the drummer is doing a good job trying to hold the beat to a complex temple of the dilla sound...from my understanding is that the drummer must keep the same temple and the bass and other surrounding instruments drag beehind the beat...you have to be disciplined as a drummer to not "fix" it by eiher speeding up or slowing down...thats crazy.

Yeah Dilla was notorious for that lazy style drums. It adds so much character and flavor to the music. Me being a drummer I can relate to the complexity of staying off beat, but at the same time keeping tempo. Kind of an oxymoron haha.
