I'm not a fan of Locomotives, I'm more of an aircraft fanatic than anything, but you really do have to appreciate some of that engineering! Beautiful to an extent!
I wish I was born 70 years earlier just to experience the 40s!
Maybe I wouldn't experience much being 18, but atleast I'd experience an age without the influence of technology.
Nice video, the Spitfire did it for me though lol.
Yer, Im more of an air show fan too, but work commitements have meant Ive missed every single show this year - except Waddington, but after last years traffic debacle there - I aint going back to Waddo! So Im filling my time with other things from the past...
I've only ever been to the Waddington, Woodford and Leuchars airshows, but a couple of times at that. On top of that I've been to the Duxford and Yeovilton air museums, plus a few in different countries.
I enjoy seeing engineering like this though, especially in mills too.
Yes, I try to at least get to Flying Legends at Duxford, did Lowestoft sea front show last year, that was great. Also like smaller shows like Old Warden and Little Gransden. The engineering in these locos is supreme - to think that City Of Truro broke 100mph in 1904!
It's pretty extraordinary that man-built machines were exceeding speeds at that time, not long after leaving behind horse and carriage as the orthodox means of travel.
But any Fred Dibnah style documentary catches my interest straight away, too many people are ignorant about these kind of things and get sucked in by mainstream interests such as celebrity lifestyles and other meaningless things.
That last sentence is a sad, but true fact. Thats what made this event even better - the fact that it was so well attended, it restored my faith in people a bit.
Excellent video, looks like you had a great weekend.

People aren't educated well enough on things, that's why.
Some people don't even know what the Battle of Britain is, which I can't understand.
