  • One of my favourite Jeff Beck albums. Thanks for the upload. I needed to hear all of this today. =D

  • Oh yeahhh. The Pump. What a glorious Beck song.

  • Would have been a good song for the movie "Silent Running"!

  • @jehosh5577

I agree Joan's stuff fit but this would have been better for the topper when the dome that Lowell saved drifted off ..good insight bro

  • Listen to that opening: Don Henley, Dirty Laundry

  • love driving with this song playing

  • such a great song!

  • That song went great in that Porsche 928 scene, when i was young my friend told me that the scene was also made with intention to advertise Porsche. But i really don't think so :)

  • The best period for Beck Blow by Blow through There and Back. Between Hymas, Hammer and Walden he had an incredible line up!!

  • Tom Cruise is a fucktard ... Beck RAWKS.

  • supposedly tom cruise is a huge beck fan.he's also on soundtrack for days of thunder.

  • i have shook the hand of the Master GeeTar player Jeff Beck This song is just a great song tough great beat when im cruising in my deuce roadster i just love the 4.30 to the end so dam cool and drumming too. When we are gone this song will live on in Hot Rodders 4 sure .

  • ive always wondered what kind of pump beck meant. bicycle pump? "love pump"? balloon pump? "pump the gas"..........? lol

  • hipnótico como uma esmeralda

  • so powerful

  • I love his stuff, i just wish he'd done more albums back in the day

  • I heard this after a day of doing acid. It was near the end of this great trip and I gotta say it fit the mood. Incredible and so appropriete sond to come down to. But don't tell anyone ok......

  • am i retarded? cause i can't remember what scene in risky business this was. help me!

  • @ChewMovieMaka It's the scene when Tom Cruise takes his dad's Porsche out for a joy ride.

  • @ChewMovieMaka

when he is stealing his parents Porshe out of the garage..... the garage door opens to the pulsing bassline....then the door jams and the music stops...but Tom gets it working and the music starts again......The Pump-Jeff Beck

  • the scene in Risky Business when this track comes on.

  • amazing tune with amazing Simon Phillips on drums and Jeff Beck, man who defines the instrument

  • thats for sure!all my fav beck albums have great drummers on them.not sure why this album didnt sell a million copies like blow by blow or wired.

  • @scottslovegun I don't know why either. Even if Jeff Beck were to say he hated it, I'd still love it. I have Blow By Blow & Wired, & I still like this album better, though I think there's some sentimental reason & the drums are awesome too. Each song evokes emotions in me - it's not just technique. Not too many guitar instrumentals do that for me as a whole album.

  • @Grendelmonster8u

If you were Mr. Beck, and had just enjoyed the huge successes of Blow By Blow, and Wired, you might think this was just "Schlocking it out". But I'm with you. Never, Never think any Jeff Beck is anything but good.

I am fortunate enough to have seen Mr. Beck perform on a number of occasions. The most memorable for me was the Bec, Vaughan tour. It was a religious experience. I saw Two Gods!

  • @MrBluesrules I was there too...UIC Pavillion..I was broke. Had just enough cash for tickets. A friend and I scraped our money together to get a few beers, stand in the concession line for 10 minutes, then find out they dont sell alcohol because its a college campus! The encore of Becks Going Down when SRV came back out was very memorable!

  • In his video, it's a shame JB introduces this tune by saying---u may remember this song from Risky Businss. Man, this tune & album is SO outrageous, who cares about the movie.

  • You've got to hear his new CD "Emotion & Commotion" A true masterpiece!

I'm glad there is still one musician who remained true to himself and his art.

    Shine On Jeff Beck....

  • I remember when this album came out. I think I listened to it all day, every day for months.

  • NOU, I agree. BUT I HAVE to add Jerry Garcia to that list.

  • Both are on different sides of the spectrum, but I think Jeff and Allan Holdsworth are the two best electric guitarists on the planet.

  • AWESOME ALBUM. Every song is great. Very hard to do for an instrumental album. In my top 5.

  • love the part of risky business where its playing. the song stops momentarely when he stalls the porsche

  • @fyldths Yep - love that - and the fact the Tangerine scored the movie.

  • @fyldths Tangerine Dream that is.

  • @fyldths

agreed. one of the best cinematic uses of mr. beck ever. nice catch.

  • It's so difficult to do a memorable and simple sounding solo. Clapton could do it, and here I think we have the perfect demonstration. Restraint, musicality and inspiration. This is moving. A little piece of guitar magic.

  • jeff beck

taking the electric guitar to places only he could. i mean, who can fatefully mimic

    his style? few if any.

  • classic piece

  • This is one of my favourite desert island albums. I'm not even a big Beck fan or fan of instrumental music. EVERY SONG on this album is great, in perfect order. Thank God for older brothers.

  • How could you not upload Star Cycle???

    One of my favorite records...

    Thanks.

  • My favourite ever solo by him.

  • mine too.

  • Aiiii! Rss...Arrasa monstro!

  • I think I heard this (the Pump) in the Movie "Risky Business" Tom Cruise?

  • You did hear this in Risky Business.

  • @quesondriac: What I thought was both clever and hilariously funny was "The Pump" was the song playing as the young man backs his dad's Porsche out of the garage for an illicit "spin." The son drops the clutch, kills the engine and this soundtrack song suddenly stops (it must have been on the sound system). Then he starts up the engine again and "The Pump" by Jeff Beck resumes!

  • cara além disso só tocando guitarra mesmo

  • Great Guitarist...thanks 4 posting.

  • where can i get the tab for this

  • its not that hard to learn by ear..give it a shot, it'l make you a better player

  • é como um mistério profundo no fundo do mar realmente visceral.

  • faz a gente viajar p/ bem longe.grande som

  • really dig simon phillips' drums on this...

y'know he was really reining it in on this one but he still gets in some monster licks

    love ther&bac

never be able to decide who's numero drummer for el becko, cozy, simon, or nowadys vinny. 3 absolute masters of the drums/percussion.

  • Great song and album however I was shocked to see how bad his live playing is! He almost makes a mockery of his album when he plays it live. His tight band looks like they have terror in their eyes. They dont know what he is going to do next! And none of them want to say anything to him. They just hope for the best.

  • My favorite track from this CD, What a classic masterpiece!

  • I could just imagine an 80's porn flick right now.

  • That's hysterical!!

  • Great time for guitar instrumentals around this period (late seventies-1980)--one of the best here

  • The man definitely makes love to that guitar... I actually got to meet him in Pittsburgh at the hotel he was staying at after his concert there. Bummer I was 8 mths pregnant & broke. Could off stayed and have a drink with him.. He did pat my bellytho! I had a son and he knows how to play some great guitar!! I accredit that to Jeffs magic touch!! ; ) Love to meet him again...

  • bem, como diria oscar wilde o amor é p mistério maior do que a morte.

  • i missed that Stevie Ray V. and Jeff Beck tour. I was too goddamn cheap to buy the tkts.

    Smart move, dumbass

  • same here bud ...

    pennywise beck/srv foolish

    i was

hey we all make mistakes, right?

    thank jeevus for utoob

  • @septip123

saw opening night in mpls. one of the best shows i ever caught. terry bozzio was posessed by demons. brilliant thing to see.

  • Sometimes I think Les Pauls sound he heard in his head when he got the solid body electric going was ultimitly Jeff

  • Its all Strat on this tune though !

  • well, jeff beck is great...! *****

  • Wonderful...great album

  • Doghouse Dave recently gave me a DVD of beck at Ronnie Scotts with Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. Absolutely stunning

  • jeff becks the best we have...his playing knocks the opp into touch...

  • that it is .especially "behind the veil".Killer version

  • One of my faves. I've always loved playing (keys) in and out of grooves and exploring them more than any other aspect of jamming with good players. This song is as cool, fat, smooth and easy to play off as it gets!

Beck, one of the few rock (ok, it's Beck, PRIMARILY rock musicians) who has always understood the value of empty spaces in his playing. Thank God the soulless corporate/MTV bastards never got their hooks in him!

    Nice stuff...

  • page compared him to a synthesizer

  • "When he's on, Beck is probably the best there is." - Jimmy Page

    i wonder : when isn't beck on?

  • @gre1990 When he's asleep he's off

  • in what context was Page talking about Beck when he said this? IMO they are both bloody brilliant. Page has a slightly more straight forward approach but he still squeezes huge amounts of emotion into his riffs and solos, where as Beck is always surprising and very inventive to listen to, comes at the guitar from slightly strange direction, that's what makes him so unique.

  • Good groovy tune. Peace
