i truly believe that people, like the band aboard the titanic-people who know the only outcome is death- the band members who stayed to play music to try and comfort those terrified people-when someone dies for the love of a total stranger-i believe that God pardons all their past mistakes and sins- and they live in peace for eternity
Ever since I was a little kid, the Titanic has always amazed me... her beauty and her (to say the least) extremely tragic story... I think we all should give the crew, the passengers and last but not least, the RMS Titanic one giant salute!
Let us never forget what happened that night, on April 15th 1912. 2 hours and 40 minutes which were living hell for 1500 souls before they finally passed away in the ice cold North Atlantic water.
@zeb1912 While it is true that it's real name is 'Eternal Father, Strong to Save', this hymn is known by various names, including 'Those in Peril on the Sea', 'The Navy Hymn' and others. Would it be too much for you to simply listen to this and enjoy it, instead of arguing about it's name...? :)
actually, they didnt. It was a deliberate mistake in the film. This hymn wasn't actually written until 1929. Another one of JAmes Horner's mistakes was Second Officer William Murdoch's shooting himself.
firstly, James Horner was just the composer so if anyone made a mistake in the historical facts it was James CAMERON. And no one knows for sure who was shot and who committed suicide so the film, while disrespectfull to Murdoch, is not necessarily wrong.
Secondly, Some survivors such as Lawrence Beesly said that they remember the hymn "for those in peril on the sea" being sung on the afternoon of Sunday April 14th.
Please do get your facts straight before you claim someone else is wrong.
Whoops. I did know that JAmes CAmeron was the director, and James Horner was the composer, I barely noticed what I was writing, so for that, I apologise. Eternal Father was written in 1860. I was surprised to learn this, as my history teacher told us about that mistake, saying that the hymn hadn't been written until years after Titanic. But, in my defence, it WAS an anachronism. The version sung in the movie is the 1940 Protestant Episcopal version, which was not yet written at that time.
k i'll buy that. a lot of things with titanic have been very exaggerated and the "legend" has taken on a life of its own which is sometimes very far from the truth. The fact that this hymn was sang on the 14th only became relevant after the disaster and like u say it wasnt the hymn played in this vid. the hymn sang on titanic probably only had the line "for those in peril on the sea".
it wasnt a mistake that murdoch shot himself, one of the officers did commit suicide during the sinking they just dont know who and they wanted to show that one of them did shoot themselves in the movie, they just picked one of the officers that went down with the ship and the happened to pick murdoch
On Sunday, 14th of April, Captain Smith took time away from his bridge duty, possibly a mistake, to lead the first class congregation in the first class dining saloon. I don't belive we're sure as to the hymn that was sung there. However Reginald Baker (Her assistant purser) held a Church of England service in the Second Class dining saloon. Eva Heart remembers the hymn sung in second class- "O God Our Help in Ages Past." There may be testimony that Smith led them in Eternal Father; Im not sure.

@irishoorah Yes, it says quite a lot about their character as well. So often, folks are so focused on themselves.

recently a ferry sank in the Phillipines I think back in 07' or 08 that killed about 1100 people almost as many as Titanic.

almight father strong to save
whose arm doth bind the restless wave
who bids the mighty ocean deep
its own appointed limits keep
o savior whose almighty word
the winds and waves submissive heard
who walked upon the foaming deep
and calm amidst its rage did sleep
hear us as we call to thee
for those in peril on the seas
