  • Mario Balotelli on bass guitar?

  • SHREDDING.

  • NORWOOD!

  • effing Norwood on the bass too..dope!

  • he was still addicted at that time?

  • @rn4n63r he still is lol

nah, he was clean by that time, when he rejoined to rhcp to record caliFORNICATION

  • @rn4n63r Yeah, he didn't quit heroin until last 1997 and then he quit cocaine and alcohol in early 1998

  • @fajitaRBguy01111

how do u know this about cocaine and alcohol?

  • @rn4n63r john has stated this in interviews countless times. get educated, dont expect people to answer your questions for you. look around.

  • @Limjucas8396

could u link some of these countless interviews pls? i'm getting educated, sadly here in croatia we don't learn much about frusciante.

  • @rn4n63r im sorry for the hostility. I assume people are ignorant. I dont feel like sifting through and finding things specifically but I will DM you and the other commenter asking for the interviews with a link to a place where you will find much fruscinate love.

  • @Limjucas8396 thats gonna be a lesson for me as well..

  • He played this on my bday, and released his latest album on my bday. Bitches.

  • @maddygmae you sure got an awesome present dude :D

  • @maddygmae Bitch, please. Me and Frusciante share our birthday.

  • Grunge!

  • Does anyone know what year this took place in !?? Pleaase and thankyou (: ?

  • I know its 2011 now,but please turn johns mic up mr roadie

  • wish more people liked this stuff, its amazing

  • I love these sounds! I love his guitar playing! I hope to hear some new solo stuff soon

  • "a sad news" indeed

  • Who are the other musicians?

  • @Cubehead666 it looks like the bassist is norwood fisher

  • Can't hear the vocals. Shame!

  • where did this come from?

  • fishboneisredhot

  • am i the only one hearing only the guitar and bass ? apart from a fainted sound on vocals there's nothing, and the drums are hardly ever hearable

  • he looks near-death here but this performance is amazing to watch

  • wooh i LOVE this song so much, its amazing, thanks for uploading!! :D

  • his outfit is similar to kurt cobain's

  • @emitremmus15 So was the Heroin. Lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Can hardly hear the drums wtf? Sad to see john like this but he just makes me appreciate life even more, just look at him now just god.

  • i want this in mp3

  • I so high right now and this sounds awesome...

  • its not viper room man

  • its the guy from fishbone right? i know its not flea lol

  • i dont think flea was feelin this song

  • @jrcsgtpeppers how can you tell? ha

  • @jrcsgtpeppers thats not flea hahah

  • @jrcsgtpeppers lol flea isnt balck

  • God, I would consider giving you my arm to be at this show...

  • look at that hair, like he hasn't take a shower for fucking years hahaha, johhny i love you man thank you

  • @alexjamess he hasn't- the only fluid he had contact during this time was heroin i guess.

Just kidding. John, without your music and passion for life and music i wouldn't be here anymore.

I owe you a fucking lot!

  • I dont see why you guys make bud out as such a big deal, you guys should all go smoke a fat one

  • i think that John`s favorite band in 1997 was nirvana.

despite the think that he said that he hates it in 1994 interview.

most of his shows with a band during the 1997 tour had at least one nirvana song in the set list

  • poor anthony's broken arm

  • lol froosh looks like cobaine.

  • this does look like Nirvana a bit

  • norwood ! and john fucking amazing

  • clearly this is when he was still obsessed with nirvana

  • @rediffs I thought he never liked them? He even says in the VPRO 1994 that Kurts music sucks

  • @MisaGuitarist in 1994 he hated nirvana but as time went by he became a devoted fan.

  • i wonder if Chad, flea and Anthony ever fealt partially responsible for what happened to john? i would do if i was them, introducing him to all the drugs and stuff...

  • @jakeblandjk47 well I think john had the idea of doing drugs even before he joined red hot chili peppers, they say he walked out on frank zappa because he forbid drugs.

  • @jakeblandjk47 Its nobody's fault except his...Nobody forced him to take drugs...

  • @SkateTS808 true, but they still played a part.

  • @jakeblandjk47 nop not at all john start using because he was lost because of fame...not because of chad and flea and anthony

  • @SkateTS808 it was a tiny bit because of anthony too

  • @SkateTS808 Thats not accurate either, I heard John say he played guitar because he wanted to do drugs. He got into rock music because of bisexuality and drugs. I've also heard him say hes unhappy when hes not high. You can't always simplify stuff like he did this because of that, he just loves drugs period.

  • @WolfmanToldmeToBilo you listen to the interview in 1994. Bisexuality and drugs? He was high off his ass when he said that. He did refused to play for Zappa because he wanted to do drugs. But in the begging of RHCP he didn't do dope...

  • @SkateTS808 until he found out Flea was high on pot every gig.. When you get high 24/7... and you say something when your "high", you ARE saying it. Your just defensive skate. He didn't do dope at the beginning of RHCP? ya he was like 12. Hillel didn't do them either right? just died of an Od.................

  • @WolfmanToldmeToBilo - ahh, I think john has changed. You hear it in the music he makes now. He says he doesn't have sex, drink or do drugs anymore. said that his life is good without them so there is no need for them. I don't think he loves drugs, it's not love it's pleasure and addiction, bad love.

but yeah, nobody really knows whats going through anyonethes mind. I don't know whats going on in my mind most days!

  • @WolfmanToldmeToBilo not true at all dumbass, try to actually listen to what he says. He didn't get into rock music because of bisexuality and drugs, thats just what he associated with rock music because of David bowie, that was more later on.

  • @WolfmanToldmeToBilo He started doing drugs sometime after he started going to RHCP concerts. When he was 15 he started playing guitar 10-15 hours a day(dont remember exactly how long) for like 2 years, and during this time he didnt do anything because it would interfere with his playing, he didnt even really talk to ppl. and he has said repeatedly that he is much happier now that he is off drugs. the shit about drugs was when he quit the chili peppers the first time, the worst of it anyways.

  • you can tell theres way less chemistry with this guy than with Flea... that intro was painful, aside from John's playing

  • that's tom morello playing the bass... no shit

  • Actually it's Norwood Fisher from Fishbone.

  • @Johagorn actually it's Norwood Fisher from fishbone.

  • is that flea?

  • @dandansade yeah.. flea is black.

  • amazing!!! how come ive never seen this before?

  • he looks like cobain!!!

  • i cant hear any vocals

  • reminds me of Cobain....

  • this song makes me want to cry the way he talks to me through his guitar during the wah.. such beautiful sounds. .

  • shitt!! how he can play like that??

i can hear it forever ....

  • I can t hear him :|

  • Frusciante's leaving RED HOT is a sad news :´(

  • Good news imo. More Frusciante solo stuff

  • @rhinofish RHCP > JOHN'S SOLO STUFF , because you get flea and chad alongside , and with john solo stuff it's beautiful and subtle but it's also dark and humbling..

  • @FadedSTEELERSfan You really can't compare those two, so difference......

  • @MrAnfax you honestly can though.. see john is at his musical best when he has flea and chad next to him its just so plainly obvious its not funny. but when he does his solo work you see JOHNS emotion not the groups thoughts and johns rhythmy and melody exactly how he wants it not what is neccessary for the group.

  • @FadedSTEELERSfan its an opinion.. also johns is clearly better.

  • @Limjucas8396 man they are both at the same level. my preference when i listen to frusciante is when he is with the group because i know he was happy with them even thorugh the up's and down

  • Comment removed

  • @JMKQUEPONS its because they were making a new album and he did not want anything to do with the fame that would come along with that thats why frusciante left

  • was this really from 97 cause that is when frusciante was SMACK in the low point of his life with addictions, im pretty sure he stopped playing guitar by then

  • it's 97 for sure

  • @tvrulesnation

he never stoppt playing guitar or makin art

  • @JohnsGuitar2k7

I'm pretty sure at some point coming up to what could be titled ''his last days of life'' he got to the point where he could barely play guitar.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that where Frusciante got his ''less is more'' approach on guitar for Californication as he basically had to re-learn how to play guitar from the abuse he put his body through which affected his ability to play

  • @tvrulesnation umm. Frusciante didn't have to relearn to play the guitar. he had to restrengthen his fingers. he took the less is more approach after listening to similar music.

  • @ryanliamg

Ay i apologise then i don't actually know alot about frusciantes history & time-line itself only what is within relation to RHCP (fav band), i obviously misread having to relearn guitar for re-strengthning to play guitar.

If i may point towards another musical genius check out a blues-rocker called Rory Gallagher (OR Roy Buchanan very talented guy), if your in anyway into the likes of Hendrix (blues based) or Steve Ray Vaughn/Clapton that will be right down your road.

  • @tvrulesnation

That's definitely down my alley. I need to check out more Gallagher, I know I'd dig his stuff.

  • I wish I could hear the drums and vocals =(

  • oh shit is that John Norwood Fisher?

  • am i the only one who is slightly reminded of kurt cobain? the hair length, the sweater, the distortion pedal, the i've-given-up-on-life demeanor?

  • haha, totally.i have that pea green cardigan (or one that looks like it) and it automatically makes me look like cobain/heroin john.

  • @DimebagsLeftToe "heroin-john" hahaha yeah!

  • @alehi1 and btw everybody was looking like that at that time... especially artistjunkies...

  • I love john frusciante and his work but that was pure shite! maybe it was just because the sound bloke was on smack(?) but it was terrible. would maybe been okay without the bassist and drummer and if it was accoustic. so basically the album version

  • screw you i believe that this is his best song. its beautiful and its one of the most emotional songs ever written

  • i believe its one of his best songs, but this version is utter shite and you sir, are a fool

  • no your a fool. this isnt shit. its just bad quality. if he had a better sound engineer there and this was recorded better you would think this was the most amazing shit ever

  • maybe if he had a better sound engineer and it was recorded better i would agree, however he doesn't have a better sound engineer and its bad quality, ergo, its shite

  • well i find it beautiful

  • and you are entitled to your opinion Mr Colon, i just prefer the album version

  • i always prefer to listen to live versions like this. theres usually a lot of improve and the music just flows out and you could tell its not rehearsed or anything

  • norwood fisher

  • Damnit, i wish this was recorded better.

  • he looks like kurt

  • @lithium7776 i tought the same :O

  • is that guy from fishbone?????

  • junkie chaos

  • wow johns guitar sounds awesome but he looks like crap

  • even when most things in life are destroyed, the sound of your guitar is always immortal!!

  • awesome comment

  • @maomaotittymcmao If you think that you should really look into Eric Claptons life if you havnt already. The only thing that brought him from the brink of suicide many times was his guitar, It was always his salvation.

  • @maomaotittymcmao no its not my guitar quit wich it at the moment he is at a music store for repair

  • 6;42 - wtf?who is that?

  • microphone too loud or the instruments are too loud

  • I am sorry ( I know he was recovering from his addictions) but John looks terrible in this vid. But he is kicking ass, as always with that guitar!

  • it's really cool to see thsi stuff done with a band

  • i wish i could hear the vocals

  • john looks a lot like kurt in this video! my two favorite guitarists!!

  • Kurt wasn't really a "guitarist". He was a singer/songwriter. He wrote catchy and sometimes heavy riffs. But they were all made up of simple chords. And almost all his solos were anti-solos.

Frusciante's on another level when it comes to guitar.

  • but come as you are not too simple

  • Really? I would suggest that to a beginner.

  • around 6th minute he s a lil`bit out of key, you heard the first performance of smells like teen spirit??? (not on tv) kurt plays solo totally out of key, but it was still awesome you know

  • oh you meant come as you are???well it`s not very easy to compose that kind of a riff

  • You shittin' me? That riff is made up of 5 notes which span the first two frets of the guitar neck and the first two strings.

  • but i can`t compose something oringinal

  • Yeah. I'm not a very good writer of original material either. But I'm saying that Com As You are was a very simple song to compose, and the rest of his songs were, too. I respect him very much as a song writer and I love his work dearly. I'm just saying that there are far, far more skilled musicians.

  • like yingwie malmsteen - he is very skilled

  • Yeah no doubt about that :)

Personally I think that there's much more to music that skill though, I mean, the art that comes with writing lyrics, or making something simple sound beautiful is also a great part of music that I think can be equally as good.

  • Oh, no doubt. I totally agree. There is music that's infinitely simple to play that I enjoy much more than stuff which would take years to learn.

I mean, I'm a much bigger fan of Nirvana than of Satriani or Malmsteen or anything like that.

  • Eh, Satriani and Malmsteen just annoy me. They just shred. They're too formal, there's like...zero emotion.

  • Me too. They get boring after about two songs.

  • @MissingStrings totally agree

  • @MissingStrings Listen to some more Satriani. You are just showing your ignorance here.

  • @LithuanianGuitar

I have listened to Satriani plenty -_-

My opinion hasn't changed over the last year.

  • @MissingStrings So I guess your ears have problems. Sorry, but that's my conclution. You see, satriani has a lot of slow instrumentals with your so called "feeling". Another thing, just because something is played fast, doesn't mean it has no feeling. It's different type of emotion.

  • @MissingStrings

True! I feel that too. Fru is another. He's fuckin' guitar god.

  • @MissingStrings

Malmsteen i get, but you should really try to listen some more Satriani i think. He's an awesome guitarist as well

  • @MissingStrings Who are you to judge how much "emotion" is expressed in someones music? Fuck you, you simpleminded prick. You're jealous because your favorite guitarist doesn't have the technical ability or knowledge to write music as complex as other musicians who spent their time practicing and improving rather than sitting in their fucking room at the other end of a pipe. I love John Frusciante's music, and I'm sure he doesn't want you worshiping him. Remove your tongue from his ass.

  • @bill14231393 I hear john practiced 8-12 hours a day as kid, sometimes even as much as up to 16 hours. If you wanna say he played a bit less when on tour like most musicians you can say he easily averaged 6 hours a day sense he first started played so the practicing comment is untrue.

  • @angiec789 I hear anyone who claims to practice that long is a liar.

  • @bill14231393 not true, over the past two years i have practised 6-12 hours a day NO BULLSHIT! and if i do that im pretty sure froosh could when he was a kid too... and even though i have along way to go, u can really hear how much i practise in my playing

  • @Christophanus 1. He's full of crap. 2. Either you're full of crap, or you're on the express train to burnout central, with stops in tendinitis city.

  • @bill14231393 yeah i have to like stop playing every month for about 2 weeks cause of shit like tendinitis and stuff.... man the thought of getting tendinitis scares the SHIT out of me, im only young and music is what i really really want to do in the future..... btw im not full of crap about playing 6-12 hours a day, and i do agree that 15 hours a day is hard to believe, but i recon that he did practise that much for about a month or somthin

  • @Christophanus Alright, it's pretty clear you're full of shit.

  • @Christophanus he used to practice 15 hours a day almost every day..even after he got famous with the red hot..his life is his guitar, thats why hes one of the best if not the best at it.

  • @Christophanus i recall john saying in an interview that he practised 10-15 hours every day for 5 years.

i think that was during his teens, before he joined RHCP

  • @damn0423 T'was from the age of 12-17:) He joined the Chilis when he was 18.

  • @Christophanus your a fucking gimp

  • there tree guitar players that makes my body fly away to heaven : John, Jimi, Kurt

  • can i add one?

    John, Jimi, Jack and Kurt

  • Jack who?

  • white

  • who are you talking about? if jack white, then..

    YOU're A MASSIVE SPAZ.

  • Completely agree.

  • Yepyep, and that's what John Frusciante does INSTEAD of soul less shredding.

  • Hmmm...I don't know. He's just a sensible player, he doesn't try to show off with a solo in every bit of empty sound. He likes putting emotion into his music. If you listen to The Empyrean he's VERY sensible because it's just all synthesisers. But I think he's ONE OF the best out there. There are more skilled musicians, but he played guitar 17 hours a day (give or take) everyday for 5 years, and long hours everyday before and after that. I think he's pretty fucking talented after that much work.

  • originalier than come as you are

  • The guy playing the bass is norwood fisher from fishbone

  • reincarnation of hendrix...
