  • I hate our generation, though I do enjoy good R&B music every now and then, the oldies is where I would like to be <3 Oh all those amazing Soul and Jazz clubs, what I would give to spend a night in New York in the 50s~!

  • Awesome Jimmy Woode! :o)

  • 5:00

  • its funny the difference between rock and jazz bass. Rock you just play roots and maybe a 5th or two, but in jazz you have to really know what your doing.

  • You can't beat a good trumpet sound over an electric guitar solo. It gives me one of those natural 'drug free' highs. It's good to hear the original by the way!

  • Harry Edison composed this tune.

  • I think the bass player is Jimmy Woode

  • Bass player is Jimmy Woode

  • Does anyone know who recorded the version of "Centerpiece" that was the theme

for the Joe Adams radio show in the late 50's?

  • WHY DOES THIS NOT HAVE A MILLION VIEWS!

  • @Johnoooh good question, friend...

  • @Johnoooh It was on youtube before the giggle brothers bought it. I loved it and suddenly it was gone (like Gerry Muligans prelude in e minor, Chopin), citing

royalty difficulties, but thanks to bob erwig, the canadian cornettists, its back. Its a brilliant blues.

  • This is just awesome. Thank you so much for posting!

  • Thanks for this video! I knew Sweets and Jimmy pretty good and had the pleasure to play this tune with Sweets for some years. Today I even call one of my bands "Centerpiece" :-)) This is just great music.

  • Terrific! Jimmy does sound good here, doesn't he? Can't beat them gut strings!

  • Thank you Erwig for ressurecting this masterpiece.

  • Sublime. Ahhhhhhhhhh..

And yes, the bassist is Jimmy Woode, whom I believe outlived all these other cats, playing almost up to his death just a few years ago.

  • Can the bassist be ex-Ellington Jimmy Woode? He lived in Europe in the 60s.

  • I love it and especially the drumming of Jo Jones.

  • @heinbanjo12 and his head movements
