too subtle.
