  • What transmission?

  • truck sounds nice are the headers you used the shorty ones i have 89 dakota with a 340 in it truck

  • what did you do for motor mounts

  • will the 5 speed standard tranny from the v6 hold up to the 318?

  • @thetonster78 i have 92 dakota that i swapped a 318 mag in to i converted it to carbureted with a edelbrock air-gap intake mild cam and a 650cfm holley vacuum secondaries and ignition kit money ran low due to cracked heads when building, and block work but i went with the 5 speed that was orig. in my truck to save money. i put a bigger clutch in it the tranny will hold up i got around 8500 miles on mine wit half of that hard miles. the tranny will do some hella 2nd gear dumps around 3500 rpms

  • @thetonster78 the slight prob to this is the gearing in the tranny, you have to remember that this is a v6 rated tranny and geared for a v6, it does hold up though, but to me the 318 feeld like a hopped up v6, you might be able to regear the rearend to counter the tranny gears but i dont think you can do a whole lot about it, mine has an 8 1/4 stock rear with stock 3.55s but i replaced the diff with a posi from warren gear, stock diff shredded the spider gears 1 month after bought truck wit v6.

  • i can't wait to do my v8 swap in my dakota!

  • so you do not have eney of the old wiring or enything so did you have to run gayjes and how did you do the eegnition switch

  • What do you have for a oil pan and what did you do for motor mounts?

  • @brntworace the motor came from a 1987 Ramcharger, it was the stock pan on that truck

  • @RCBev oh, and motor mounts were fabbed at that time using grand cherokee motor mounts. however this setup was changed and mounts were made, nit schumacher makes a kit that all bolts in for about 350

  • i have a 87 dodge dakota 318 wedge head swap u have a pretty nice truck

  • Which model headers did you throw on there? I'm having tons of trouble finding a pair for my 87 318 swap.

  • Those are flowtech headers. Not sure the model number. I know they are for a mid 90's magnum motor and just closed the provisions. The bolt and tube pattern is the same.

  • Do u kno if u can put the transmission from a regular cab 1992 dodge dakota into a 1995 extended cab dodge dakota. they are both the 3.9 v6 motor and both are 4x4. if not do u kno of anybody?

  • @MLGsucks8693

yeah they do but the drive shafts are different. If i remember correctly the extended cab ones are 2 piece.

  • would i hav to get an adaptor or anything to make the drive shaft from the extended cab to fit on the regular cab transmission. the year difference shouldnt be a big factor either?

  • No i dont think you need anything. The Xcab drive shaft is 2 piece to make up for the added length. The transmissions are the exact same though, and so is the imputs

  • Got a 94 Dakota 318 4x4 king cab, that son of a bitch will fly and it handles like a fuckin sports car!

    Cant beat Mother Mopar!!!!

  • @CarolinaFireman My dads got a 1966 chrysler new yorker 440ci mutha fucka its a beast 5k on motor and 2k on trans 400bhp and 412fp of torque FUCK YEAH MOPAR RULES!!!

  • nice ! i have a 91 dakota swb 4cyl 5spd and im doing the same thing to it this summer

  • Mopar man yous a joke! you couldant drvie your way out of a wet paper bag

  • i may not be able to but i would get out faster in my dakota the ur danger ranger!

  • Why would you be in the paper bag i the first place? ahah

  • lol

  • What kind of tranny do you have auto or 5 speed

  • i got a 92 dakota with 308000 miles on it and cranks up in 2 secs

  • Looks & sounds Great.

  • dude sweeet engine i have a 98 dakota with a 318 all original accdept the flowmasters and its got 182000 miles on it and she goes to a 120 pretty quick still drive like when i got it off the show room foor 10 years ago

  • i have a 1996 jeep with a 318 with 196,000 miles and it runs like it was the first day i bought it off the showroom floor

  • yea, check out my brother's dakota on my videos. Flowmaster 40 series custom exhaust.

just out of curiosity, you dont have your water pump belt hooked up, do you? if not, then you probably shouldnt be revving the piss out of that engine for as long as you were and not have any water running thru the block. hey, your engine tho. just my .02 cents...

  • runnin it that long wont hurt it. if the belt was hooked up hed be ever more sol all his shit would run out the motor. its a 318. they last without oil. a little missing antifreeze and overheating wont hurt

  • whatever you say bro. it isn't an aluminum block engine, its cast iron. he needs to have a radiator or a bucket of water with the hosed in it or some kind of makeshift cooling system. i would put money on that the engine temps in that short amount of time probably rose to over 215-220 degrees.

318s don't last very long w/o oil. my brother's LA series 318 spun a rod bearing when the factory oil pump shit the bed. it only took about 5 miles of driving w/a bad oil pump before it was too late.

  • u can go ahead and give me that money then. what year was the motor?

  • lol, ok its my truck, i built it along with my friend who posted this video for me a while back, there is another vid if you look under my videos. 73DrtSprt is right, it was a quick fire, the motor didn't come close to getting hot, i could grab the headers and rest my palm om the cylinder heads. just fyi... when you first start most cars, there is no circulation of coolant untill the thermostat opens. think of it that way,

  • Sweet sounding mill :)

  • ya lair po pire ton block .... what kind of headers you are on this block

  • Whoops, Auntyevil, I accidentally clicked on the "thumbs-down" button on your comment. Didn't mean it!

  • Were did you get the Heders?

  • My dad used to have a 1992 dodge dakota it came with a 318 magnum the things are power houses but he totaled it in the winter. So now I'm taking the motor out of it and putting it in a 2wd dakota his was 4wd

  • That sounds good, I'm still tryin to keep mine from backfiring!

  • Wow she sounds a little different then mine open headers...check out mine then

  • i have a 318 magnum they kick ass.

  • You sure that's a 318? Maybe just me but it doesnt sound very loud. We've got a 318 in a 72 Dart and a 96 Ram 1500 and sounds much louder and deeper.

  • here is another video of the same truck but it was taken with a diffrent camera.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwlWTxJFlro

  • Ah ok, my mistake, looks pretty good though. Keep up the work.
