@ZoKtorR Gotta news flash for you...just because your meat comes in a styrofoam container wrapped in plastic doesn't mean something didn't die. 100 years ago EVERYBODY killed their own meat in America, still a common practice in many parts of the world today. One day the grocery store will be filled with empty shelves & broken glass. As you slowly starve to death, we hunters will still be enjoying our barbecue. Don't pretend you're better just because somebody else kills your meat.
Actually, I've put a 350 grain carbon arrow thru an elks shoulder blade at 45 yards with a 70lb 82nd airborn. It then double lunged him and stuck 24" out the other side.
awesome hunt!! congrats..hey guys..whats the best broad head for hunting these elk..im going on my first Archery elk hunt in september..im shootin a bowtech tribute 70 lbs, 28 inch draw..aprox 298 fps with gold tip arrows and 75 grain tips. i am gonnna bump up to a 100 grain head. i was wondering if anyone had any adivice..i have read alot a bout cut on contact heads and 2 blade verse 3 ... any adiive would be appeciated! thanks guys
@magedon44 i know this may be late, but it really depends on your bow poundage. if you are going with a lighter bow, go with a 2 blade. more penetration and less kinetic energy to go to waste. if your shooting a stronger bow then feel free to go with a 3 blade version. my personal preference is "RAGE" mechanical broad heads.
Also you never just walk up to and elk and start screwing with the antlers, you have to make sure 100% that it is dead becuse they can stop breathing and look dead but once you touch them they can spring back to life and those antlers will be in your face or gut and then your in trouble
you guys are idiots lol that elk could have taken off and ran for miles the second they jumped up to celibrate and thats risky being out in the open like that, contrary to what most belive elk have good eyesight and that hunter is lucky the elk didnt notice him draw that arrow
thats risky being out in the open like that, contrary to what most belive elk have good eyesight and that hunter is lucky the elk didnt notice him draw that arrow
Whats a clean shot. Hunting with a bow has always been my fav. I have seen them drop dead in their tracks. I have also seen bad shots from rifle hunters. I am not sure why anyone would try to exclude someone from their personal right to choose their own weapon of hunting. Sounds like a dumb ass.
you dont aim for the hear and lungs with a bow, the arrow will not go through the sholder so you aim back and try to hit artteries and stuff, it takes them a good 15 min to bleed out ussaly and if you get up or make a noise in those 15-30-60 min that deer/elk can get up and run for miles, i know this beacuse my cuzin bow hunts and hes had to chase deer and elk down for a long time after they have been hit with arrows
I am well aware that you should not aim for the HEAR. but the the contrary you are aiming for a double lung and heart shot dipshit. as it turns out the ARTERIES you speak of happen to be in the heart area. And I am aware that the goal is to USUALY bleed the animal into the lungs. And since your COUSIN is the bow hunter perhaps you should STFU about a subject you know nothing about. My Diamond would and has made short work of an elk SHOULDER BTW learn to spell.

id like to see one of your arrows go through the shoulder of an elk, you aim only at the shoulder when useing a rifle, aim a little to the rear of the shoulder to hit the vital area but again NO ARROW WILL PENITRATE AN ELKS SHOULDER! my cousin knows what he is talking about and i talk to him about this yesterday, how long have you been hunting? my cuzin has been bow hunting from age 12 and rifle hunting sence about 8, hunting is a huge part of my family and we know what we are doing
@12jason223 Wrong, The shoulder only covers the front of the lungs, and a portion of the heart. His vitals extend all the way back to about 2/3 of his ribcage. If he's slightly quartered away and you stick an arrow about 1/3 of the way up from his belly live and right behind the shoulder you have a double lung and heart shot.
@12jason223 Yes, but even broadside, you can put an arrow an entire foot behind the shoulder and catch the back of both lungs. And it actually is possible to penetrate the shoulder with an arrow, but you have to be shooting an extremely heavy set bow, probably 80+ pounds, with really heavy arrows, and you could probably only get away with that if they were aluminum, carbon is just too light.
Dude, that elk had nooooo clue. When he stopped and turned around to look he had no clue, by the time he went to walk off his lungs were full of blood and u can see his world start to trun and his head drops. Thats about as human as u can get: Gun, bow, electric chair or lethal injection.
I understand your reaction regarding the pain an animal feels when being shot by an arrow. I used to feel the same way. Now that I have killed dozens of animals with a gun and dozens with a bow my mind has changed. Whether you are gun or bow hunting, shot placement is critical. I have seen animals, more than 20 elk included, die using both weapons. Most times the shot was taken from a hidden shooter with a fairly quiet bow. In those cases the animal appeared to have no idea what happened.
They briefly jump due to the noise, but then settle down and walk away confused. After a few moments they essentially run out of blood to the brain and pass out, dying on their feet. Just like this bull, they seem to have experienced little to no pain, just about the same pain I feel when I accidentally cut myself on one of these surgically sharpened broadheads ... NONE. I have seen a bull take an arrow, then stop to a cow call, turn around and respond to it.
On the way in he fell flat on his face. That would never happen with a rifle shot. Although the rifle may have the power to immediately knock down an animal and end things quickly, it happens quite rarely with elk. The only time I've seen that was in a few videos and I am fairly sure they were spine shots.
Reagrdless, we all love this sport and support each others right to choose the method that suits you best. Please choose your shots wisely no matter what weapon is in your hand. We owe it to each other and to the animals we pursue and respect.
And Sn4pShoter, hunters using rifles get criticized by the antis for not giving game a fair chance. I don't think that elk felt any pain. Surprise for 38 seconds and then it's over. Seems a perfect kill to me. What's painful is breaking or twisting a leg.
EXCELLENT!!! I live in north/central Tennessee and they are working on repopulating the elk here.if i'm not mistaken 2008 was the first hunts available(very very few permits),i'm thinking it was just like 25 elk available to harvest.there are a few farms around here that the farmers i guess help with the release program by keeping elk in there fields(with very high fences)until they are ready for release.I can't wait till i take a big bad bull with a bow,i'm ready for something bigger thana deer
Amazing!!!! what a great hunting congrats men, how far do you shot him? I'm a beginer but hopely someday I get a bull like yours, and again congratulations!!
