That song went great in that Porsche 928 scene, when i was young my friend told me that the scene was also made with intention to advertise Porsche. But i really don't think so :)
I have shook the hand of the Master GeeTar player Jeff Beck This song is just a great song tough great beat when im cruising in my deuce roadster i just love the 4.30 to the end so dam cool and drumming too. When we are gone this song will live on in Hot Rodders 4 sure .

I heard this after a day of doing acid. It was near the end of this great trip and I gotta say it fit the mood. Incredible and so appropriete sond to come down to. But don't tell anyone ok......
when he is stealing his parents Porshe out of the garage..... the garage door opens to the pulsing bassline....then the door jams and the music stops...but Tom gets it working and the music starts again......The Pump-Jeff Beck
@scottslovegun I don't know why either. Even if Jeff Beck were to say he hated it, I'd still love it. I have Blow By Blow & Wired, & I still like this album better, though I think there's some sentimental reason & the drums are awesome too. Each song evokes emotions in me - it's not just technique. Not too many guitar instrumentals do that for me as a whole album.
If you were Mr. Beck, and had just enjoyed the huge successes of Blow By Blow, and Wired, you might think this was just "Schlocking it out". But I'm with you. Never, Never think any Jeff Beck is anything but good.
I am fortunate enough to have seen Mr. Beck perform on a number of occasions. The most memorable for me was the Bec, Vaughan tour. It was a religious experience. I saw Two Gods!
@MrBluesrules I was there too...UIC Pavillion..I was broke. Had just enough cash for tickets. A friend and I scraped our money together to get a few beers, stand in the concession line for 10 minutes, then find out they dont sell alcohol because its a college campus! The encore of Becks Going Down when SRV came back out was very memorable!
In his video, it's a shame JB introduces this tune by saying---u may remember this song from Risky Businss. Man, this tune & album is SO outrageous, who cares about the movie.
It's so difficult to do a memorable and simple sounding solo. Clapton could do it, and here I think we have the perfect demonstration. Restraint, musicality and inspiration. This is moving. A little piece of guitar magic.
This is one of my favourite desert island albums. I'm not even a big Beck fan or fan of instrumental music. EVERY SONG on this album is great, in perfect order. Thank God for older brothers.
Aiiii! Rss...Arrasa monstro! Um exemplo da fina flor do Rock Progressivo....Viagem essa música...Aliás é uma obra prima do Rock...Rock+Londres=ADORO!!
@quesondriac: What I thought was both clever and hilariously funny was "The Pump" was the song playing as the young man backs his dad's Porsche out of the garage for an illicit "spin." The son drops the clutch, kills the engine and this soundtrack song suddenly stops (it must have been on the sound system). Then he starts up the engine again and "The Pump" by Jeff Beck resumes!
Great song and album however I was shocked to see how bad his live playing is! He almost makes a mockery of his album when he plays it live. His tight band looks like they have terror in their eyes. They dont know what he is going to do next! And none of them want to say anything to him. They just hope for the best.
The man definitely makes love to that guitar... I actually got to meet him in Pittsburgh at the hotel he was staying at after his concert there. Bummer I was 8 mths pregnant & broke. Could off stayed and have a drink with him.. He did pat my bellytho! I had a son and he knows how to play some great guitar!! I accredit that to Jeffs magic touch!! ; ) Love to meet him again...
One of my faves. I've always loved playing (keys) in and out of grooves and exploring them more than any other aspect of jamming with good players. This song is as cool, fat, smooth and easy to play off as it gets!
Beck, one of the few rock (ok, it's Beck, PRIMARILY rock musicians) who has always understood the value of empty spaces in his playing. Thank God the soulless corporate/MTV bastards never got their hooks in him!
in what context was Page talking about Beck when he said this? IMO they are both bloody brilliant. Page has a slightly more straight forward approach but he still squeezes huge amounts of emotion into his riffs and solos, where as Beck is always surprising and very inventive to listen to, comes at the guitar from slightly strange direction, that's what makes him so unique.
One of my favourite Jeff Beck albums. Thanks for the upload. I needed to hear all of this today. =D
