Stony Brook dorms (Roth quad)

This is definitely one of my choices for SUNYs. However, i wonder if this school is good? I live in NYC so i know its close by which is a plus. How are the students? The professors ? Im thinking in majoring in nursing but it has not been 100% confirmed. im really curious about campus activities and how approachable and how big are the classes.

Stony Brook is a great college, but they could use a lot more professors that speak and write English properly. I have so many Chinese professors that speak very poor English and write it even worse.

I think ill be attending SBU next year as a freshman and I like the roth quad.

as a freshman, unfortunately you won't get to pick where you want to stay. furthermore, since you are freshman, most likely you'll be tripled too (unless you were lucky). but for the years after, you will.

@AmbushUnit It's a public university. Overpopulation on the campus, too many students in the classrooms, the influx of new freshmen every semester. The population of Stony Brook just keeps getting larger and larger every year. Basically, there's more people coming in than leaving. At the rate things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if the folks at campus housing soon try to fit 4 people into a single dorm.

I'm so glad that I have only one and a half years left at this place.

you don't need to be a senior. and also there are other kinds of suites on campus. kelly quad and tabler are also suite style. they have the living area and bathroom inside the suite but all of the rooms are positioned differently and don't have acs.

it costs the same as reg dorming

there are alot of students in general and the campus is pretty diverse. so yes there is a large black community. but it's not significantly larger than any other community that's there.

the koreans ALWAYS stick to themselves. whether they're new immigrants or american born. other asian immigrants also tend to stick to themselves

so very true, but i find that they, like myself, make lots of friends outside the korean community :P too. that way we function as members of the great melting pot that is america XD

nah its just cuz a lotta koreans have the same taste and stuff, but we like to make friends outside, at least the koreans i know do.

hahah. i think you'll like hendrix alot. i know i did. i loved the location, its extremely convenient. i'm not a fan of the RHD in hendrix though, i won't say more than that. and if you meet an RA named zaid, don't be afraid to talk to him, he's pretty awesome

I toured roth quad and only saw a suite-style. But, I also got to take a peek into a WISE girl's corridor-style in which the room was slightly bigger. I would forfeit the bathroom and living room for a slightly bigger dorm room. I always though a suite-style would be better though, but it was tiny tiny and yours looks like it too. I grew up never sharing a room, I don't think I can handle living in a room like yours... it's like the size of my bathroom, LOL.

roth quad is a generally quiet quad, which is always nice. other than that they aren't much different from the dormers anywhere else on campus.
