  • Don't worry it'll buff it self out.

  • That's, what happens when you takeoff without full flaps. It appears he raised them as he started his roll.

  • A Spitfire as a carrier fighter?! Lol isn't that what the corsair is for ;)

  • @dannyboy768 thats a seafire

  • Dumb idea to use a Spitfire for carrier operations. The narrow track of its undercarriage caused it enough problems on land. It must have been murder trying to land one of these things on a pitching flight deck.

  • @pervertt They still made 'em for carriers. Seafires were used often, and they were hard to land from the looks of it here.

  • @moron6123 It is incredible to think that the Royal Navy did not have a credible fighter that was optimised for its carriers and had to modify land based fighters instead. Beats me as to why the RN did not seek studier American aircraft such as the Wildcat under the lend lease arrangements at the start of the war.

  • @pervertt Actually, they did. Corsairs and Hellcats were bought later on, and even Wildcats were purchased.

  • @moron6123 You're quite right. I now remember assembling a scale aircraft many years ago. It was a Hellcat with unusual RAF markings : )

  • @pervertt Yes, the Hellcats and Corsairs were the same, except designated with Hellcat Mark {number} or Corsair Mark {number}. Wildcats were known as Martlets.

  • oh gosh these brits and there pilots

  • DIE!!!!!

  • The British sure had an 'awkward' verbose, obtuse way with some of their capital ships' names, didn't they. "Indefatigable" .. Qua ??!! .. also try these on for size .. Indomitable .. Illustrious .. Unarguable .. Inestimable .. Inconquerable et al. Boy !!

  • @colindominy

You obviuosly did not study Latin at your shool!

  • my friends grandfather was an American pilot during wwII,he is very old - late 80s or 90s,only thing he says to me is "did you ever fly in the wings of glory" then he smiles. You can see he is very proud of his service. His mind is not the greatest at his age but what he remembers always is his service during WWII

  • lol proof that the spit is not rugged enough for carrier operations

  • Comments really do go off on some ridiculous tangents.

  • noobs

  • You have never flown in a plane and try landing one.

it hard enough to land one on a mile long runway.

yet alone, a 400ft long run way, where you have to try and see arrest wires that are next to impossible to see until you have already passed over it.

you are the noob for thinking such a idiotic thing

  • Pilot at 0.46 "Hmmm, Bit of an average landing... Oh well, time for tea!"

  • Get it right, thats not the spitfire, its the seafury, a modified version of the Spitfire, it was rushed in to service beacause no body, yanks included had a career based fighter that could match the japs fighters or the land based fighters of the luftwaffa at sea.

  • Get it right, that is the Seafire, which is the navalised version of the Spitfire. The Sea Fury is an entirely different aircraft altogether, a derivative from the Fury (itself a descendant from the Tempest and, before that, from the Typhoon).

  • Spitfire! Great land based fighter, but not ideal for carrier operations.

Narrow track undercarriage and a steeper angle needed for descent. Hence more accidents. Plus, inline engine not great for naval combat as it less damage resistant than a radial engine. One hit to the coolant system and you get your feet wet. A radial engine can take hits right through the pistons, and still get you home!! Hence why USN and IJN used them on all thier carrier based aircraft.

  • HE SUCKS

  • lol allied noobs, learn to fly like germans

  • good that the germans had no carriers :)

  • according to their naval plan they were going to build them by 1948, but it all got a bit out of hand, as you might know :P

  • until today they dont have any carriers...

  • i was reffering to nazi germany, my bad :P

and Scorpac you are from germany, why not say "we don't have any carriers" 0.o

  • on youtube the guys say "nazi" when they see a german one..^^ i dont like that

  • understandable

  • Oh, and I always thought that Nazis were Germans.. and they had full support of German nation till the last days of WW2..

  • not every german was nazi, a big part of german humans didnt support hitler.... and

  • Scorpac's right.

  • Yeah, uh-huh...all those people forced down the road to hell...yeah, right...then what you're saying then is that a majority of the German people were blind, deaf and dumb idiots. A majority of Germans may not have been Nazis, but they supported Hitler nonetheless by giving him the power he wanted and got destruction rained down on them just as they deserved.

  • if you didnt support hitler you got executed.... a lot of my family members were forced to support hitler... when you didnt do it while war a soldier could easily execute you saying "he was enemy"

the reason why so much people supported hitler before war is that they thought he will make really much work for the germans, a lot of them didnt have work.

if you would ask every single german who supported him before every single one would say "if i had known this, i wouldn't support hitler again"

  • @Scorpac that is truth.

  • @Scorpac well said mate, its about time you guys stood up amd answered back. and i fully understand what your saying here. well done.

  • @Scorpac to bad your a fucking idiot, and Germans were well informed of hitlers intentions before the war started... since the age of 20 he hated jews and publicly wanted them dead... fucking ignorant germans

  • @EngrishSongs sorry that i have to say this, but you are the most ignorant person i ever met on youtube. Inform yourself about things you say before you do so

  • @Scorpac u just said what i said, derp

  • @Scorpac Sorry, but I have yet to meet a German who admits to supporting the little house painter !!

I wonder who put him in to power & served him for the 12 year reich. Clive P

  • @pikru you dont wonder, you know it... if all the germans knew what he would do, they would never put him on power again... and every single german which is still alive, from world war 2 time, would say the same to you...

  • @Scorpac Of course for a lot of Germans were Jews.

  • @isocrate27 you mean "we are" or "were (the past)" ? but anyway, i cant entitle any of your words

  • @Scorpac where in there did they say nazi?

  • @Scorpac Yeah there were only three nazis in the entire German population.

  • @Scorpac yeah most of them were just soldiers serving to make money for the family in times of nastyness and following orders or they'd be killed

  • @Scorpac yeah, but they didn't do anything to stop him either. Remember the addage: Evil flourishes when good men do nothing!

  • @penumbra155 there were alot of tries and plans to assasinate him. unluckily they failed.

  • hitler and the waffen ss made the people to fight for berlin

  • bahahahah! i cant believe you've said that mate. 50% of the Luftwaffes casualties during WW2 were because of accidents.

  • thats how awfull allied AA was, lol!

  • LMAO

  • @ 0:12 WHOA! Stop that camera quick! lol

  • what's wrong at 0:12?

  • @ Mexacodium: where the plane looks like it's gonna fall right into the sea just before the camera cuts.

  • maybe bullets hit his plane damaging it. maybe he is so shook up from just being close to death

  • maybe he's a lousy pilot

  • you spelt jackass wrong

  • most of them crash land because of the engine in front making them unable to see the ship deck and having to guess there altitude, position and trying to stabilize in sea winds and moving (tides) ship. + if the plane got damage you have an extra drag to watch for

  • crapshoot

  • brave....

  • fail

  • maybe he came back with mechanic problems after a fight.

  • wow bad landing on 0:42

  • im sorry, i was drunk.

  • my grandad thought on this ship.

  • what did he think?

  • reply to 'Jovian84' ... i didnt know my grandad, but my dad told me stuff, and i know he didnt talk about it much, but what he did say was that he was on the guns at one point, and this was the first british ship to be kamakazied or something, but yeah, he never spoke about it much apparently.

  • id like to know what the net was made of, anyone wanna let me know?

  • Comment removed

  • great ffotage never seen rn carrier crash landing footage.

  • my grandad they used to literally throw the planes over the side of the carrier as soon as the pilot got back (if he got back) to make room for the next plane coming in! Must have been hardcore being one of those pilots.

  • good thing there was nets to stop the plane or other wise slid off the carrier and into the sea!

  • Crazy brits.

  • looks like someone is a bit jet lagged

  • some ruggard shit

  • lol funny vid

  • 0:40 Shit, lucky guy.

  • yay a crash wootnes! i love crashes!

  • haha that last guy booked pretty fast

  • lol

  • I would hate to be AIMD on that carrier...

  • First landing is a Firefly.

  • Looks like a hurricane to me. That last guy in the seafire though, lucky that windscreen is there... he nearly lost his head.

  • If you can walk away it was a "GOOD LANDING"

  • theres some world class landings there

  • Hell ya go spitfire, and seafire.

  • brought back old memories.I served on the Indefat. till the end of the war

  • is that an extinguisher system 0:45??

  • It looks like the radiator coolant escaping after a less than perfect landing. LOL

Those Seafires (Navalized Spitfires) were not the easiest to land anywhere, much less on a carrier.

  • was he a pilot, or served in the royal navy as a mid shipman

  • Err i'm not sure what he was exactly - wasnt a pilot but was on the indefatigable

is it true that those extra fuel tanks they fitted on seafires sometimes didnt' come off and they exploded the planes on landing...? if so then thats terrible

  • My granddad was on this shit when it happened!

  • i was off watch from the engine room and remember these crashes. We lost more landing on than we lost on operations
