Yes these tests were actually conducted by a secret sience team from the japanese military in WWII. They wanted to test, and if possible find a cure, for frostbite. so they had POW's or civillians stand in the cold snowstorm outside the Unit 731 base with uncovered arms. and occasionaly japanese soldiers would throw ice cold water on the arms. Then when the skin and muscle tissue had died, they'd thaw the arms out to see what would happen. Look it up.

You kinda see where the flap starts, not to mention there's no muscle at all... the effects department goofed up big time. Otherwise, this would have been truly disturbing.
