I hate our generation, though I do enjoy good R&B music every now and then, the oldies is where I would like to be <3 Oh all those amazing Soul and Jazz clubs, what I would give to spend a night in New York in the 50s~!
its funny the difference between rock and jazz bass. Rock you just play roots and maybe a 5th or two, but in jazz you have to really know what your doing.
You can't beat a good trumpet sound over an electric guitar solo. It gives me one of those natural 'drug free' highs. It's good to hear the original by the way!
@Johnoooh It was on youtube before the giggle brothers bought it. I loved it and suddenly it was gone (like Gerry Muligans prelude in e minor, Chopin), citing
royalty difficulties, but thanks to bob erwig, the canadian cornettists, its back. Its a brilliant blues.
Thanks for this video! I knew Sweets and Jimmy pretty good and had the pleasure to play this tune with Sweets for some years. Today I even call one of my bands "Centerpiece" :-)) This is just great music.

Does anyone know who recorded the version of "Centerpiece" that was the theme
for the Joe Adams radio show in the late 50's?

Sublime. Ahhhhhhhhhh..
And yes, the bassist is Jimmy Woode, whom I believe outlived all these other cats, playing almost up to his death just a few years ago.

Can the bassist be ex-Ellington Jimmy Woode? He lived in Europe in the 60s.
