Tibet is part of China, agreed on by all major governments, even Dai Lai himself. Historically it is, or maybe you can argue it is not 100%. It is a de-facto part of China, just like Hawaii is for the US. So it is useless to further argue on that point. People in one country can be different, or totally different, that's not a reason for independence that Dai Lai La Ma, China, US and all european contries are against.

There gonna be more than 1 billion people watch the game. Who care if some one said they won't watch it? I was there that day. I saw a lot of angry young white people who even couldn't point where was Tibet on China map. They probably just use tibet as an excuse for their own twisted live even they all wore made-in-china clothes/shoes/bags.

Whether you like it or not, China's rising is an indisputable and unpleasant fact for some people, especially the existing world power who designed the current world order where some people live in safe, secure and luxury life while others work hard and live in poor conditions. Resources are limited. China's rising means a new rival to them. The only thing they can do is to provoke ethnic tensions in China and break China apart without using any military forces.

Who owns which part of the world, in most cases, is for historical reasons, and you can find that all over the world. Each and every country is defending their right for that matter. I agree Tibetans deserve better treatment, just like all other Chinese deserve the same from their gvnt. But to use Olympics as a venue, to court anti-Chinese Westerners like homeless "pets", to stimulate the Chinese government with violence, will not bring better results for Tibetans, and is even IMHO disgusting.

The Olympic Torch in San Francisco's entire route had to be aborted, because of the massive protests.
Instead, only short run down Van Ness, then even with a huge military police presence, they could no longer continue. THE TORCH HAD TO BE TAKEN BY BOAT, to get out, in middle of procession.

The 1989 Tiananmen Sq event was very unfortunate, and I saw it with my own eyes. But looking back, Chinese people would have been much worse off if the CIA-backed student movement succeed. There would not have beenthe huge economic success that has vastly lifted the standard of living of the vast majority of Chinese people. Again, democracy, without substance, is meaningless, and that's not what Chinese people want.

Chinese know what's good for them--don't tell they need this and that right. Democracy must have substances, if you are poor and weak, you will have no dignity, be bullied, invaded. This and that right, or democracy itself, won't necessarily bring good life to people--Chinese know that well don't need other people to tell them what to do. When I was in China, I used to think Western media are more fare, but after living these years in America, I found Western media is no better at all. Most Americans are bombasted by the media of pick-and-choose, or even worse, TV programs showing cops beating monks in another country and telling the audience that this was happening in Tibet. U.S/U.N/NATO is the true evil empire. China is a workers state which brought Tibet into 20th century, liberating the Tibetan people from the slave system of the Lamas. It has been explicitly stated that they want to eradicate Tibetan dissidents, falun gong and any other groups who have the courage and dignity to stand up against this bloody regime, before the Olympics.
