However, if they are legitamite item that is clearly marked as a different brand, though the style maybe similar or the same, it is not illegal. You can go to department stores in large cities and find "generic" brand of it. People there is a big difference between "knock-offs" and counterfeit. Knock-offs are when a product's name and/or logo is changed just enough to avoid copyright infringement usually keeping with the same color scheme and a slight mis-spelling of the name ie; Coco Chanel vs. Ms.Koko Sharnelle.

Luxury brand items are purchased because of the experience of exclusivity. It's not meant for everyone---and certainly those who cannot afford it.

LOL you go girl, I wouldn't know a knock off from the real thing. I'm in SC and they get them at the flea markets, not being raceist I have noticed the tackies that are gettin caught here are asian folks. But I do have designer handbags, sharif, and whiting and davis, but I get them on hsn, hope they ain't selling fakes cos u pay out the ying yang for them. But if I like something I don't care who made it I get it cos I like it.

I agree with the idea of "knockoffs" being sold as the real thing. However, if they are legitamite item that is clearly marked as a different brand, though the style maybe similar or the same, it is not illegal. You can go to department stores in large cities and find "generic" brand of it. It maybe tacky, but I would be willing to admit it wasn't the real thing because it looks just about as good and cost $300 less!!!

I'm not investing $500.00 in a designer bag. Sorry! I'm not a name brand whore nor do I view designer things as trophies. I would rather invest money in a trip or property...
Even wealthy celebs purchase knock-offs...lol I will never pay full price whether it's designer, knock offs, or whatever... To Each His Own..people should do them. No judgements here :)

People there is a big difference between "knock-offs" and counterfeit. Knock-offs are when a product's name and/or logo is changed just enough to avoid copyright infringement usually keeping with the same color scheme and a slight mis-spelling of the name ie; Coco Chanel vs. Ms.Koko Sharnelle.
A counterfeit is when every thing is duplicated to the last detail and passed off as the real thing. There is nothing wrong with "knock-offs" for people who can't afford the original.

Honey, it is ILLEGAL. That is the main point. It makes no sense for folks to go to jail all for trying to perpetrate to others as if they have spent big bucks for the real thing. That is ridiculous! AtlantaSista, please re-read my post and see that "knock-offs" ARE NOT ILLEGAL, but counterfeits ARE ILLEGAL. You are using the wrong word to describe goods that have been produced using the copyright logo and design by someone other than the original manufacturer/owner. Go to the dictionary on the online and see the definition of "knock-offs"
And no I have not personally had a few of these bags because I'm not a woman but I "got the hookup" I live in NYC and my cousin just loved hers at xmas

I agree, it is tacky to carry a fake designer bag. Personally, I'd be embarrassed. The sad thing is, these "vendors" go to Canal St, buy the counterfeits for dirt cheap and sell them for nearly 10 as much. It's sad. This happens on ebay too.
Lastly, why would a person want a fake coach? Coach is more affordable than Gucci, Dior, Fendi, etc.

I actually forgot about this knock-off thing. Who the f**k are people trying to impress so bad? The problem as I see it isn't even the sellers or even the makers of the knock-offs; it's the mindset of the buyers. Demand dictates supply. Meanwhile some of these people won't spend a fraction of the amount of money on books for their kids...people KILL me with that.
